Are we upgrading or nah?

I'm still on the fence about the Note 20. Those who have not already done pre-ordering, do you plan to upgrade or are you gonna stick with the Note10 for now? The price for the Ultra gives me anxiety. That alone may keep me from upgrading. I'd like to see what promos the carriers come up with. Will there be any freebies? Any decent discounts? Hopefully Best Buy will get a demo soon so I can see it in person. Maybe that will help me make up my mind.

I decided about 2 months ago that I wasn't upgrading and would keep my Note 10 Plus. The Note 20 Ultra is finally out and............. my decision stands.

Wait so 256GB isn’t standard everywhere?

Seems us in UK seemed to have got a good deal with 256GB for starting price of £1,179
I was hoping for a 4g Ultra to be honest, it would have been £100 cheaper and I've no need for 5g but whatever, doesn't seem a bad deal.

I decided this too and when I decide, I should not go on any forums or watch any YouTube. I now have a Mystic White Galaxy Note 20 Ultra on the way, I got no will power!

if it would have been a 256 on the base model I probably would have told the trainer but considering it's 128 and all the uncertainty i think i may stay put. I love the fact that Samsung gives us great trade-in value on old devices. but. if I want to upgrade I feel there are other options out there at the same price point even after a trade in,

Well, it's pretty much a free upgrade with a pair of free Beans thrown in on top for me, so why not :-)

How is it a free upgrade?

I've seen lots of different promos & upgrades mentioned so I'm confused.

Sorry, free in the sense that I'm due a discounted upgrade through my carrier, I should get the Ultra 512gb for 549-649 quid and I'll easily sell my Note 10 plus 5G for the same money.
Then there the promo Beans on top.
It obviously includes entering a new contract.

Nah.

There's not enough new to make me want the new model. The price of the Note 20 Ultra 512Gb model isn't as bad as I was expecting, but there's no trade in option for my Note 10+ 5G 512Gb so I'll just stick with that.

I will also be sticking with my Tab S6, Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Watch, none of this years models offer enough of an upgrade to prise my wallet open when last years models still work for me.

I'm also possibly sticking with my Note 10 Plus 5g. Was going to watch the Samsung unpacked but a friend told me it wasn't worth watching 3 hours (gosh that must be a record for Samsung) just stick to highlights.

Just been reading over last hour and nothing sticks out to wow me over.

What instead has interested me is that Samsung is finally going to allow 3 years of OS updates (this seriously needs a separate post). Its a big thing that not only we get Android 11 and 12 starting from s10 and Note 10 series but we should get most of the ONE UI features possibly well into version 4.0 and beyond.

Erm the Unpacked event lasted 90 minutes

Here in the UK we had a pre order gift, and a choice at that!
I have purchased the the Note 20 Ultra only because of the gift, because it's as rare as hens teeth around these parts!
:D

I wasn't going to upgrade, but now I'm thinking about it. I think that reducing the storage by half was an abysmal decistion, but... I'm only using 68 of 256GB on my Note 10 and I've never been thrilled with the battery life of this smaller Note 10. The fact that the Note 20 has a 4300mAh battery instead of the 3500mAh battery seems compelling to me. I also like the idea of the new earbuds, just because I hate the in-ear ones. I've yet to find one that is comfortable or that doesn't fall out of my ears. I also spent almost nothing on the Note 10 that I own because of Microsoft Store promos in January.

But it was so boring and bland that it felt like 3 hours :-(

It's basically a lockdown unpacked video and they could have made more of an effort for sure.
For me they left out a lot of detail for the main attraction, The Note flagship!
Yes the Galaxy Fold and Buds live and Tab S7, Watch 3 were in there but the Note series is supposed to be top dog and deserves more air time.
The gig was just not exciting.

I hadn't seen anything about this, but that sounds great.

I’d like to upgrade from my Note 10+ but no 5G in my city yet and I still get the “wow your Samsung takes such good pictures” lol.

Might stick it out until the next iteration. Still love the S Pen though.

Putting that into perspective and looking at the update support since the s7 that means that Samsung will have:

3 major OS updates.
3 years of monthly security patches.
4th year of quarterly security patches.

That beats the like of Oneplus who give:

3 major OS updates
3 years of bi monthly security patches.

And even Googles pixel devices who have:

3 major OS updates
3 years of monthly security patches.

About time from the major OEM of Android.

This applies to flagships not sure about the mid rangers 🤔.

Not far off Apples 5 years of iOS updates.

Potentially that means my Galaxy Note 10 plus will receive updates into 2022 👍😊

Probably get the note 20 ultra. If I would not have broken my s20 ultra, I don't think I would have. It definitely was a blah unpacked.

So do you get the same promos through your carrier that Samsung is offering?
