Are you still impressed with the 3d or is it time for another device

Not bashing just stating an opinion, like everyone else buddy. It's seems like we have a lot of people trying to bash the 3D and it hasn't even been released yet. Funny how most of the bashing comes from people that just bought the Nexus Hmmmmm, I guess if I bought a phone with 1 year old hardware I'd be pissed too :(

Better than a brand new phone already running outdated software no? The hardware in the 3D wont even be relevant until it gets ICS and apps are written to take advantage of the 2nd core and that wont be till next year anyways. By then, it will be running a year old version of Android :'(

6 month old hardware... ;) The Nexus S is still the official Google device and the Hummingbird was specifically optimized for GB. If you see side by sides, the UI is just as smooth as say the EVO 3D, GS2 or any dual-core phone. Plus the Hummingbird has a fine GPU that still plays everything Android has to offer.

At least software can be updated ota, cant update hardware without buying a new phone. I'd rather have the hardware upgrade, yeah it might take longer but at least my hardware will be able to keep up :P
Off topic are you on focusfanatics forum?

Good point there! Well I guess if my Nexus S doesnt run ICS smoothly when it comes out, I will have an excuse to buy a new phone! Yes I am on FF, havent posted there forever though and I have a different screen name.

I am using the nexus right now. Although it is snappy, it does lag sometimes, when opening some apps. There is a good 3-5sec lag when opening the browser if the last page I was on was like a large page, such as phandroid or droid-life. It kinda makes me mad so I have to make sure I close the window before I close the browser. I like the phone but it does give me lag sometimes when I am switching between email in the gmail app. Nexus S is not as lag free as people make it out to be, it is a snappy phone but it will start lagging randomly sometimes.

Right on! Yeah honestly I'm still not a hundred percent sold but I definitely need to try it myself. I am still debating with this and the GSII, but I think I solved it. I convinced my girl to get the GSII (her upgrade is up in September) and I'll get the the 3d. If I like hers I'll just take it:)

Thats odd. I just went to Phandroid, let it load, clicked home and then opened the browser again and it loaded right up like I never left it. Maybe you had opened other apps and the browser wasnt in your recently used so it got kicked out or closed I should say. Then of course it will take a few seconds to restart itself. If your browser was sitting there open, would suck up your battery.

Great idea! Wish I could do that and have both phones around.

I have an 05 ZX3 with the FSWerks Stage 2 turbo kit plus a bunch of other goodies.

After a day with the 3D, everybody at my work has headaches. Seeing that I'm the "Android Guy" at my work I was told to run it through it's paces and am now bordering a migraine. I don't have this problem with a 3DS or 3D movies. This leads me to think that the 3D feature will go mostly unused.

Yeah I got her to do that last year with the epic and Evo! I stuck with the Evo I just did not like touchwiz, I got lucky that she really wanted a physical keyboard.

Nice! (on the focus) want to go turbo soooo bad! You in California?

It is disappointing to see how many reviews are kind of bashing the EVO 3D. But I am definitely not buying it for the 3D feature so I am not mad if that aspect of it sucks. But I am sure it will be a great device regardless, everyone says it is super fast and smooth, and honestly that is all I am concerned about.

I bought the Nexus S 4G about 2 weeks ago. Love the screen, how smooth the phone is, and the pure google experience, but unfortunately the signal and radio issues are forcing me to give it up. I just hope the new EVO is not a major disappointment , because unfortunately I am stuck since I already upgraded to the Nexus..

The call quality issue makes no sense.

Think about it. The EVO 3D has all the latest and best hardware in it. Why on earth would call quality be bad? Dual Core CPU and tons of ram and it can't make phone calls?

I'll have to see for myself.

P.S., Any weaknesses will likely be easily solved with a new kernel (assuming they unlock the bootloader). Like I said, the hardware rocks so any poor performance must be software related.

I wouldn't call the screen inferior,
granted it doesn't have those over saturated cartoony looking colors that the "superamoled" screen offers. Not to mention all the screen issues they're having (banding, yellow tint etc..) Better resolution is definitely a plus especially while reading text. So inferior.....depends on who you ask and preference.

I hate the super amoled screens. Cartoonish colors is a perfect description. I feel like I'm using a kid's toy when i use a phone that has that oversaturated screen.

I got the Evo couple month back and liked it a lot but I knew that new stuuf was on its way so I took it back on day 30 and activated my wife's old Katana...It has suuuuuuucked not having a smart phone. I was going to get the Nexus S but figured the 3D was coming soon so I'd wait it out. I think the Super Amoled's are nice, love the deep blacks. I also think a vanilla google phone would be cool. The reviews for the 3D have me concerned. I will probably try before I buy. Honestly would probably prefer SGS2 but I can only wait so long. I'm sure the Evo 3D will be nothing less than good. Does anyone know if I can return the 3D if I don't like it, if I returned a phone back in March? I may be reconsidering the Nexus......hummm dang decisions.

The Hypewagon

I want to just blindly buy this phone and not listen to what other people say or think. But that's the EXACT reason I find myself wanting this phone in the first place. I read about how the dual core experience improves performance and battery life and how 1080p video looks crisp and mostly eliminates the need for a Flip or a Bloggie type device. But if this phone really has issues staying connected to 4G (really, how could we be a year in and HTC and Sprint throw out a clunker that can't hold a connection?? Seems hard to believe, but I'm watching that one quite closely.) and the camera doesn't have 1080p recording and the 2d camera is indeed of a lower quality than the original Evo's camera, why SHOULD I buy it? Who would've thought all those claims of the original Evo being future proofed weren't all that far from being true?

720p vs 1080p. It's a phone afterall. The quality will still suck compared to a videocam. Who says 4g doesn't stay connected, seriuosly one reviewer with bad coverage in his area. Is it a bad thing a Phone switches to 3g when there is a 4g dead spot?

AFAIK The Sensation's the only phone doing 1080p recording right now, and several reviews noted that it was jittery and dropped frames during fast motion (even under ample daylight)... Most of the other upcoming phones aren't doing 1080p either (i.e. SGS2, Photon, etc.). Personally, I'd rather have a smooth 720p than a jittery 1080p any day.

The EVO 4G's 720p recording wasn't the best so if they've improved it but dropped 1080p as a compromise I'll take it. It was just a bad PR move on Sprint/HTC's part to advertise 1080p and then drop it at the last minute tho (and if it was a PR mistake from the start, that's an even worse blunder).

As far as screen resolution... Nothing (or almost nothing) is stretched under qHD, this isn't like the iPad2 at all. Android API's were actually written with multiple resolutions in mind from the start, properly written apps (and the entirety of the OS) is just scaled accordingly. We've had odd-ball resolutions from the start, early Android devices weren't running 800x480, and Moto's often been doing a wider 854x480 with most of their devices.

Have you heard anyone complain that things look stretched on a Droid? Every one of those Moto devices (Droid, Droid 2, Droid X) runs at the same exact aspect ratio as any newer qHD device.

800/480 = 1.66 | 854/480 = 1.779 | 960/540 = 1.777 | 1920/1080 = 1.77
