Ask Phil about the EVO 3D

Thats a good question, the voice quality compared to the OG evo

That would be a good comparison. All these other reviews are so across the board that I'm not sure if anyone actually used the phone for more than 5 minutes.
Since I've actually played with the phone, seen the screen, felt it in my hands, and could care less about the 3D feature, I'm still buying mine next week.

Didn't AndroidCentral have a news story where an update to fix Netflix was being released next week?

PPI is stupid marketing says who? Who wants to see blocks in their text? Is HD a marketing gimmick when compared to TVs of old and the fact that you can see so much more detail now? Why do you think E-ink is so popular on e-reading devices like the Kindle? Clarity -that?s why. Keep the neon colors and give me sharpness and clarity - oh and btw give me natural and realistic colors too. I will never buy an I phone (knocks on wooden desk) but the Iphone-4 has by far the best screen I have ever seen on a mobile device - and it?s not even close. I dream about having a 4.3 screen with that level of detail and clarity. I am not the least bit concerned about trying to read anything in sunlight as that almost never happens except to dial a number and I can see perfectly well.

Exactly you're right for sure PPI is not stupid I have an iPhone 4 and the crispness of the text and extremely high resolution is the only thing I love about this phone It is amazing to have it so to say that PPI doesn't matter is just false. I would take PPI over viewing angles any day who views their phones from extreme angles anyways. I'm glad that the qhd on the evo3d is very similar to the iPhone 4's density of pixels and I can't wait to get rid of my **** iPhone for it. :D

I've seen some confusion about if the screen can do 3d in portrait or not. Common consensus was no. I saw a comparison to the LG 3d phone that states the 3vo does indeed do portrait 3d but the LG does not. Can this be confirmed on the 3vo?

evo 3d does not support 3d recording in portrait. Check out the Engadget review.

It doesn't work. Tried it personally at Google I/O.
That chart was assembled by someone with no clue what the contents of the chart actually meant.

Yeah I think I saw your original info about that. So I was shocked that they listed this as a feature for the 3vo and LG would actually comment about it. Here is the link:

Could it be that the screen is capable but software doesn't allow it? Seems unlikely.

So what happens when you have a 3d photo showing and you rotate to portrait? Does it stay locked?

The tech behind the display won't allow it. The fact that the LG person didn't comment in that fashion tells me they're a marketing monkey and not a technical person.

As for the rotating to portrait, if I remember correctly, it displays a text dialog telling you to rotate the phone to landscape.

EVO 3D does have 3D-TV out.

It also says 3D images are 2.0MP?

How Passive 3D works (that is glasses free, movie theater, and lg cinema) is each eye is getting half of the pixels to each eye, then the brain puts them in together and it is lesser quality. so technically if you are viewing 3d on a pasive display it is technically 2.5MP you see...but if you see the image on a active display (panasonic, samsung, nvidia...prettymuch with expensive glasses) you get the full 5MP to each eye. so technically it is 5 on active 2.5 on passive. (i honestly think they should work on holographic technology, not brain hurting 3d)

Thanks! Learn something new every day.

Finally got ours. Have questions? Ask away! I'll be in an out of this thread all day.
I would like to know your opinion of Evo 3D sound and performance of the battery :)

I wish. Sadly, the 3D boom is due to movie studios and then TV makers trying to regain sales by creating a "Cool New Must Have Feature!!!" to get people to buy tickets and TVs. The drones of the world took the bait - hook, line, and sinker. So now every other industry is trying to get on that bandwagon while it's hot. They'd all be screwed if someone did figure out usable consumer holographic tech.

They have but it won't fit in a phone yet. It is freaky looking. Of course if it was up to one of the backers, it would eventually be offered in homes at a premium cost.

While what you said is true, the 2.0MP in the article is referring to the cameras, and is another error in the chart since the Evo 3D can take 5MP 3D pictures. The screen itself is only about 0.5MP if you look at the resolution that way and thus in 3D mode each eye will see about 0.25MP.

Exactly what I thought. But it is possible to have two parallax layers, one in portrait and the other in landscape and very cool software to control them. But this not like HTC to do something so cool and not advertise the heck out of it.

GSM arena and LG look kinda dumb for the article then.

Phil, can you show this in your review or next hands on video? Thanks.

Heay phill i think i have a solution about the memory, i think hearing in a video that of the 4 gb of rom 1 gb was reserved for apps...plug the phone into your computer and see if the missing 3 gb are there, i think that is where those missing gb are...but i could be wrong
