Ask us about the Sprint Evo 4G

NFL app is going away at the end of March. Verizon decided to overpay for the feature so Sprint let it go.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! They finally give me harware and a network it will actually work on then take it away. YOU BASTARDS!!!!!

I wouldn't worry. Sprint stated it was developing its own NFL app which has all the potential of being even better than then official one since Sprint won't have to do whatever the NFL mafia tells it to. In addition, Sprint picked up ESPN TV in conjunction with Sprint TV, so there's a good possibility that while losing the Thursday night games we will instead be able to watch every MNF game all season long. I'm actually encouraged by the news.

I want to know if the HTC EVO supports multiple exchange accounts...I currently have a palm pre which supports at least two exchange accounts. I switched to the HTC Hero for a while and I was only able to install one exchange account. I had to download a third-party email program for the second exchange account which I was not to happy about. I hope they upgraded the Android stock email program to be able to integrate multiple exchange accounts.

Secondly is the screen AMOLED?

If they're still tweaking the phone what can we expect to change? The os seemed solid from all the video's on youtube and the hardware is beastly so what's left to be "finalized"?

Actually, you never saw past the homescreens, camera app, QIK app, and a few others. Sprint was forbidding anyone who touched it to delve too deep into the OS because it was unfinished and any tinkering might have scrambled the test phone.

What will/can change?

A few OS tweaks here and there. If it doesn't come out for a few months, there's a possibility Google/HTC/Sprint can load Android 2.5 (Froyo) onboard, though that's a longshot. I'm sure it's just a lot of last-minute 4G testing and hardware-to-software adjustments.

What would I like to see changed?

An AMOLED screen capable of 24-bit, 16.7 million colors. 8-16Gb of Flash ROM and 1Gb of RAM. WiFi n. Scorpion Proc, or at least a 1.3Ghz flavor. None of this will happen, of course. You'll have to wait until Nov-Dec for that. But the tech exists now, which is what bothers me about it.

My guess... $250-$299 after rebates and discounts, and available on ED plans priced $69.99 per month and above, possibly EPRP @ $59 as well. No additional charge for 4G and available the first week of June.

Add me to the list of people wanting more info on the Exchange ActiveSync support.

And I'm just speculating here, but I'd be very surprised if Sprint did different plan pricing for 4G devices. From what I've heard, the 4G aircards do use a different plan, but the monthly fee is the same as the 3G data plans. Also, in the Sprint/Clearwire keynotes the other day both CEOs said it was cheaper for them to provide 4G than it is to provide 3G.

I talked to a couple of retail employees today that didnt seem to think sprint would charge more for the 4g, but then they have been known to be wrong. This is the same sprint employee that forgot to connect me to a contract which is why I can upgrade again so soon.

Many unasnwered questions. Promise not kept.

OK, OK. We got it. You guys still have plenty of (very good!) questions regarding the Sprint Evo 4G. So let's make things easier on everybody and get them all in one place. What else do you want to know about the Evo 4G? Post your Q's in this thread, and we'll get you some A's. Promise.

Phil, comon' man!
Dude, you started this thread and pretty much let it fester. Its full of questions and speculations. I know you're probably a busy guy, but let's answer some questions. Draw a line after your your answer and say that you want to move on. Otherwise you're lookin like a person that doesn't keep your PROMISE.

I promise.

Relax, I don't think Phil intended to answer the questions here in the thread. He's probably going to be doing a review and is going to try to answer most of those questions in the review. He's also probably reaching out to a Sprint connect to answer our questions.

It's really a beautiful phone. I have two questions... Since it's not due out for the next 3-6 months, why are they using the 1GHz SnapDragon CPU, rather than going with the upcoming Cortex A9 dual core? And secondly, when will it be available in Europe (specifically NL)?

I don't believe this phone will be released in Europe unless they come out with a GSM version of it which is highly unlikely since this phone was exclusively made for Sprint and it's 3G/4G network

I thought that WiMax will be the new GSM, since, lot of countires over sees are already using Wimax, I would like to know if WiMax is used in Europe and WiMax is here I can use it over sees since they already have it up and running. Or will LTE be the new GSM, or is LTE only for USA? Does anyone know whats going to happen here with LTE and WiMax?
Also the president of Sprint said that LTE will make a bigger foot print then WiMax why did Sprint go with WiMax and not wait for LTE and have a joint venture with VZW and AT&T.

wimax is only data, you will still need gsm in europe for calls

So when WiMax came out about 2 years ago it was brand new technology and so Sprint teamed up with Clearwire to start building towers that would support WiMax technology. LTE was still in the process of being developed. So then when LTE was developed Clearwire recognized that it was better than WiMax so they made it so that their transmiters can be switched over to LTE when that technology has been optimized. Clearwire has taken the approach of data first, voice second. Eventually WiMax will also support voice but for now it is just data.

seeing more Pre owners here than at Pre Central. Not a good sign for Palm, sadly. As a Pre owner myself, I feel like a wandering spouse. I was perfectly content w/ mine, but a test drive on my co-worker's Droid has convinced me I need the Apps. To put the record straight, my co-worker's Droid has the same battery issues as mine, and she also uses 2 chargers (one work, one home) to get around this problem. I strongly suspect the same will be the case with the EVO (and why are all the best devices 3 letters= pre, evo, hd2.)

I would like to echo the questions regarding the oleophobic screen (please!), and, of course, price, since I am likely paying retail. I find it hard to believe that Sprint would feature a separate pricing plan for WiMax since it is not yet fully live in the majority of it's markets. We have WiMax in Portland, but not in my neighborhood yet (ok by me since i only phone/text at home.)

Yeah, same here. Bought a release day Pre, and while I've loved it, I'm pretty sure that I'll be jumping to an Evo when it's released.

While I like the form factor of my Pre in my pocket, I'm wanting a bigger, high resolution screen for my aging eyes. And there are a lot of other, individually small, but collectively large hardware issues/shortcomings with my Pre that are making me dissatisfied, as much as I love WebOS.

So I'm hanging here, mostly lurking, coming up to speed on Android.

I too will leaving my Palm Pre for a Evo. I can't wait for this phone to be released. I got bored with my Pre and am on my 3rd replacement since the day it launched. Playing with my wife's Hero sold me on Android. I can't wait for the SlingPlayer app.

I got rid of my pre for the hero with no charge because I went through 5 in a short period and no one could explain why I was only getting 5 hours of battery without using it and my gf's older pre got her through the day without any battery saving techniques. I will never buy a Palm product or a slider phone again. Plus Palm lost all of my contacts with the 1.2.1 update and I never got them back.

I am also thinking about leaving the pre to get the evo. It's just such a nice phone. And I was hoping sprint was going to get the HD2 but instead they decided to one up it. The phone is gorgeous. Just got done watching the videos on youtube and notice they said the youtube app would play HQ videos when the phone notices it's got a 4G connection. Would it still do the same while running on wi-fi? Also does it have a ringer off/vibrate switch. I love that about my pre. I love my pre and webos but androids just killing the cellphone game right now. I've played around with plenty of android phones from the mytouch to the droid can't forget the G1. Had a chance to play with the hero and liked the phone. But the pres multitasking just took me by surprise. Can't wait for the Evo to come out. I'm almost willing to pay the unsubsidized prife for the phone depending on how much the price ends up being because all of the features. Specially the camera.

Sorry we took so long to get some of your questions answered. Got stuck in Houston on the way back from CTIA, and tried to have a semi-normal weekend with the family. :p

Anyhoo, here you go. It's a good start.
