Is it worth it to switch from Verizon? Here on the Colorado front range, my friends on AT&T get as good, and sometimes better, reception than I do. I'm also sick of the fact that 90% of unlocked phones don't work on Verizon. The reason I'm asking is that I'm just curious about customer service, and people's overall experiences with them.

I plan on selling the phone I have to buy from them for the deal to go through and use the money go buy an unlocked phone to get away from the bloatware and slow updates. I'll finally be able to use any unlocked phone I want outside of the Moto X, Nexuses, and iPhones. So exciting!

Just because it's AT&T doesn't make any unlocked phone magically work. Still has to support it.

Examine the coverage maps of both providers carefully. My daughter and family who live in Parker are on Verizon and can't switch to AT&T because of no AT&T coverage at a high school (Legends) her daughter attends. I've had no trouble with my AT&T service when visiting, except at that particular hole in coverage at the HS. You will incur costs to make the switch, but you will enjoy the improvement in voice clarity and slightly lower bills.

Check Root Metrics for your area to ensure AT&T is good where you're at.

Well.. Support it as in have the radio bands yes... Since that goes for any carrier but other than that it'll work. AT&T doesn't restrict specific devices.

I just did the big switch to directv and att for unlimited.

The $650 deal by itself is not that great because:
You have to trade in your old phone and buy a new one on next payment plan
You only get paid for the amount of your termination fee or payment balance.
The value of your trade in is paid by at&t gift card and subtracted from the total.

So the only way this is even remotely a deal is if you buy a new phone on the old plan, sell it and trade in a cheap ebay phone to get the full $650.
I did this and while it did work out, it was a pain. I also was able to bogo 2 gs4s @ $399 from best buy so that sweetened the deal plus all the directv gift cards.

They actually restrict them more then Verizon... With Verizon if it works everything works. With at&t I can't get volte and what not.

Ah you mean features? That is different than what I was thinking as you said they restrict it and that was it (as if the device wouldn't work on the network) which wouldn't be the case. Missing a feature or two sometimes can happen with an unlocked device -- just depends on the device.
