AT&T vs StraightTalk on AT&T

I've just ordered an N5, I currently have a GN on Verizon but Verizon doesn't support the N5 so I have to move to the AT&T network. StraightTalk runs on the AT&T network but I'm wondering if it's really the same as being on AT&T. My understanding is that StraightTalk has no roaming so the holes the AT&T are of greater concern that they are with AT&T. Can anyone speak about their experiences with both? I'm particularly concerned with AT7T's coverage in New Hampshire/Vermont and Maine. I'm in Massachusetts but we travel a lot on the weekends which is when I use my mobile phone most, during the week I rely on my wired phone.

You'll essentially be getting AT&T coverage without roaming as mentioned in your post. I would suggest taking a look at the coverage map to see what parts are covered and where you'll expect to be without coverage. Also, I think there is a thread on Straight talk in the carrier Forums. Pop in there and see if there's anything helpful.

Also, they have cut some people off, I've heard, for going over the data limit.

You mean stop services entirely or just suspend data until the next billing cycle?

That's interesting. I guess it's possible if you are violating the terms of use and/or exceeding the allotment provided to you with the package. Good information to know, thanks!

I'm not 100% sure though. There are also things I've read which say cut off just for the billing cycle.

I've had no problems with Straight Talk. I don't use Youtube or Netflix on the go much but I do stream my music thru Play Music daily. I have myself and two kids on ST for a couple of years. The only thing I have to day is their customer service isn't that good, but only had to talk to them once.

Give them a try. You are not under contract so if you don't like it you can always switch anytime. At most you would be out $50.

That was mainly what used to happen, when they had more of a shady terms of service, that didn't specifically say how much data you could use. Now they have a 2.5 Gigabyte set limit to keep things clear.

Yes, my wife & I haven't had any issues with Straight Talk or Net10 since they implemented the 2.5GB data limit. We both stream audio & video, and I've even tethered some. I don't think they're as worried about how you use the data; they'll just throttle until the next billing cycle when you hit the limit.

I live in MA and travel to VT/NH quite a bit on weekends. Have had no major issues with Straight Talk (AT&T sim). The coverage is decent, if not excellent. Data speed is good and after the 2GB limit, they throttle it down to 256kbps.

Good to know, I'm thinking of using ST with my n5 after I finally pay the Sprint etf.
