I signed up for the equivalent notice for both the Palm Pre and the EVO. I did get a notice from Sprint both times........ AFTER IT WAS ALREADY OUT!!!

Indeed, I anticipate I will finally receive the email from Sprint only once I have an Epic in hand.

Though, they probably expect those of us who are really anticipating the device to be refreshing Android Central several times a day anyway :)

I got an Evo e-mail before the release... but after Android Central posted it (but only barely). I think the e-mails go out in waves.

LOL at that youtube link... 99% of us here have seen that video. I know I am not the only one that has seen all the non samsung event videos. Even the couple with the ****** kids talking about the specs.

:D

LOL, you're also one of those that are anxiously checking youtube and the forums constantly 2?

Yeah I definitely didn't think it was a link any of us hadn't seen.. but it at least shows Samsung's PR department is continuing to remind us that it's coming. For whatever that's worth.

Standing back and seeing this from another perspective.

Sprint holding back the Epic release until End of July / August is actually brilliant.

This past week we saw the release of 3 MAJOR devices. Hard to get noticed when you're trying to make a splash.

Evo is back-ordered. Get those suckers fulfilled first (hold ups shouldn't be much longer) and then launch the Epic; this prevents the rush of canceling orders for the Evo and then picking up the Epic thus creating a shortage on another phone.

Sprint might have waited until Samsung could produce enough units to prevent a shortage. Sprint doesn't need egg on their face AGAIN with their two 4G phones being backordered at the same time.

All speculation... but I did it by stepping back and saying if I were a Sprint Executive. I would rather look good to the mass population and press by not goofing up than appeasing a few thousand forum geeks who refresh a "Release Date?" thread 9 times an hour. You know I am talking to you...

I just came from a Sprint Corp Store here in San Jose CA. The Manager told me rumors are End of July or sometime in August. I know its kinda vague but its better than nothing.

That's what my sprint rep said to me the last time I went to the sprint store. I tried out the Evo then. Who ever said bigger is better could have never been so wrong.

I think that sprint should have released the epic by now or around sometime in the next two weeks. The Evo shortage is undoubtedly making them lose money now.

I couldn't agree more with this statement. I t makes perfect sense to NOT compete with phone orders already placed. I just got off the phone with my mom and she said she heard ~ September for a release and to be honest Im kinda glad its a little later as that makes it more likely that 3.0 will be an option when released.

Plus this gives me time for HP/palm to come out with a new phone so I can compare. Im a BIG webOS guy, but also an android enthusiast/follower.

I agree with you. I would buy either one at this point just to get away from my Pre

Sorry- but not a chance- when Samsung will release a new OS- it will be pushed by them to all carriers at the same time- and then it's up to each carrier to clear the OTA and release once cleared for the network. Samsung is NOT going to release a factory OS update on 1 model Galaxy due to a later hardware release. Epic could come out in Sept- and the 2.2 froyo update may be in the same month if they wanted- they'd still do an OTA not package in box.

I agree- the Evo shortage is killing sprint- if I was an exec, I'd have a window opportunity for each phone release with the CAVEAT that if you cannot supply hardware for a period of time then Sprint reserves the right to move up the selling window for the next exclusive if the new hardware is ready qty wise and marketing can be moved up.

So if HTC isn't in store- at the very least be able to announce sell date, and have a preorder sale for Epic with the caveat for the consumer if EVO becomes available they have a choice.

Sprint needs to service the consumer first. - course my recent headaches with them bricking the signal on my Pre, I've realized they don't give a hang about us so who am I kidding?

First, how do you know it's a September release. Second, Sprint's customer service is pretty bad. I remember trying to get my MSL for the Instinct from them, oh boy. One lady told me to show my SSN, but I did not have it on me, so I told her to wait. Then she said, just give me the account, and when I accidentally told her the wrong password, she started getting REAL angry. Eventually, I gave up and the next lady gave it to me right on the spot. The signal is great where I live, so I really don't care about customer service when I actually have XDA now instead of the little band of Instinct hackers.

I love everything about my pre minus the terrible cheap hardware and super low resolution.

What I meant is since they are releasing the epic 4g in august or september (hearsay) that it is more likely that they will be releasing 3.0 for the galaxy series. I guess I should have stated the series, but in all honesty I think the later release should give us hope that they wont dump this series and leave it at 2.2 and only release 3.0 for the newer series. Oh and I prefer OTA over USB push after I did the 1.5 to 2.1 on my wifes moment.

I talked to my mom who has friends that work for sprint and they said ~september. So take what I say with a grain of salt as it is all hearsay.

This is a disaster for Sprint. They have no cutting edge smartphone at this point. The EVO is irrelevant if you can't buy it. The EVO launch is even worse than the Palm Pre. Sprint would be nuts not to release a phone. That is if they can get inventory. They had a window of opportunity and have yet again blew it. You can't make this stuff up.

Reread my post- I said Epic COULD come in Sept. I, just like everyone else here have no confirmed idea when the thing comes out.

I understand your hope that 3.0 will be supported by Galaxy - but considering that Google doesn't know what 3.0 will bring entirely- it's almost impossible for a handset manufacturer to confirm they can support their lineup with it. I'm glad to hear them address the froyo update- and I hope we get it in a reasonable timeframe- say 2+months after the phone is released.

I think Evo has still sold more phones than Pre did during the same timeframe- and the Evo is definitely more popular, but you would think after both the Instinct and Pre sellout debacles, Sprint and handset makers would have been more prepared for the Evo. I thought the preorder was evidence of this. The LACK of a preorder for Galaxy phones on most carriers has me a bit concerned at Samsung and the carriers' support efforts. Most Tmobile / Att stores have little to no marketing in store- let alone demo units- but I also hear the official marketing date wasn't until TOMORROW 7/21... so what's up with the soft launches?

Agreed. If it won't be released until September I might go get a Vibrant. I need a new phone and I want a Galaxy S. If Sprint won't deliver or won't at least say WHEN they will deliver, 2 other providers will. Verizon won't be far behind TMo and ATT I'm quite sure.
