what a lucky guy....the most i hate in this mobile world is the query keyboard ...i recenty got the evo and i love my phone but i was thinking in giving it to my girlfriend and then get the epic but they killed me with the keyboard ...literaly i hate that is something not for everyone ...and is loosing fans every day ..on top of that it rests style on the handset ...all of the other carriers did not put it in but of course ...our beloved sprint did it ..

... then keep the Evo. Seriously. It's a quality phone that seems to meet your needs.

For me, I simply cannot use an on-screen keyboard effectively (and boy have I tried). That's why I have an N810 tablet and a Palm Pre and why I was seriously considering the Droid when it came out. It's also why I am completely sold on the Epic and why I for one am glad to have a market where there are different many different phones for many different needs.

I also prefer a keypad. There is no way I can have a phone without one. Instant messaging and typing up emails is just so much easier without an onscreen qwerty taking up half my viewable screen. I tried using IRC on the EVO and boy that was a pain so I got rid of that phone and went back to my Palm Pre. I also didn't like the color quality of the EVO screen and the scrolling was not smooth. I was also surprised to see games lag so much on it compared to the palm pre. This phone has answered all the problems with the EVO.

The epic can even play mkv, xvids, divx, wmv and even 5.1 sound. That means you never have to convert any videos.

Honestly, I don't like touchscreen keyboards too much, except for Swype. I come from an iPhone 3g s where I spell everything wrong and it ticks me off when I have to send 3 texts that correct the autocorrect. The Evo's touchscreen keyboard was much nicer in my opinion and the autocorrect seemed to recognize what I REALLY wanted to type. I tried out Swype on the Evo, but it was just too big for it IMO. I think the Epic 4g will be perfect with its Swype/physical keyboard combo.

I did not have any issues with the evo on screen keyboard; but I might find use for it from one time to another. Nevertheless, The epic is where I find myself.

There does not seem to be much buzz for the phone on here though now does it.

Well that's just it right? Sprint has two offerings, The Evo and the Epic. Both different styles to offer its customer base but both are considered premiere HIGH END devices. They also have two low tiered Android offerings of the same design.

Also, like I told my friend, this phone is thin enough that you could still have it and never slide out the hard keyboard and still feel like it's a waste of thickness.

Other things our beloved Sprint did (no sarcasm from me tho) is the flash on the back and dedicated camera button.
Exactly.
Don't forget the front facing camera! :)

I am currently a 3Gs user. I got an EVO they day they came out and returned it the next day. I couldn't handle the typing. Even though the phone is bigger the lack of multi-touch typing really messed up the feel of things (for me). I really prefer a physical keyboard hence why I'm dying for the Epic to release.

To get a bit back on topic. I spoke with a friend who works at a Sprint Store. He has no idea when the official release date is so I can't even add anything worthwhile. He is however saving me one when they do release:cool:

I think they should have reversed it IMO. Introduced the Epic 4g first, then introduced the Intercept for people who wanted an "Epic-like" experience for a cheaper price and lower specs. Although, they might not be really that much alike, due to severe problems in 3D graphics acceleration and the absence of an LED flash. Maybe they couldn't get through final testing quickly enough to release that early? What bothers me is that if they did an "announcement on launch day," then I couldn't pre-order it and I'd probably have to wait to get one like I did for the Evo 4g.

Nah, No one was busting down T-Mobile's door on Thursday. You should be able to walk right on in and get the phone.

Yeah I doubt that t-mobile has had a Droid X-like run on the Vibrant. I watch a fair amount of television and I have yet to see a single t-mobile commercial for their Galaxy S. Hopefully whenever Sprint decides to release the Epic, they won't be similarly foolish with the lack of advertising.

I hope that's what they did just because if thy announce it then I would have to wait longer.

On another note I would rather have a touchscreen keyboard than a physical just because it isn't as loud and I think I can text faster with a touch screen( I have an ipodtouch, 1 1/2 years old)

Samsung has the best position in the smart phone business. I don't know why people say they have bad build quality. No one I know is mad at theirs.

I love the build quality of my samsung dumphone, and the battery life. Granted, the software sucks, but in terms of design it is probably the best phone I ever used. I eventually made a habit of throwing it around like a ninja star.

BTW I played with Vibrant keyboard and in landscape mode, the keyboard keys are large enough and spaced far enough that its no problem typing. So even if Epic didnt have physical keyboard, it would still be a winner. But with all that it has, now this phone causing constantly growing impatience in me. Sprintttt be out with this phone already!!!!

I know! I fear though that its going to be a while. I hope not, but I fear it will. All we need is one CDMA carrier to step up and release a date, and the other should follow suit.

I'm hoping the Epic will be compatible with Handcent's multicolored led light setting. You know, the one where you can pick any color you want for customization? I don't have a clue though if this can use any color besides red and blue.
