Well not that it helps, but I just got off the phone with one of our local Sprint Store Managers...

He said that Sprint is going to do the advocacy program for Epic4G. They have already selected their Epic Advocate and are awaiting the delivery of the phone. He said that Sprint will not tell them when the phone will be sent or when to expect it, simply that the phone will be shipped express overnight to the store and arrive unannounced.

From the time the unannounced Epic arrives; the program is expected to run for approximately two weeks. Because of the fact that the phone has not arrived at the store yet (though it could still show up tomorrow ;) ), he speculates that launch will either be around August 9th or August 16th (second or third week of Aug).

I know... wonderful news... yet another different answer. I can only say that he was nearly spot on with the information he provided regarding Evo launch. Testing his track record :)

It's going to be released by mid august forsure. They should release it on august 9th if they're going to wait just to under cut the droid 2.

I hope it's the 9th because I'm on vacation august 16th. Unless I want to go to a random Best Buy in Ohio, I'd rather just get it before the trip.

Sorry for the noobish question, but what is an advocacy program?

Oops, I double posted. If the admins want, they can merge the posts.

Sprint does what they call the Customer Advocate Program. It is basically a program where one of the reps from each store is selected as an Advocate for a new model of phone which is to launch soon. That Advocate will get the phone 2-3 weeks early and become extra familiar with it. This will allow them to assist both their fellow Sprint employees and their customers with learning the features of their new phone. The idea being that at least one employee in each store will become, essentially, a "specialist" on the new phone.

That's actually a really good idea. I think that a lot of company's are using word of mouth to advertise their products. So about mid August?

It's time we take this to a new level. I suggest someone threaten Spirit with a Double Rainbow Song Marathon. Tell Sprint you will be listening to that song on loop until they release the phone. It's worse than a hunger strike, they will have no choice but to give us more info. I am sure this would catch the attention of some tech news blogs.

Which brave soul is up to the task?

YouTube - DOUBLE RAINBOW SONG!!

My vote's in for you to make that sacrifice.

Ah, now it finally makes sense. Well, lets hope that we see some advocates really soon, so then we can get a better idea when the Epic will be released.

I'm new to Sprint (or rather will be once the Epic releases). That being said I'm not sure exactly how the program works either. It would however be nice if some new videos started to leak out of reviews and specs of the phones. I've watched every one that I could find at least a dozen times. I'm anxious for Phil to do his rendition because there isn't some loud noise in the background and he seems genuine and thorough. Every review at the Sprint event is like pulling teeth with the background noise.

Yeah, I did the same, but the noise is unbearable.

the epic is featured on the sprint homepage with the tagline coming this summer...so hopefully it should be here soon

yeah, i noticed that, too. shouldn"t be too much longer

At most, another month.

Release date should be imminent. Doesn't matter, VZW is smacking the crap out of Sprint in terms of high end devices. They just keep popping them out making Sprint and their Evo look irrelevant.

Which devices would that be?

The milestone which is EoL now, the incredible thats a stripped down version of the EVO (and on 2 month back order), the Droid X thats really just on par with the EVO, the Milestone 2 which doesn't even have a spec list yet, or the galaxy phone which is at least 2 months from release? All of which lack 4g or the ability to upgrade again in 365 days.

Please, enlighten me. Though I'm going to assume those were just random ramblings of a man that just wants his Epic already.

The Incredible is not a stripped down Evo. Different Specs, some better, some worse. That's just wildly inaccurate.

Droid X is on par with the Evo, however, that's a wash.

Droid 2 is going to probably drop in August.

However, VZW is killing Sprint in mind share. I think Android ---> I think Droid ---> I think VZW ---> I think spiffy commercials ---> promotions ---> RED EYE ---> DROOOOOOOID!

4G is a joke... and so is LTE. The speeds are MEH vs. Battery life. Great, surf the web 10 seconds faster just to have a minute of battery life drained that much quicker. Also, WiMax isn't everywhere, so you're getting a $10 up charge for something you can't use regardless of your location. Using 4G as a strength is almost not worth it since it can be seen as a major weakness.

Not ramblings... perspective. I returned my Evo to wait for the Epic, however, I am still intelligent enough to know when my team is losing and brave enough to say it.

I just looked on Sprint's page and only saw the Evo being advertised. What are you guys talking about?

Incredible is the same as the EVO. Same chipset, same mfg, same o/s, same sense UI. A consumer would consider them the same phone but with a little different screen size. Don't kid yourself.

So we agree, the X is no better than the EVO and vice-versa.

As imminent as a release may be we still have no specs for the Droid 2

If you're argument is about who is the perceived leader then this is a battle for the world's most distant 2nd place since the iPhone is dominating "mind share" god I hate that word. If it's a battle of something that actually is tangible then again I ask you, show me the high end VZW devices that are "Smacking the crap" out of sprint.
