Aug 11th "Official" Release Date?

I kind of see his point. Whenever I tell anyone that I have an android device their first thought is "OHHH you have the Droid!?" SMH

That is the only phone that the average iPhone user/non-tech geek associates with the android platform and it is on Verizon.

@Keith: not really. The Droid X processor is Far superior to the Evo's Snapdragon. So is the gpu. The only thing the incredible has on the Evo is the AMOLED screen.

Incredible is the same as the EVO. Same chipset, same mfg, same o/s, same sense UI. A consumer would consider them the same phone but with a little different screen size. Don't kid yourself.

So we agree, the X is no better than the EVO and vice-versa.

As imminent as a release may be we still have no specs for the Droid 2

If you're argument is about who is the perceived leader then this is a battle for the world's most distant 2nd place since the iPhone is dominating "mind share" god I hate that word. If it's a battle of something that actually is tangible then again I ask you, show me the high end VZW devices that are "Smacking the crap" out of sprint.

At first, you said the Incredible was a stripped down Evo and now you agree its the same. So, there is your first flaw in debating.

And now the Evo = Droid X.

Which means 2 devices VS. 1 (regardless of availability, since they are all sold out), if my math serves me correctly, that's better.

It's wash for Epic vs. Droid 2, since nothing is announced in terms of dates.

But the Fascinate is also in the same boat but at least announced.

So, tally stands at 3 vs. 1.

Mind share is relevant whether you admit it or not, and if you don't believe in it than look at VZW vs. Sprint subscriber numbers. Now, you hate the word mind share, it's just a fancy word for the public's opinion / awareness. I feel that my opinion differs from yours and I've based mine on my interpretation of facts. You are basing yours on your own interpretation of facts. Why you want to argue about it is beyond me... and argue in a hostile way to boot. I.E., tone of your post is obviously hostile. "Don't kid yourself" is condescending which is hostile. "Please, enlighten me..." see above. If you didn't mean it in that way, just know that you most certainly come off in that manner.

Depends on which benchmark you're running.

The Incredible also has more internal storage but lacks a Front Facing Camera. These are nitpickings tho, they have the same processor / RAM. I feel it's a draw.

They had a spot for the Epic last night. They took it down and put up something for Jimmy Johnston and NASCAR

the epic is featured on the sprint homepage with the tagline coming this summer...so hopefully it should be here soon

I dont see it either so I guess it was a "slip up". :p

At most, another month.

Release date should be imminent. Doesn't matter, VZW is smacking the crap out of Sprint in terms of high end devices. They just keep popping them out making Sprint and their Evo look irrelevant.

I have to agree as far as phones are concerned sprint has never been able to compete with the likes of the other carriers. Between att, vzw and tmobile they all have always had better phones then sprint (minus some exclusives like the treos and such). But that doesnt really bother me too much as I would rather have the network over a slightly cooler phone. Sure there are alot of people out there gunning for the coolest phone no matter what network its on, but there are also those of us that choose the, IMHO, more important aspect of a cell.

Honestly I dont think sprint will ever compete, but then again that is just from what i have seen as a sprint user for over 6 years. Do I hope they start competing with the other carriers? Sure, but that would mean they probably wouldnt get the epic 4g type phones because slabs are more preferential then slider QWERTY's are at this time.

I really don't understand why they will not put out a release date. Does anyone know if Verizon has announced a date for their version?

Tmobile had better phones? Tmobile just got their first high end Android phone and all ATT has is the iphone.

Well, better is debatable, but def a pioneer in terms of getting devices sooner than Sprint.

G1, My Touch, HD2, Galaxy S. All came out rather quickly compared to a Sprint equivalent.

I just looked on Sprint's page and only saw the Evo being advertised. What are you guys talking about?
The Epic is on the homepage. They have 4 items that rotate and are shown to the right of the screen. The Epic is the last one and takes you to that page where you can sign up to be notified (We've all been there already).

Update: My bad. They removed it. It's now replaced by a NASCAR ad. It was there last night.

What more do you need aside from the Epic and the Evo? The Sprint Super anti-Droid XX0 with a 3ghz processor and 2gigs of ram with a gpu that processes 1000000000000 triangles per second? IMO, Sprint's tied the other carriers, not by sales, not by customers, but by phones. Pricing's the best though (except maybe T-Mobile)

Advertising. However... bringing someone in the door is the battle VZW is winning.

It's cute how you keep mentioning the Droid 2 despite there not being any concrete spec sheet.

Your point (or at least your wishy washy attempt at one) was that VZW is kicking Sprint around in the high end device market. This simply is not true. For every Verizon handset there is at least a comparable if not superior device from Sprint. Not realizing that having 4g handsets/service now (which millions of people have access to) is better than a promise of LTE sometime next year (maybe) is absurd. You'd be good @ apple with your ability to reject reality and create your own.

Keith, you're a total ******.

4G is a joke... and so is LTE. The speeds are MEH vs. Battery life. Great, surf the web 10 seconds faster just to have a minute of battery life drained that much quicker. Also, WiMax isn't everywhere, so you're getting a $10 up charge for something you can't use regardless of your location. Using 4G as a strength is almost not worth it since it can be seen as a major weakness.
Look, argue about facts or throw in your opinion. But don't throw in your opinion and claim you're talking facts. Compare a service that's available in many big markets to a service that's rumored to be turning on soon, even though there won't be an LTE phone until 2011. And then whine about the $10 fee as if Sprint's plans still aren't $20/$30 cheaper than the Verizon equivalent even with the $10 fee included. And if you wanna talk rumors, then how about how Wimax gives you unlimited data compared to the rumors of upcoming tiered data from Verizon. Yeah, that's apples-to-apples. ******.

You make these blanket statements and then argue with people who start a conversation. If he's coming off as hostile, you're definitely coming off as a total ******. ******.

You want to keep arguing about "mind share"? Well front facing cameras are now considered important to the public. You know what's not important to the general public? Internal storage. ******.

The DROID 2 is a DROID X with a 3.7" display, no HDMI port and a 5 MP camera.

That is the spec sheet.

Your idea of argumentation is "wishy washy", you've now back peddled twice.

There is only one HIGH END device from Sprint at this point. Three from Verizon (Droid, Incredible, and Droid X).

Marketing = Exposure; people want DROID. Hence the smacking around... Lines and lines all over the country for Droid X. The turn out for the Evo was "Meh" at best, sure there is a backorder, but I don't think they've even sold 500,00 yet.

Bringing up Apple just proves you're an angry person. Which was another moot point.

Good day to you SIR.

I think you flatter yourself by calling this an arguement. You spewed out an incorrect statement and now when someone called you on it you're going to change the meaning of your words.

The HTC Hero is every bit a "high end device" as the aged Milestone.

Look you want to play the "lets guess at numbers" game and try to figure out who's selling more of what, then fine go ahead but realize that all you are (and all I am) is a peon consumer guessing about numbers that we'll never know for sure.

Your perception is that VZW is kicking tail in hardware and revenue. Mine is that Sprint is winning this year with 4g handsets and lower plan prices plus the Sprint Premier program. You and I have no way of "proving" either view but we can prove that Sprint doesn't have a gap from the lowest dumb phones to the EVO, the same holds true for VZW, there's something for everyone.

please quit trying to act high and mighty, it only proves you're a ******. Another moot point...
