Only flashed the mod badge when you broke the rules. Twist and bend it anyway you like.

I believe Sprint didn't pass... . I think Google passed on the CDMA when VZW pulled out. However, neither one of us can prove it... therefore moot. And every other carrier DIDN'T pass on the N1, ahem... AT&T and T-Mobile both have the device. Sprint was the last to decide... the phone would have brought them customers and Sprint can't afford to be that picky.

I understand Sprint having the Evo is VERY good for them... I even believe it's helping them close the loss gap due to Nextel (Sprint is actually profitable, Nextel is what is dragging them down). But you don't expect me to believe their having a better year (even in proportion to customer base and gross earnings) than VZW?! IF you do, then seriously, we have thread crapped way too much and let's just end this one now. It's obvious we just don't see it the same way... unless you're Dan Hesse or Ivan Seidenberg and have inside information, you aren't going to convince me otherwise.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I really think that Sprint will have a higher net profit ratio after the 2010 fiscal year closes.

Also its a pretty safe guess that anyone who writes articles for the site is a mod, I knew long before you mentioned it. ;)

Keith Newman - glad I cracked you up, ****** :p. But I think we've reached a consensus on this matter...

So I'd like to throw out a new idea: carriers only need three high-end Android devices. A large slate (Evo/Droid X), a small slate (??/Incredible), and a QWERTY (Epic/Droid 2). Throw in a midrange or two (if two, then definitely one slate, one QWERTY).

So all that Sprint is missing is the small slate. But this is a huge oversight. My friend loved his Hero, but thinks the Evo is too big and keyboard phones are too fat. (He wears tight jeans. He should go suck off Steve Jobs... wusses)

And this might also explain why Verizon's Galaxy S isn't on their roadmap... they don't need two small slates in the high-end category (although the Galaxy truly trumps the Incredible by almost all measures).

Yep, that sounds just about right. I like your business strategy. Go forth and make it happen... :D

Jerry and I had a theory about why the Incredible seemed so... blah (at least to us).

I think it was developed side by side with the Nexus One, which came out in January of 2010. It had to be in development for 6-8 months, which means it could have begun around April-ish, 2009. Therefore, you have the Incredible which is it's sister phone (specs are a little different, not by much) was released in April (late), possibly a year after it was started. Tech changes... a lot. Hence the reason it looks so... outdated; even though it is considered recent technology.

Wait?! Nextel creates way too large of a loss for us to look at net profit... it would be better if we could always just look at SPRINT vs Sprint with Nextel. Don't you think? That's the reason for Sprint being in the red year after year.

Well 60 days from now is the last day of Summer... Sprint and Samsung have both said, pretty definitively, that the phone will be out "This Summer".

So this intel is actually pretty spot-on, lol

Possible Release Date Discussion

This is the new thread designed to keep it dedicated only to Release date speculation.

We will close it once the date is actually announced.

Off topic banter will be removed.

Thanks!

I'm personally comfortable just knowing that there's actually a release plan instead of, say, being held up waiting on supply chain uncertainties.

Agreed... Renaming this to [OLD-OT]Release Date?

We straight hijacked the S out of this thread.

Anyways, with all this talk of profits and customers and Wimax and LTE... how are we not talking about the rumors of the Sprint/T-Mo merger/partnership? Hell, Dan Hesse was the one talking about it.

Good point. It's very good to hear actually. Plus, it means that a solid, verifiable leak should be coming in the next few days.

You took it that literal too eh?

He's been dancing around that one for YEARS! Always makes me giggle because it's the one that makes the most damn sense and it hasn't happened yet.

Well I can't say much on the in 30 days thing because I don't know much for sure. However I think your friend saying it will be out in the next 60 days is sadly the most generalized guaranteed statement that anyone with internet access could say. I say this because Sprint and Samsung have both said many many times this phone will be released before the end of the summer. The end of the summer is technically September 20th I think. 60 days from now is September 21. Therefore unless there is some horrible horrible delay for some reason, the phone is definitely guaranteed in 60 days, making this not news.

The real question is if it is possible that when they say the end of summer, they mean before Labor day which is when schools tend to start their first semester. Also today Samsung tweeted to one person that they are planning a late summer release if that means much, to me it sounds like any time in august onwards.

There was a major write off in that Q2 earnings report. They actually kept up with AT&T which had amazing earnings Q2. Without that writeoff, to earn 0.52 on the dollar is actually amazing...

Sprint is still writing off the Nextel loss quarter after quarter.

Plus, you see how Engadget was talking about GAAP? That's a whole can of worms that just... ugh.

/Finance major working in Accounting here. I *hate* GAAP. That's why I love working in a private company.

How would you even begin to make that work? dual mode towers? I think they'd have to wait for a 4g standard but even then you have to support GSM and CDMA phones for years. Sounds like a logistics nightmare.
