After I rooted for some reason my location and time zone has been going to Luanda. It only switches back after i restart the phone.

Also i don't know if this is supposed to be this way but some of the versions in the software information window are older versions.

Thanks for your help.

hey so if my question is... Is this all i have to do to root my thunderbolt? or is this just the initial step in a longer process?

...am i too much of a noob to do this myself?

this is pretty much it... there is a new rooted version of the update , but regardless you still need to go through this process, and if you follow directions you should be fine

I was thinking of doing the update that came out on the 12th that you posted a link to for rooted users. I think its by jcase not sure though. If i do this update will i still be able to unroot using your autounroot method?

yes you will, The way unroot works is , it tricks the system into thinking it is older thereby allowing you to flash the older stock image because it thinks its an upgrade.

I will be updating this tonight probably available with a new version by morning

Does this method work on a previously rooted, OTA unrooted bolt?

I dont know what you are asking here exactly

Does the jcase auto root contain the latest HTC update? I am currently rooted via that method.

i didnt know jcase had made an auto root , if he has then i will retire mine most likely. Please link me to what he has done that is autoroot as i can't seem to find it.

Main question is at the bottom, the following is word for word/number for number what my command prompt currently says since I figured it may help out.

Well I already ran into a problem. First time rooting my tbolt, but I do have a decent amount of experience with rooting the gf's fascinate. I was following the steps on command prompt exactly or so I thought. Right after the part where it asks if you want to start the process from the beginning (I said yes) it says:

daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037
daemon started successfully
List of devices attached

You should see the serial number of your Android device (mine did not show up)
If you are not connected please follow these directions
Turn on debugging
Check usb port, cable and phone
Make sure the phone is set to charge only (My usb cable disconnected itself from the computer out so I reinserted it)
Press any key to continue...

Pushing the files to your phone
Please be patient as this take several minutes
PGOIMG.zip, busybox, psneuter, misc.img
Pushing RUU
failed to copy 'PG0IMG_downgrade.zip' to /sdcard/PG0IMG.zip': Permission denied
Pushing busybox

Pushing Psneuter

Executing Psneuter

daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037

If there is no serial number there is no connection
check connection and press any key to continue (I pressed a key)
c88dd9......bunch of other #s..... /data/local/misc.img
512+0 records in
512+0 records out
262144 bytes transferred in 0.111 sec

I unplugged the phone from the computer. Then it gives me a long list of instructions about how to press the power button when Bootloader is highlighted in blue, I did that. Then it says "The screen will change and Fastboot will be selected. Around 10sec later it will then proceed to the next step." So I waited about a minute and nothing happened. The instructions do not specify if I was supposed to select Fastboot by pressing the power button. So after a minute I selected Fastboot with the power button and it brought me back to the first screen where Bootloader is highlighted in blue. I've tried selected Bootloader and Fastboot a few times and it keeps bringing me back to each other's screens.

What the hell did I mess up? Please hurry!!

you had a bad connection , if you notice the first section says list of devices attaced and there is no serial, then you continued and since there was no connection it didnt write the file needed to the sdcard,,,

it shouldnt have let you go farther if there was a bad connection,,,,i would pull the battery change usb ports in the back of the computer and start over from the start

I reconnected at the point where it didn't list my serial number and then continued, I think that's why it let me continue. Also forgot to mention I have a laptop and only have 4 usb ports, 1 on the left and 3 on the right. I have tried 2 of them so far with both failing and now the 3rd just failed. I do have drivers installed also.

laptops give the most trouble with connection they just are not fast enough even when they do give you connection, do you have a desktop somewhere in the house?

Only have two laptops and no access to a desktop. My laptop is brand spanking new and isn't a cheap pos so I would think the usb ports would work fine. I just tried the 4th and final port and it gave me this message "failed to copy 'PG0IMG_downgrade.zip' to /sdcard/PG0IMG.zip': Read-only file system"

Any ideas on what to try next?

Do you have it on charge only?
If it its you may have a problem with the sd card. Sometimes they get corrupt or write protected.

I have it on charge only and usb debugging selected. The laptop was running on battery with power saver mode enabled. Just pulled battery and restarted phone. Also restarted computer, plugged it in, and turned on high performance. Gonna try again.

Does the port 5037 mean anything significant? Is it saying that is the usb port I should be connected to?

Should I format my sd card? If I do is all I have to do is make a copy of everything on the card to my computer and then restore the data once its formatted? Should I restore everything before or after I try rooting again? Thanks Droidx for helping me through this!

well lets determine something is wrong first...try to move files back and forth from the card , to see if its write protected
