I didn't use this auto root to root my phone so I'm not too familiar with it. I manually used ADB to root my phone.. which I was having the same problem as you.. There's an ADB command to push the phone to be recognized, I just don't remember what it was.

[NOTE]I actually just unrooted my phone so I can send it back to Verizon for a replacement.. I was having some charging issues.. So on Monday, when I re-root my phone again, I will probably try this auto root method so I can figure out what's going on and help you guys out better.[/NOTE]

This is the previous method that I used to root my phone: http://forums.androidcentral.com/th...r-one-click-root-method-available-3-26-a.html

For everyone having problems.. try this method and see if it works for you.

For un-rooting, what process did you use? The HBoot method with flashing those two files?

I've been putting this off for too long. I don't run anything but the stock stuff, besides rooted with Super User on it and the forced OTA keeps trying to install itself. I have to put my phone in airplane mode when I'm sleeping so it doesn't download it and I can't cancel it.

So you're saying that once you root your phone, you're constantly battling OTA uploads?

Is this because you don't want the OTA updates or because there is some type of glitch with rooted phones not being recognized as updated by Verizon's OTC service?

ETA: I was considering rooting to get rid of the bloatware and maybe a different ROM - but if my phone is going to constantly try to update itself that will negate the utility of this whole thing.

If you just have rooted stock - that is, you don't flash a ROM, you just get root access and leave it at that, you can still have the upgrade downloaded forcibly to your phone, which can cause problems. There are however debloated, but otherwise barely changed from stock, roms that you can flash to avoid these issues.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

I've been getting these OTA update requests for last 2 weeks or so. I was not sure what they were for, and I was planning to root, so I rejected them each time it was requested (almost once per day).

I rooted 2 days ago using the method from this thread and it was simple enough (note that I did not flash any custom ROMs yet). This morning I F'd up and accepted the update. the TB restarted and ended up freezing on a screen with a exclamation mark in a white triangle and a sad looking android dude. I gave it 15 min and then pulled the battery. it restarted and took me back to same screen. I found the menu button took me to a bootloader? screen, and a friend suggested i wipe the cache - I think this was option 2. TB seems to be working now, and still rooted.

This is my first android and I know next to nothing about the programming involved. Can anybody tell me if this was the correct thing to do? or what exactly was happening?

So now I have to go read 100 pages on the "ROM" thread!?!?

I'm getting the same error. I just Google'd the error message and people have recommended to right click the HTC Sync icon on the bottom right-hand corner of the taskbar and click "Exit." I am trying this now.

I rooted my first Thunderbolt back in May without this error message coming up. I had a replacement phone sent to me last week so I'm trying to root that one now.

So I got this far....

and then got an error saying the check sum was not correct? Any suggestions?

PS: Dans Video makes things so much easier to follow along with. +1 for Dan!

Update: Closing HTC Sync worked. I was able to root successfully. I hope this helps.

After installing the drivers I closed out of HTC Sync via the taskbar.

I then followed your instructions to root my Thunderbolt and it worked perfectly. Took about 40 mins total. This was my first root.

Thanks a lot. Much appreciated.

Stupid question, at the end of the instructions it says to delete the PG05IMG.zip, is this right????????????

Yes.. either delete it or move it to a sub folder. If if you ever have to boot into hboot ever again.. example.. your phone wont start up and you can't get to recovery to flash a backup through clockworkmod.. instead you would have to go through hboot to get to recovery and flash the backup. If the pg05img.zip is still on the card.. it will automatically load up.. blocking you from getting to recovery. If that happens.. you will need to take the sd card out of the phone and put it in a card reader on a computer to delete the zip file. This will save you the hassle of having to go through all of that.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Thanks for the tip. My laptops harddrive died on me though. So ill have to get a new one and restore windows on it before I'm able to root this dang thing. If closing sync is all I had to do I was so close.
