Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Were you able to d/l the required zip file from the linked page? the countdown keeps starting over at 10 secs and doesn't prompt me to d/l anything.

Thanks

Yes, I had no problems downloading it. Try using a different browser to download it. I'm on Chrome.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Does the phone have to be 'unlocked' before attempting this root process? I thought that the rooting process was 'in essence' the process of 'unlocking' the phone.

How do I unlock (if needed) before trying the auto-root again?

Thanks

Where are these files? Have they been integrated into the OP download that is dated 5/20?

Thanks

All is well. I have confirmed ROOT. Now, onto updating the radio / VZW ROM.

Thank you to all who have read, and were considering coming up with solutions.

But does this work if we have already downloaded the ota update Verizon sent? Also, is this version available for Apple computers?

Yes it will work but you will be downgraded back to the MR1 update. After you can upgrade back to the new update for rooted users. No it is for PC only. There's a Mac tutorial but its for manually using ADB to root.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

How do I stop the OTA push from VZW? I rooted the other day on a Win7 64bit with no issues whatsoever. It did the OTA push and it gets hung up on the android dude with a exclamation point in a triangle. Please help. I don't want to have to redo the root to fix this.
Thanks

If you're talking about the OTA from Verizon... You shouldn't accept it. It will break the root. You need to use the Official MR2 leak which can be found on the top of the forum in the sticky: http://forums.androidcentral.com/th...-mr2-compatible-rom-radio-mr1-after-root.html
You may need to flash the MR1 RUU from the unroot method to get your phone working again. After re-root and don't accept any updates from Verizon.. use the leaked versions from the devs. One way to stop the updates is to flash a custom ROM.. you can get a basic ROM thats basically what you are using now or go for something that will enhance the phone..

... or another way which I haven't tested yet would be to turn off the option in settings to check for updates.. or you can freeze the update file using Titanium Backup... I forget the name of the actual file to freeze. When I get a chance I will find out the name and post it for you. If you have any other questions or need help.. feel free to ask.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

My phone won't give me enough time to push the files before it reboots on it's own. The update was pushed over night. Is there a file I can delete to stop this?

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

After installing the drivers I closed out of HTC Sync via the taskbar.

I then followed your instructions to root my Thunderbolt and it worked perfectly. Took about 40 mins total. This was my first root.

Thanks a lot. Much appreciated.

Yeah, closing HTC Sync works, maybe we could add it to the instructions?

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

So... just got my second thunderbolt cuz the first one broke... I have done the 1 click before with no issue... I have followed all the directions. when I click start root. and press 1 to start... everything is the way it should be... all of the drivers needed are DL'd but it says that

"ADB is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

I should see the serial number on my device... BUT i am connected, I have done this before from the same computer also. when i press any key to continue. the CMD window just closes on me... what am I doing wrong... this has never happend before and I have done this at least 5 times before ???

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Try uninstalling HTC sync from your computer and then plug the phone in so it gets recognized... then reinstall HTC sync. I was having the same issue when I got my replacement. The new phones serial number wasn't being recognized until I did thee above. Also try rebooting your computer.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

all good... for some reason I had one saved on on thumb drive from a few months ago, which seems to be working so far... It let me proceed, now I am just looking at an all black CMD window... prolly just taking its time... its been a while since I did this, hope this works ;)

edit.... pushing RUU now

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

I just tried to root my TB. It ran fine (first part) up until it came to something about permissions.

It said:
executing psneuter
ADB server didn't ack
failed to start daemon
error

then it had me push any key to continue and said

/dev/block/mmcblk0p17: cannot open for write: permission denied
misc.img downgrade checksum error

I disconnected the battery and restarted everything as the instructions said but the same error occurred a second time. If someone could please help me troubleshoot this that would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

i'm getting an error message " hboot checksum error" it keeps telling to pull battery plug it back up and start from downgrade. I've restarted everything with the phone and the computer and have gotten this error at least 3 times. Am I missing something?

I had talked about the benefits of rooting so much that my coworker wanted in. I used this method to root his tbolt and everything went flawlessly. Nice work and thanks!!!

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat
