Well, I have now tried everything in the book to resolve this...no hope! If you are still around and willing, I would love to get your hand's-on expertise.

How do I know when its done rooting and if it was successful? I assume the horizontal line of asterisks in the cmd prompt window is the end? How do I make sure my TB is rooted alright?

go to the market , download titanium backup , hit the problems button, hit the get busybox update, when its done close the app and reopen

When I oped Titanium Backup I get an error:

"Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application wil *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again."

yeah continue , do what i said, problems, update busybox then restart the app or reboot

Ok I'm an idiot I didn't do the BusyBox update first I assume that's why I got the error?

Upon update and 2nd opening of Tit. B-up, I got another msg. though:
"Warning-system configuration: Your system settings will prevent you from restoring applications. To correct this, go to your phone's settings, then in "Applications", and tick the "unknown sources" checkbox"

However, after I "ok" out of that, next to where it says "Root access:" it says OK

Is that good?

Sweet! Thanks so much!!

I'll prolly be around the forums here and also in Droid Forums though with some stupid noob questions, lol. I still want to flash roms and what not, but don't know how to do that! I have a lot of reading to do.

Im a newbie???

Ok this is my 1st android phone i had a bb before this and i downloaded leaks all the time but with this phone i am not sure of how to back-up apps (cuz some are no longer on the market) so is there a easy way or app to do this also the bloatware do we delete that before the download or after. i am sorry i know i probably am asking the stupidest questions but i bricked a storm and then got a new one i dont want to brick my bolt i will probably DIE. lol thanks

Since I already rooted using your original method, should I do anything else now that you've added in the alpha version 2.1 and adb replacement files?

to be honest i dont know if this is any easier than the manual method, to be both are equally as easy,, you cant delete bloatware without root, even then you should either freeze them or just rename them ... or use a debloated rom...i cant promise no bricking, i have not heard anyone tell me they bricked from my method.

if you are rooted then you dont need to do anything , but thanks for checking in:)

DroidXcon,

Got around to trying again, tried once more on the same laptop with no luck. Switched to a different and got it the first try. Confirmed superuser by downloading shootme and running the app.

Been setting up my phone for about an hour and it's pretty late. Will drop you a donation tomorrow for all the hard work and support you are providing.

Thanks again!

HTC Thunderbolt Rooted

This was a breeze! Thanks guys for all the great information. I read everything out there, downloaded all the files required, made sure I knew exactly what I was supposed do and it was flawless. Join the forums, read, educate and protect your phone. Big brother won't! Peace!!!

DroidX, do you know if its possible to use the new RUU in place of your old one and update to the latest ROM? Doesn't the root process basically downgrade to allow S-OFF then install a non-SOFF RUU back to .9?

I literally BRICKED my phone after ROOTING! :-) Thanks DroidXcon! That was so much fun. Had no problem at all and hope to not encounter one ever. I love ROOTING except the BRICKING literally.

Hey, I did #1 and it said "pushing RUU" for about 15 minutes then everything disconnected and my phone never rebooted. What happened? The IMG file is clearly on the device.
