[Automated] Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.2 (Updated 12/29/12)

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.3 (Updated 1/2

I tried this a number of times and the fastboot driver does not configure. The step one works fine for the ADP driver.
When I try the step 2, the bootloader mode shows on my phone but I do not get a devide list on the CMD line.
I give up, unless you can respond quickly with what is wrong.

Manual driver instructions in post 2. The ultimatum about you giving up unless I respond quickly is in bad taste and entirely disrespectful. This isn't my job. I am happy to help when I can, but demanding help in that manner is just rude.

You're welcome! I am glad you like my tool.

Regarding OTA updates; your device needs to be stock in order for an OTA to take. They require the stock recovery, which has been overwritten by clockworkmod recovery when you rooted. It doesn't matter that your device is rooted or unlocked, all that matters is that it is no longer 100% stock since you have an alternate recovery. Plus, now that you are rooted, you might decide to make further modifications. You can flash back to stock when an OTA comes out, and then take the OTA. Or, more logically, you can just use my program to update to new android releases. The "Flash Stock + Unroot" button allows you to choose your own factory img by selecting "other". Google releases all their factory images here: Factory Images for Nexus Devices - Google Support for Nexus Phones and Flagship Devices - Google Code

So you can just download 4.0.3 yourself when it comes out, and then flash it with my program. Then re-root your device afterwards. My program will automatically extract the package properly and flash it.

OTA's are no longer necessary since google releases the exact same images on google code.

Thank you for that specific sentence. I have been looking all over forums trying to convince myself to take the dive into root :) Was afraid I'd have to wipe my phone every time an update came out. Now (I hope) you clarified it that I wont have to , just simply download the new update, and press a few buttons =)

Looking forward to your next update for toolkit where its done with 1 click.

Thank you for all of your hard work!

No, you would have to wipe. The flashing stock process would wipe your phone. But you could use my program to backup and restore your apps and data. I suppose that's the benefits of OTA's.. the fact that they update rather than reformat. To me its the same thing since I can backup and restore apps.

Regarding "my next update where its 1 click".. I don't know what you are referring too. The end user needs to make some decisions, and there are confirmations throughout the script to ensure the end user knows why they are having a problem. Version 1.0 was a one click and since then I have realized its better to add checks throughout the process.

I did exactly that, used your awesome program to back up and restore before I rooted today. Took no longer than 15 minutes... Didnt realize I had to wipe each time, but no harm done since all data is backed up :)

What I meant by the "next update in 1 click" is here:

#422. I probably made it sound too simple! The checks throughout the installation are a very good idea

Again, thank you for your hard work! Keep it up

Nice! Ahh yes.. I have accomplished that goal in version 1.3. It does exactly what I said I was trying to do when I wrote that post. :-)

It will automatically extract factory img packages and flash them.

I'm so sorry for asking this slightly dumb question, but can I use the backup applications and data before this process? I am at stock unrooted. I read the faq and every post but only one post seemed to ask this and I want to be sure before I do this. Honestly between all of us, I will probably do it either way sooner or later but I want to make sure it's all backed up.

Yes. Its not a dumb question. I should include that info in the OP.

You can backup and restore when stock unrooted and locked. You can also restore on any ROM, except its highly advised to only restore user apps and data on custom ROMs.

I recommend making both a user app backup and another one with system apps and data to ensure you can restore your data in the case that the system apps do not want to restore properly. This warning is included in the script, but repetition never hurt when it comes to preservation of important data.

Also make sure to check the file size of your backup. If its 0bytes.. then that is obviously no good.

You can also test your backup by restoring to your stock ROM prior to unlocking. It will just overwrite the same files.

During the driver configuration, I'm seeing a few mentions of "failed" which has me concerned:

Press any key to continue . . .

Is this something I can overlook? It was recognised by ADB and fastboot all okay after this anyway.

Massive kudos for this fine package you've created by the way wug!

@Hinee

Regarding drivers, either they work or don't work at all Doesn't have anything to do with the root process or really anything to do with my entire program for that matter.. just whether or not your computer can see/communicate-with your device. Unfortunately Microsoft really sucks at providing devs a consistent simple 'cross-Win-version compatible' way for installing drivers.. so the approach currently utilized in my script is in no way perfect.. which is why I still include manual instructions if it all else fail. So regarding your question specifically... no don't worry.. errors can be expected in that script. As long as you get it working that's all that matters. The entire drivers script is the part of my program I am still the least happy about. I will continue to work on new ways I could get it to work more consistently, or at the very least, I will work on providing more clear instructions/information, so the end-user is not left asking questions like the one you are asking.

Hope that helps. :-)

Happy to hear that you like my program! Enjoy!

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.3 (Updated 1/2

All good mate! After MUCH pain I got the drivers installed (why did I never think to do a simple reboot, fixes so many things!) and the rest of the program worked flawlessly.

Now finally on yakju and 4.0.2 :)
