Available Now: Droid X 2.3.340 Update Discussion (Not Gingerbread!)

One of the few features of WinMobile6 that I miss....It will be great to have it again!! Thanks for the info.

Yes I am super digging this feature!! I love it. (the search dialer that is )

open the dialer, start spelling the name of the person and Up comes their name/number!! press and Viola!! you have their call going!!

yeah I thought that was pretty neat myself, Havent had a chance to install the Madden game yet though

I did. It sort of sucks. It is just a demo, you can only be the Saints or Colts, the controls are difficult since you are playing on a touch screen, and after the Saints marched down the field and I held them to a FG, I only had enough time for about 5 plays before time expired. The graphics are decent, the play is just a little bit jittery but not too bad considering it is on a phone. If I want to play football on my phone, I will still play Tecmo Super Bowl on NESoid. I have loved that game since I was a kid!

I wish we could remove it like we could NFS Shift that came with Froyo, but it doesn't look like it. I will probably just hide the app with LauncherPro.

Out of sight, out of mind.

just root yout phone and remove it. it takes all of 5 minutes to do so. or even easier freeze it with titanium backup

I am rooted but if I remove it or freeze it, I will probably forget to put it back on or thaw it before the Gingerbread update. Honestly, as long as it doesn't continue to run in the background after exiting or start up on boot like Skype does, it doesn't bother me. If we had limited app storage, it would & I would totally do it, but hiding it will be enough....that's probably just me though.

This isn't the nexus one. My argument is and was with froyo that Droid x users and Droid 2 users can manually pull the update at any time once the files are made available. No other devices can do that. The files simply just aren't on the server right now. The users who downloaded it this morning manually did so. Only the email, text, notification of an update is rolled out.

You're right but moto also staged the droidx froyo update as well. So yes, its a staged roll out

Ok, I got the download a little after 2:00am EST. My guess is that the download was avail for a limited number and was designed to go out to the Moto Test group but only because they were informed of it. Had they kept it to themselves, they probably would have gotten it but as I (we) were continuously checking, we got in first.

So far-
Positives: Seems to be smoother overal. The major bugs seem to be fixed i.e. Text in order, music player fine, battery info not FC. I like the new dialer app and I haven't seen the VCast store on the phone, not sure if it was left out.

Negatives: Right when I loaded up I got a black screen with the notification bar. Would not change. An email came in, I selected and then backed out and got the homescreen again. It hasn't happend again for me but my friend says it's been happening constantly and he's pulled his battery 6 times today. He's headed to V Store. If it happens again, that's a worrisome bug. Downloaded the new GVoice app and while it says "bug fixes" it's definitely slower and it's not refreshing as quickly. So I'd stay away from that if you haven't already downloaded.

Overal seems better but I'd like to know if other people are seeing the black screen issue.

Also, in the stock music player, if you tap the cover art it switches to a visualizer on beat with the music. Which is cool I suppose. Was this always there?

I can tell you that I received the update last night and I am not in the moto test group. I haven't seen the black screen issue on mine. I did do a factory reset before applying the update though so maybe that will fix your issues. Everything seems great on mine, runs a LOT smoother and all the bugs I had seen to be remedied. Also, if anyone is interested, I do have the update.zip for it. I don't know how legal it is for me to say so, but I have it. PM me.

Thats what I ended up doing was freezing it as well, just need to remember to unfreeze my apps when gingerbread hits

This **** has pissed me off for good. Im tired of the MOTO rumors and slip ups about when **** is coming out. as far as im concerned MOTO can go **** it self.
this bull **** business of only letting a few thousand people get an update is ******ed. If they weren't sure about there build then they should have left it well alone.
These people are as bad as RIM blackberry.
Conversation:
[Blackberry] new update tomorrow for all phones!
[Customer] YAY!!!!!!! :)
Next Day:
[Customer] Im still waiting on that update. where is it?
[Blackberry] Oh im sorry it was for a special group of people and you aren't in it. we ask them to beta test for us.
[Customer] Get ****ed!!!!!

Id dont give a rats ass if they drop gingerbread, honeycomb, sugar cookie or any other software name they come up with.

nice first post... I'm irritated too but its not that bad. At least the updates are coming at some point. Also I'm pretty sure its Verizon that dictates how many people get the build and when.

Verizon doesnt control moto updates they just facilitate. If that were the case verizon would be able to manual push to people who didn't get the first ping to update.
