Available Now: Droid X 2.3.340 Update Discussion (Not Gingerbread!)

Installed new update last night (non-rooted). I've now experienced three random reboots. Phone screen just goes black and then a couple of seconds later the red Droid emblem screen (similar to this->
bravozero.gif
) is displayed and phone boots back up. Never had this happen previously, at all, so three times within 12 hours of the update being installed seems to point to it being something not playing nice after the update. Anyone else experiencing this type of problem?

Had a rooted 2.2, think I removed some things w/o backing up and the update would always fail to install. But after sbf'ing and wiping, it's all good now. Update installed fine, and phone def. seems a bit snappier now and new dailer is useful.

Id love to know what this update was supposed to do because I see no improvement to any of my problems. Still have issues with updating apps. Still have issues with weather not updating when on the doc and the pop mail app still wont push mail. Seems like the only change was that I have some crap I can't uninstall.

With the recent update i have noticed:

-Faster switching between home screens when multiple programs are running
-No lag or messing up when unlocking my phone
-Internet browsing is amazing, pages load in 1/2 the time
-New dialer menu
-Less force closes
*Update: I have also noticed that my phone now Vibrates while it Rings for notifications rather than vibrating followed by a ring. Its nice.
There are some other minor fixes as well such as fixes to exchange sync, visual voicemail, and they added a new data widget which honestly i haven't tried out yet. Couple new apps are preloaded one being madden NFL, its actually a pretty cool game, however you can remove it via root with TitaniumBackup or Root Explorer if you would like.

Now this is important.

The biggest thing that helped me out as far as updating my phone was a post about a month or two ago on android central's article forum. (I will search to find the original post and update this)

i noticed that when i first upgraded to 2.2 i was not benefiting fully or getting all of the features. I have tried factory rebooting but it didn't work. Until, i read a post telling me to go into: Settings>Privacy> and uncheck "Back up my data" and "automatic restore" Then perform a factory reset. When your phone resets, skip adding your google account and manually do it after your phone is done with the tutorial. This ensures that froyo is properly running on your phone and fixes ALOT of phone issues. I have helped many of friends optimize their phone and have it run they way it was intended to. Because what actually happens is Froyo and now 2.2.1 is it gets installed but actually reinstalls your previous system data negating part of the update you received. If you want to ensure that the features of the updates work properly on your phone try this method and leave those two privacy options unchecked. Hopefully gingerbread will correct this problem in the future, but until then lets work around it.

I've noticed a calendar issue which I think was there before but now seems more pronounced.
If I create an event on the phone or in Goog Cal, it syncs both ways fine. If I try to edit the event the changes do no sync either way. Tried the goog forums but they're a mess.
Also, got a random black screen reboot yesterday and the data widget doesn't update for me after it initial install.
Also had a reboot during navigation which was a big problem for me on 2.2.
Oh well.

It fixed the Camcorder issue!

Now it actually records a vid instead of just closing when I hit record.

I've heard of this method but I've been worried to try it. I don't want to lose apps that aren't available on the market anymore and im afraid of losing all my settings and starting from scratch. I think eventually ill get sick of it all and just do it. Ill wait for gingerbread. If it doesn't fix by then ill do a full dump and reinstall.

Ok...This is frustrating!

I was succesfully rooted, installed the .340 update and I am no longer rooted...I am using the linux version of doroot on my mac and succesfully rooted my droid x before with no issues.

I get an error message stating that the root exploit failed...

I have the superuser.apk on my phone still and everything..I'm not sure whats really going on. Does the exploit change base on version even though its still Froyo?

Any opinions or help would be greatly appreciated!

when you install a new OTA, you lose root access, but the SU apk stays behind. youll just have to reroot. z4root has been working for most people here.

I'm going to re-download 1.3 and try it again. It just seems too easy. Before when i tried it, i unrooted then perm rooted and it did nothing.

Edit: Maybe you have had to use Z4root originally to root your device for it to work again after the update. I used a different method with a file known as Phoxus_ -_Droid_X_Gift and VRZ_MB810_1.13.6.2_1FF_01.sbf file. (I have tried to root after update with Z4 and it "attempted to exploit to root" for about 30 minutes before i hit my home button and then it restarted my phone shortly after. When i reopened Z4 the same two options were there: temporary root and permanent root. i checked back again and a third feature unroot was there which i clicked and just repeated this cycle, it would show up when it wanted to) However, all of this aside, this noob way to root your phone is not working.

I downloaded the update last night no problems and noticed the phone is very smooth now glad they got text message issue with new messages going to bottom of list fixed and noticed that if you go to facebook mobile site at bottom of page where it used to say Download facebook for your Droid X now says Download facebook for your Magic wonder what's up with that.

ok... downloaded the OTA 2.3.340... went into recovery and started, but quickly get error:

"assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/shadow_vzw/cdma_shadow/shadow:2.2/VZW/23.15:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keys" || file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/shadow_vzw/cdma_shadow/shadow:2.2.1/VZW/23.340:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keys"
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

I'm rooted, deodexed, and themed. Haven't deleted any apps though. Am I going to need to flash to 2.2 sbf? If I do that... what's the best way to get my accounts/apps reinstalled afterwards? I have a current nandroid backup and titanium backup of my apps... just wanting to have a game plan before getting into this.

From what I've read some people were able to just unfreeze the stock Apps and install the update and some had to unroot to get the update. Then there were people who were unrooted and still couldn't get the update to work. Seems to be an individual situation for each person. Your best bet would be to backup, which you already have and do a trial and error for each method till it works for you.
Maybe somebody else with the same problem could help you out better. Search the forums.

Got my update with no problems. Noticed the new dialer function, really cool. Also, the phone rings much louder. My text sorting however is still not fixed (still lists new texts at bottom).
