Available Now: Droid X 2.3.340 Update Discussion (Not Gingerbread!)

so let's say I have a nandroid backup and have backed up my user apps and system data with Titanium Backup... once I sbf back to 2.2 and do this 2.2.1 update I'll basically have a fresh install of 2.2.1 with no apps or settings, right?

What's the process for getting my apps and settings back? Download Titainium Backup again and go from there? This'll be my first time to flash back to 2.2sbf and I need to get my email and stuff back as quick as possible.

I think maybe I've been working on a misunderstanding of what flashign back to the 2.2sbf would do. Just finished the process. It appears all my apps and settings are still here...all it appears it did was downgrade to version 2.2, remove my blackbar theme, remove deodexing, remove root, undo my pixel density change. Otherwise, all my settings, apps, screens, accounts are all still in place. Interesting. Now to see if it'll apply the 2.2.1 update.

ok well, good and bad... good... applied the 2.2.1 update quickly after sbf'ing to 2.2. Everything looks good, etc.

Bad... I have the "Triangle" icon on the status bar and can't make calls :( any idea on what is causing that?

Before any one asks I did search and I have been searching for about 5 hours now.

Here is my problem:
I narrowed it down to the fact that I removed the cardock after I
rooted the phone. You push the search button while it is uploading and
it shows you what it is sticking on .I found a CarDock.apk file in the
android central forum and installed it to my /system/apps folder and
tried again and it still failed on the CarDock part.

http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-x/41991-cardock.html

When I use root explorer the .apk file is in the /system folder.

I also followed the instructions in this forum:

droid x 2.2.1 install fails - Android Forums

And I also am getting these errors:

Error in /Cache Blur Version 2.3.15 MB810.Verizon.en.us.zip
Status 7

Any help would be appreciated.

Wow - 5 hours researching the issue. I just have to ask, is it really worth rooting a phone considering you have to spend so much time trying to resolve problems like this? I've just not seen the real value of rooting a phone, other than because you can. :D So just curious if you'd do it all over again - sorry, but no answers to you problem.

Yes I will because I like the wireless tether for free. I will how ever not delete any of the "bloatware".

have you tried the 2.2sbf? I was having all sorts of weird problems and once I sbf'd to 2.2 the update installed great... and aside from my lack of cellular service now... looks/works great.

rooting is fine, its what you do after that can cause issues. for sure, as a lot of people have found out, dont delete bloatware. rename it, freeze it, whatever. dont get rid of it, because chances are youll need it later.

for anyone else having issues recovering or installing deleted bloatware apps, applying the sbf will cure what ails you. an even easier method is to make sure that immediately after rooting on a stock rom, make a nandroid backup, and put it somewhere safe (put a copy on your PC too!) so that you can easily revert back if you need to apply an OTA update, or just need to be on stock for anything in general.

i think once you sbf, you have to re-activate your phone. dial *228 and use option 1

Dial *228 and activate your phone again. That fixed it for me.

Paulinbna - I had a similar issue. After I received the car dock error that you reported, I first wiped the system cache, then followed the instructions in the following post:

http://forum.androidcentral.com/mot...-bloatware-system-application-properties.html

Make sure you copy over the apk and the odex file. If the app has an odex file you do not have to install (skip step 5 for Car dock)

Reboot, then run the ota update again.

Or if you are traveling. The #2 option seeks the best signal (closest tower) for where you are at that time.

Hi, the X is my first smartphone and just had it a couple days now. I've been getting messages for the 2.3.340 update, but I keep putting it to install later. I'm running stock, not rooted, android 2.2 system version 2.3.151 and having no problems so far. I know it's only been a couple days, but everything seems to be working fine.
The only problems I've been having is being new to android and user error getting things setup.
Should I download the Update or wait awhile to see how the phone works with what I have now?
I'm just worried about having problems after installing the update, just from reading a lot of people having problems when installing updates. Also, I don't know what the benefits of the update will be. I Appreciate any advice.

i got the update when I woke up this morning. Madden 11, after downloading a huge update to itself, just hung, playing music with no screen inputs available. forceclosed that. Hoping for good things from the DLNA > Xbox connection.

So I'm in China so I switched from my Droid X to the Droid 2 Global with global unlimited data. I still use the Droid X for heytell via wireless tether through my global (but phones are rooted) so I get the 2.4.330 update on my D2G and don't really see a diff. But I wi-fi link the DX into my data and it gets the 2.3.340 update and is running 2.2.1! My D2G is still 2.2 but it has a completely diff. market place interface almost like it's running 2.3! IDK what the hell is going on but I really don't notice anything other than the new looking market place...

Anyone have the 2.3.340 update file to upgrade from stock 2.3.151? I cannot get the update for some reason. Please help thanks!
