Bad Wi-Fi Range

Well, I don't know if it display or not, but you can feel speed is lees in an other room,
Obviously, near the router it is great...

I'm having the same exact problem! I could get a signal anywhere inside and outside my house with my Pre but with the EVO, I get two bars at best standing right on top of the router!

Based upon what I'm seeing on the phone's display, my wi-fi range is terrible. I'm line-of-sight from my router (about 25 ft), and at best I'm getting 1 bar.

How can we accurately test to see if this is a false negative on range? Would going to a third party speed test site be accurate enough?

I never had an issue with my Pre's range, but don't want to jump to conclusions with my Evo.

I'm also having WiFi issues. Mine drops or doesn't connect at all. Once connected I ran a speed test and off downloads off 800+ but my upload was only between 1-3. What would cause that to happen. Anyone have any ideas.

I can't find anyone talking about this on the Sprint forums. We need to get this out to someone at HTC or sprint. It's definitely not just a display issue. I can shut all other radios off and march the data drop and reconnect.

I have the WiFi issue as well, sitting right next to router and see 2 bars.

Also can anyone else check there Bluetooth reception? Mine is crap. Literally holding my phone next to my ear-piece and i can still hear crackling

I noticed the crackling last night as well. When I connected my Bluetooth headset to my 3GS, the crackling was gone. I hope this isn't going to be an ongoing problem.

Very weak WIFI signal and bad 4G signal too..... only 3g is really good and consistent :(

Your connection is likely the exact same ..... its probably a display issue. Many phones have that problem when launched.

I've run the same internet speed test on both my EVO and my 3GS with wifi enabled (each phone has wifi enabled exclusively) and my EVO is at least 50% slower using the same server location.

Contact HTC to see if they will remedy the problem. The more people who do this, the more likely they will be to respond.

Here is a link to there contact page, mention this thread.

Using Speakeasy Speed Test I got on my laptop 16.54 up and 2.56 down. On the Evo (wi-fi on) I got 10.33 down and 4.11 up. Seems fine! My router is on the basement and my room is on the second floor (where I did the test) so I don't have the same problem that many of you are having. Still, the wi-fi display is showing only one (or none) bar.

I rebooted my router and still is an issue, three feet away I have 3 bars of wifi, 10 feet I have 1. I can go out to the street with my Pre and it works just fine.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you guys are actually using the speedtest apps to monitor your actual connection? It sounds like the people who are running speedtests are getting pretty decent speeds. Download either the Speakeasy app or the FCC app in the Market to see how fast (or slow) your speeds are.

In my basement I have a low WiFi signal on my EVO but my old Hero and Pre show a full Wifi signal but my EVO still loads web pages faster than the Hero and a little slower than my Pre probably because of flash.

I am using the speedtest.net app

When I'm sitting 3 feet away from my router i have 1-2 bars and I get 10Mbps down, which is good enough (my connection is 20Mbps). When I am sitting in my living room about 20 feet away I get 0-1 bar and my speeds are as low as 500Kbps which is not only bad but unacceptable since I would be better off just using my 3G where I have been averaging 1Mbps.

Its funny, this phone has by far the best 3G reception I have ever had. Its just to bad the rest of radios are so weak.
