battery life after lollipop

I just recieved mine yesterday, and the battery life is terrible. I will be going back to my s5. Today i used 24% in 4hrs, with only 43min of screen time. THats terrible. THe camera is also not even close to the s5. Acually the camera isn't much better then the htc m8. The ppl getting 5-6hrs of screen time i just can't believe that. I don't even get that with my s5 with a bigger battery. I guess i don't see why this phone is so popular seeing the bad battery and camera.

It's no secret the 2014 Moto X camera has room for improvement. People do get really nice pictures with it, but for the average user in low light, it's no iPhone, for example. If the camera is super important to you, then I would suggest that anything by Motorola likely isn't the right choice. With regard to battery life, I'm a moderate user and I easily get at least 4 hours of screen time, so I have no trouble believing there are folks out there who get more. I would hardly label the battery as "bad" for most people. If your S5 with the bigger battery isn't getting 5-6 hours of screen time, then I'm guessing you may have issues with a less-than-stellar signal. The 2014 Moto X might not be the right phone for you, but for an awful lot of folks it provides the best Android experience currently available.

Yesterday was my first full day of using my new Moto X (I updated to Lollipop Tuesday evening), and it was much better than my 1st generation X. I did quite a bit of Pandora streaming from 3G and wifi, and a good amount of browsing, and still made it through from 6AM to 11 PM. Sorry, I don't have exact numbers of screen time, but I know I'd definitely have to plug my old moto X in for awhile to go even close to that long. I'd say I was at ~12% when I finally plugged it in , mainly because I was downloading a ton of music from Google Play Access for a local cache.

That said, I wish it was better (like a Turbo, or Z3), but it's an improvement over my previous Moto X.

One thing about the old moto x (wife has one), battery life is about 30% better than it seems. Something must not be calibrated right. Because, after it gets to 1% it keeps going for another 18hrs or so. Granted she is a light user and gets 48hrs of battery before she gets to 1%. But, then she gets another 18hrs on the 1% !!!

fair enough, I did notice that it would get down to 1%, and not shut down for awhile. But I certainly never got 18hrs! At most an hour. usually much less.

I've had no battery issues at all (but I'm good at toggling the settings, turning off auto refreshes for social apps, and making sure to turn location settings off for all apps that I download). Coming from the 2013 Moto X, this seems on-par or better.

Coming from an OG Moto X that I absolutely loved, I trusted that Motorola would get the hardware cocktail right again and serve up a great phone.

After having the 2014 Moto X for nearly two months, I have to say the battery life is definitely disappointing. It was not as good as last years X before Lollipop and got no better after Lollipop.

It definitely stinks because I love my Moto Maker design!!!

I have been running Lollipop for a couple weeks. I have no complaints about battery life.So far I have always made it though the day with battery life to spare.
I would say I'm am a light to medium user depending of time of day it is.

I normally just use: weather app, email, sms text, tapatalk, hangouts,G+ ,chrome and youtube .But do use other apps those are just the main ones

I have noticed too though that Google services and Android OS are up at or close to the top of list. But with battery life being as good as its been ,not really an issue for me. :)

This is almost exactly the same experience I have with my 32GB Pure Edition I use on AT&T as well. I am a light to moderate user and have no problems making it through even my heavier days on a charge. I updated to 5.0 about a week and a half ago and it took most of the first week after the update for things to settle down in the battery life department. If I had to call it one way or the other...I would say battery life is slightly better after the 5.0 upgrade.

Yesterday mine came off the charger at 5am and at about 11pm last night I had 21% of my battery remaining with 4 hours and 17 minutes of "Screen on Time".

I have no answer for why Google Play Services routinely is the biggest battery consumer, but yesterday even with 4 hours and 17 minutes of SoT, it was the top consumer by 1% over screen.

I have also noticed that the reported remaining battery capacity is quite a bit "different" after the 5.0 upgrade. After the upgrade, it shows to discharge from 100% to about 85% fairly quickly, then shows it discharges at a slower pace after that. I really don't care because it is only intended to be like the gas gauge in an automobile...shows you an approximation of how much juice is left in the tank.

As long as I consistently get 18 hours of use with 4+ hours of screen on time...that is all the battery life I want or need.

Coming from the Note II, the Moto X (2014) and Lollipop make me want to go back. But the Lollipop experience is too addictive and I definitely have to change my habits.

From everything I've read here things should get better.

I did notice an improvement after upgrading to Lollipop, especially when in standby mode.

Sent from my Moto X 2nd Gen

Can't really compare b/c I upgraded out of the box but I've been pleasantly surprised by how little battery is used at idle. Usually around 1-1.5%/hr depending on time of day with wi-fi always on.

Well.
here's a sequence of how it went for me...
Monday: got phone. updated to lollipop.
Used on monday and tuesday, saw lots of play services/ OS battery drain. Charged monday night, tuesday night.

Wednesday night: Factory reset and charge.
Transferred all data from Nexus 5 using migrate, went smoothly... had to be patient but went smoothly.
No apps installed yet. Just GSAM, local traffic map and calculator.
Location OFF. Bluetooth OFF. NFC OFF. Restrict background data on everything I can. Screen @ 35%, auto.

Light usage of phone as you can see, but Services and OS really suck juice.

Thursday night. Charge.
Higher usage... still light.

Okay... Services and OS using a bit less.
Friday night, no charge.
10pm to 7am, went from 65% to 60%. So... 5% in 9 hours. I am happy with this. Comparable to Nexus 5. Almost as good as previous iPhone 4S.

Anyways... this is what I have at EOD Saturday.

There you have it, boys and girls. 5 days and 4 charges later:
38 hrs on battery. 1.75 hrs Calls. 3 hrs SOT. WiFi on all the time.
and 23% remaining on battery. (night time standby = 5% over 9 hrs).

Oh, and forgot to mention. LTE reception is poor at work (so sucks battery) so I have phone forced to 3G. I am on Tmobile so I dont need LTE speeds with the fast HSPA Tmobile has.

Also, a replacement is on the way since the M logo was not centered in the Cognac Leather back. And, this was really bugging me.

Another update. Standby mode battery drain.

I don't remember if I had the moto assist sleep mode on before or not. I don't think I had it turned on.

But with it on, I lose 2% over 8 hrs !!! Even better.

I'm getting at least 3hrs+ of on screen time and if I could get that than I'll be happy. Does anyone recommend a Motorola Power Pack, Turbo Charger, car charger or USB cable charger for PC/MAC or combination? I'm thinking of getting a car charger and USB cable because that's all I really need. Thanks.

So I just started using my X (32GB, Pure, 5.0, AT&T) after getting it from cyber monday. Went through my first day at work, and had very light usage and on screen time (51 minutes) and the phone is at 30% battery. Took off charger at 9am and its now after 7pm. This is insane. I'd attach links to screenshots but don't have enough posts yet.

From what I've personally experienced and read many times, the battery usually greatly improves after a week or so. Also, check if any apps are showing unusually high battery use, because not all have been updated to work well with 5.0.

thanks. on day 2 now and its just as bad, really. checked the apps and barely anything is running. nothing exceeds more than 10% at a time (Facebook or messenger can when in active use, but go back down). still under and hour of screen time use and i go down to 30% battery. hopefully closer to a week can improve the calibration, but I'm really disappointed. really don't wanna go back to my iPhone 6 this soon

Well since you mention Facebook, I have read elsewhere (there may be a thread, actually) that users have resorted to using the browser instead of the app and have experienced better battery life. I think there a possible bug in that app. I'll see if I can find a link source. Try uninstalling it for a day or two, to see if you notice a difference.

Some mentions here about Facebook: http://forums.androidcentral.com/moto-x-2014/468920-why-my-battery-life-so-terrible.html

Facebook doesn't really take up much of the battery, to be honest. Usually under 10% (at 6 right now).

Yea, today I'm at 28% battery with 59 min on screen time

Do you have enough comments yet to post screenshots of your battery usage? That is definitely abnormal behavior. I average at least 4hrs SOT and consider myself a moderate user.
