I am not sure, but the EL30 has helped my battery life. Took it off charge at 7:30am, have done some moderate use with it.. phone calls, texts, web/data usage. At 10:00pm, I still have 53% of battery life. I have never had this much battery life in this amount of time from my Epic, since I have owned it. I hope this is a good sign for EL30. Also the GPS has been working and I havent seen the major drain on the battery as I use too.

Dude....

Have you tried any custom roms?
Most of them will get you really good battery life.

I haven't jumped to el30 yet. I am still waiting for the Dev's to work their magic.....:D

Is it much different from ei22?
I'm on CleanGB MTD right now.

No, I havent tried any custom ROMS....I am leaving it pretty much stock GB...
So far the GPS is working, plus at least I have noticed it picks up faster. The anwser an incoming call is different. Instead of swyping it up to answer or down L or R to ignore. You now have to swype it right to answer or left to ignore. If you want to Ignore with Message.. there is a little tab on the bottom and you slide it up to pick your message. CIQ is also gone... Alot of people have had issues with this latest update... I got the update on the 26th and it went smoothly... So far I havent had any issues and hope it stays that way. That maybe because I dont have a custom ROM... I am not sure.

I've noticed similar improvements too. As you, my GPS has worked flawlessly, including "spot on" re-routing which occurs immediately. Only time I lose a signal is when I am under a tunnel (Lincoln tunnel, NYC). Great Job to developers for this new EL30 update :)

I too have considered trying a custom ROM but my GPS works perfectly, especially on long drives of 2 or more hours. My concern is flashing could cause other problems and risk lack of support from Sprint since rooting would void my 2-year contract. So, only if Samsung/Sprint pushes an official OTA ICS update, or some features of ICS, will I take the risk with my Epic 4G. I currently have a clean GB, version 2.3.6 Thanks :)

This seems to be the consensus of us that got working updates. Much better battery life (I've now maxed at 1d3h47m @15%), I used to get no better than 18hrs or so. Same usage patterns.
The GPS has been better (although CoPilot still doesn't work at all), and the small changes to the call answer and alarm screens are welcome once you get used to the changes. It's faster, more stable, and the need to root isn't as dire as it was before.

As a side note, if you're OK with ODIN, and you can get back to a stock build, it'll either fix whatever issue you had with a rom (wait for an update or try a different one later), or if it persists on stock, than you're "official" and Sprint will have to help you out ;) Odin leaves no trace of root, so your warranty is still in good standing.

Thank you for the kind offer. How can ODIN help me? Is there a simple "how-to'' procedure/guide that I follow to root my Sprint Epic 4G into ICS 4.0? I drive alot so GPS is a priority. Also, what is minimum available RAM should my phone have before I begin? It currently has 134mb available RAM. Thanks again.

Well, Odin won't do much for you with ICS, simply because there isn't any ISC available for the Epic at the moment. The wonderful Devs are working on CM9, and making great progress, but it's not ready for prime time yet.
What it's awesome at is installing clockwork, which then lets you install other roms, be it CM7, MIUI, or any of the many Touchwiz based ones. With the added benefit of it being able to completely wipe EVERYTHING and put it back to the way it came from Sprint (if they can't tell you rooted/romd your phone, than it's a non-issue for warranty). So once you know how to use ODIN, you can play with different roms, and know that you can mess things up very badly, and be back at square one within minutes.

I've gotten better battery life with EL30, but I have some apps frozen, even though I have been purposely NOT toggling airplane mode with power cycles. I'm wondering if the TWS bug was fixed. I had to use the EI22 GPS fix for both our Epics to get beyond "only 4 of 10" locks.
