Battery life not lasting? Your fix is in here

Just reporting back. I'm pretty sure the tip in this thread didnt help me at all today my phone still got insanely low. But then again i used heavily for part of the day. I almost complete drained the battery in about a little under 2 hours

ugghh.. my battery life is back to complete crap. 8 or 9 hours and it's down to ~20%. the real problem, is that i go to work at 7:30 and work until 5 before getting to school at 5:30 and getting home around 9. even though i have a car charger and a usb charger at work, i'm forced to charge it before going to school. i don't know if that's killing my battery life, but i have to have the phone last all day and it won't do it on its own. the only way it will make it is with a full charge at night and a partial charge before going to school. two charges a day.. every day. seriously weak.

If this initial drop is occurring after disconnecting it while it was on and charging, it may be an anomaly where the loss of power from disconnecting the adapter is causing an errant calculation in the overall charge remaining.

I can not provide any direct feedback in this instance as I am in the habit of charging my phone while it is off.

How does that work if you need to use the alarm or receive calls?

i'd reccomend picking up a spare battery and charger from ebay, i ordered one for like $15 that came with the wall charger for the battery and 2 1500mah batteries.

i figure at that price, even if they're crap, i'll have 4 batteries (stock, those two and i have the 1750mah seidio one as well) and that will get me through any day.

or it better :p

I am a little over ten hours off the charger will light to moderate use and I'm sitting on seven of ten bars for my battery. Not too bad. I was going to get an extended battery but I'm not so sure anymore.

I would hazard a guess that it does not work.

I have, maybe not so common, circumstances where the signal at my home is not congruent with normal usage. I also only average 40 minutes a month for voice calls. So in that aspect my usage of the phone probably differs greatly from the average user. I am primarily focused on data usage. Messaging is a new venture for me, so I have not explored all of its uses yet.

(An update to my previous post; http://forum.androidcentral.com/droid-incredible/10987-battery-life-not-lasting-your-fix-here-40.html#post101905)

Under the same circumstances except this time with 3G On and Wi-Fi Off. There is no idle time before beginning and still the ~93 dBm in the same location.

2:15:47 Up Time
2:15:47 Awake Time

37% Cell Standby
36% Phone Idle
13% Mediaserver
11% Android System
03% Display

Battery life went from 99% to 63% in this period of time. I found there is no need to go the long haul on this test. Under these circumstances, 3G uses up nearly 2.4 times the battery life of Wi-Fi.

took my phone off the charger tonight at 1030 and got home around 1 with 60% battery

i barely used the phone at all. checked the forum, looked at tweets once, and sent a few texts

I did this! Got them from a company called sak-gaming in Hong Kong for $13.59 and free shipping. They state to allow at least 7 to 15 business day's for shipment. After 16 business days I hadn't received my order so I emailed them and they said they probably got lost in shipping so they would send me another shipment at no extra charge to me. Three days after I notified them about not getting my order my original order arrived, go figure! Took almost a mth. The batteries are good but the charger was bad. It wouldn't charge the batteries over 50%. Now the second order arrived and I now have four extra batteries and the charger with the second order works fine. I feel terrible about getting two orders for the price of one but the charger in the first order was defective, and shipping them back probably would cost me about what I paid.
So now I've got power to spare! Oh Well!

I've been reading these forums for a while leading up to & since migrating to the incredible on opening day. My battery life has been marginal at best as I've tried the various suggestions in this thread and others on how to improve battery life. I've gotten through a full workday without a supplemental charge but I limited my "normal" use to make it. I'm almost always near a computer, so access to power isn't normally a problem (IF I remember my micro usb cord...).

On this past Tuesday, I was in a centeral room of the hospital where I work, which is place I get zero Verizon signal. I was there the entire day relying WiFi to stay connected. I HAD to charge in the afternoon to make it through the workday with enough of a charge so I could cycle home & be able to use CardioTrainer to track that ride home.

Yesterday morning, I installed Advanced Task Killer just to see what sort of impact it would have as I was in that same room again, all day. The impact was unbelievable. Where I would've had only 30'ish percent battery life previously, I had 85 percent left. My battery didn't drop lower than 70 percent until just before I left for home 10 hours after I took my Inc off the charger when I left for work that morning. I haven't even charged it yet & I still have 30 percent left.

I've read the warning threads & articles that said to let Android manage the apps & services itself & how task killers aren't helpful or even make battery life worse...

...I'll just say that wasn't my experience. For me, ATK more than tripled my battery life. I've got a lot of apps loaded...and running, apparently...so ATK has helped me manage the processes that have been devouring my battery. I had ATK ignore several apps so that I still received emails/google voice and other alerts & messages. I'll need to try & figure out what app or apps are the power hungry offenders. But for now, I'll say it's great to see my Inc finally last as long as it should.

I agree. I'v downloaded a task killer that kills task when my phone sleeps and battery life has improved quite a bit. It appears the multi-tasking is draining battery life. I was seeing 18 and 20 app running at a time for seemingly no reason

are they actually running? or "cached" ....download the app called "system" from the market.

it will tell you what is running that should be (ie system files) stuff that is running but cached and doesnt affect you battery and then actually apps running that should be if you have turned them on or are snyc apps. i bet you would be surprised on what the 'task' killer is really doing and what its bad

I'm an Android newbie so I'm not quite sure. I know that when it tells me it's killing apps, the number is as many as 20. I do know that installing the task killer has definitely helped with the battery life. I would typically be down to 20-25% by 10pm. Now I'm down to 45-50%. I'm going to continue to experiment to see if it is truely the task killer that is reason.

Are we having the task killer argument again?

Didn't I cover this about 20 pages ago? lol

Yes I did, Page 26. boom!

Better than cliffs you should post it in a new thread discussing atk so we can figure out the best method of memory and power management. That'd be sweet

Actually, I did read your comments when you posted them originally. I stayed away from ATK because of those comments & other threads I've read in other threads & sites. All I know is that I installed it and my batterylife has been significantly better.

The logic & articles totally make sense auto why ATK shouldn't help...but it just seems to be helping me in my real-world usage. I'm still assessing as to if there's some other factor making the difference.

Facebook for HTC Sense

Ok, so I got the Incredible the day it came out and have been getting absolutely atrocious battery life (nothing unusual, I've been on these forums since I ordered the phone and everyone has). Lately it's been bugging me enough to actually take some time to investigate why it's so bad. This is my first Android phone and after some exploring, I found out that there are two timers in Settings>About phone>Battery named "Up time" and "Awake time." I realized that my phone was literally ALWAYS awake. I installed Advanced Task Killer, had it kill everything it said was running, and my phone was still always awake. After reading about how buggy ATK can be, I started looking through the applications in my phone in the settings menu and found that I have two Facebook apps (Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense) and didn't remember seeing one of them in the list of running apps in ATK. I force stopped Facebook for HTC Sense, locked my phone for ten seconds and checked the battery timers again. Low and behold, the "Awake time" meter was ticking along ten seconds behind the "Up time" one.

Now, I'm sure the battery life on this phone isn't great. And, me being a total newcomer to Android, you may have all figured this out by now. And, since I just figured it out and wanted to tell everyone so badly (you've all taught me a lot about Android on these forums, even though this is the first time I've posted), I don't even know if it helps. But if the phone is literally never sleeping, I feel like this will have some effect.

Anyway, I'll give it a full charge tonight and see if I get more battery life tomorrow.

Agreed, good or bad for the phone, task killers do seem to help.
