I too found out if you're in a fringe area of 3G / 4G that the constant switching of the radios will kill the battery. Best to turn off the LTE at that point.
I've been on 4G all day today and I'm at 60%. Going on 8 hours and 31 min. Took some pictures, video, couple of texts and a little bit of calls. Streamed music for just a little bit and listened to a downloaded podcast.
WiFi turned off, GPS on, Bluetooth off, rock solid 4G signal the whole time. Very pleased.
