Battery Life Thread

8 hours in a day and 4 hours from 100 to 25% is pretty damn insane. Though I guess its doable I think the key is to check your phone less frequently(drains battery faster) but with a longer duration every time you do.

In regards to the statistics Aquila has posted, we don't know how many people are actively trying to save their battery or how many start at 100%. But it has like the average sot at least.

I did get 5hr9min of SOT time in 2 days and 9 hours from 89% to 14% battery in my last charge. I've never fully charged it to 100% and I usually start charging around 10%(+ or - 5%) because I heard its not good for the overall battery lifespan. Charging my phone now though and I'm gonna see how much I can get from 100% to 5-10%. Though I wonder if its okay to charge my phone every 2 days instead of one in the long run. hmm

Here's where I'm at.

So today I got 6 hours screen on time when I plugged in at 13% battery left. About a little under half of that the screen brightness was at 98%. I do that when watching movies or TV shows, and sometimes forget to turn it down. Rest of time was at 50% brightness. This phone just keeps ticking.

Spotify + Maps at the same time via BT, Internet, messages,UTube, camera , Ok Google, phone calls just using everything 0 issues today.
Was concerned I might need to charge in the car tonight but unnecessary made it Thur a long day

Yeah, this thing impresses. To start with, this is the first time I've ever hit 7 hours of screen time on a phone. Sure, it was only over 12 hours of the charger, but 7 hours is 7 hours

Now, that was just mostly to see how far it would go, in a more day to day

This is easily the longest legged phone I've ever used... By a wide wide margin.

Looking at a lot of battery review articles, both versions are really good, and it seems that the Pixel 2XL has 1 more hour of battery life overall when it comes to continuous web browsing. That's really good. Despite the washed out look and blue tint which shouldn't be a big deal to most people, that would definitely make the Pixel 2XL worth it, along with the 6 inch screen and 4x resolution.

Man I ordered a Pixel 2 and a Pixel 2XL though, with the Pixel 2 at 128GB for the price of Pixel 2 64GB on ebay and the 2XL from google store. Truth be told, I was thinking about cancelling my Pixel 2XL order, but now I'm gonna give one to my mom. She's not gonna use anywhere 128GB of storage though, but that extra battery life on the 2XL though.. shoot. Makes my nearly 4 year old Nokia Lumia 1020 on 2 hours of web browsing from 100% to 0 a joke. lol I guess I'll have to see how both are. My 2XL will be coming next week, and the 2 should be coming 9 days from now.
The screen really isn't that bad. The blue tint is there but hardly impacts any real world usage scenario. As far as the colors are concerned you can now with the patch make it saturated if you want so that's a non issue.

quick question, to summarize... So a regular, slow charger, take it off the charger when it's on 100% and don't recharge again until 20 25% will yield better battery longevity? ( don't mean battery usage time between charges, I mean overall longevity life of the battery)

Like I mentioned in the other thread, the Pixel 2 ramps down rapid charging at around 65%, slowing to a trickle 90 and above. Using a 'slow' charger, rather than the one included in the box, won't give you much of anything besides a slower charging phone.

I did reduce my brightness at night for about 2-3 hours when I was watching a movie in a dark room but usually my brightness was 50 percent with auto brightness enabled.

Mine did ok. (tongue in cheek)

Battery life has been abysmal. Google Play Services keeps eating away at a 15-20% usage. Reboots only work for about an hour, and it goes right back.
Google really needs to make battery usage transparent. If an app keeps using Google Play Services, I want to know about it and not play whack a mole.
I called Google Fi support for an escalation. No reason they should make a customer do their troubleshooting for them by guesswork.

Do you have a auto-updates on for apps? I have it off and when 20 or 30 need updating and I am on wifi I'll let updating run. Maybe you have lots of apps and they are always updating. I think some apps update, just to get them back on your radar and start using them again.

One big difference from my note 5 it would take a good 30 minutes to update ~20 apps. On the pixel, the same number update in about 2 minutes. That is the biggest difference in processor speed I have noticed since the upgrade.

Last night on my xl I had the phone off the charger 17 hours 4 and a half on screen with 35%left when I plugged I went to bed. I have it at 50% brightness with adaptive and only turn off GPS cause I don't really use it. So I am happy.

Well, 1 and 3 matter WAY more than any of the others. And the number of apps doesn't matter. The quality of those apps do (in so far as how they manage wake locks, use battery, etc)

How would signal strength and screen brightness cause Google Play Services to keep eating away at a 15-20% usage on his phone?

It wouldn't. I was just responding to @micaworks post and pointing out that - in general - one's display brightness and one's signal strength are 2 of the most important factors in battery life.

Lots of things affect battery life of course. 1 runaway app or service can definitely cause problems.
