Battery Life

Foxbat....I know this is a battery post, but you mentioned you connected your phone's SIM card to your watch? How did you do that? I have the Gear S and don't want to use the phone number that came with it. The only way I am able to use my Note 3's phone number is via Blue Tooth or remote connected...both of which only work when the phone is within like 30 feet of my watch, so I can't leave my phone at home and still use it's phone number. Please assist me. I can't locate any info on this forum regarding that.

Thanks buddy!

Brian

Can you tell me how you connected your watch to your phone's SIM card? I want to leave my phone at home, but use its phone number, instead of the new watch phone number. Only with Bluetooth and remote connected can I get that to work, but the phone has to be nearby. Thanks buddy!

Standalone may have a better battery but won't you loose you emails and notifications and have to
Give everyone a new number ?

Unlike most users I only have one SIM card and it is in the Gear S as a standalone unit (my only cell phone). Notifications work, but I didn't set it up for emails (don't use them on my cell phone).

You can set the phone to Power Saver Mode like this:

Power saving feature
Save the battery power by limiting the Gear’s functions. In power saving mode, the Gear
performs the following:

• Displays colours on the screen as grey tones.
• Deactivates features excluding phone, messages, and notifications.
• Deactivates the mobile data connection.
• Deactivates the Wi-Fi feature.
• Limits the performance of the Gear’s CPU.

On the All apps screen, tap Settings → Power saving → Power saving mod
e → Enable
Power saving mode. To deactivate this mode, tap → Disable Power saving.
To set the Gear to connect the mobile network, tap → Mobile networks.

After a week of use, I am even more convinced the Gear S is NOT a replacement of the smartphone. Am I disappointed? No because I am still able to get 3 hours a day with heavy use with music, standalone text, and email...that I couldn't with my Gear 2. Even though my battery decreases 50% during that heavy use period, I can still make it to the night with the rest simply with notifications; the rest I can use my phone.

I love the battery for my use. Unplugged at 6 had to reset the Gear cause of a bad app download around 10 used wifi to redownload Texas Here map and all day us. 16.5 hours few calls plenty of text all notifications down to 2%. Even have the display timeout to 5 mins for the map download so I could have the screen on to monitor download and forgot to change back to 15 secs so was like that for maybe 4 hours. I think the battery stood up exceptionally well.

Turn off all the motion stuff reportedly saves a lot of battery. Right now, I have no problem with battery as long as I'm connect to host phone via BT. It is around 20% off for about 10-hour usage. Very good in fact. The problem rises when you step away from the phone and has to use mobile data for remote connection. That can easily consume 10% per hour or more. Hope Samsung can really optimize that in future firmware update.

I'm having the same experience as foxbat121. After my first normal day just using the S bluetooth paired to my Note and not playing around with it for the hell of it, I'm at 88% at 6:30pm. IMO, intentionally cycling down the battery a couple of times helps with duration.

Going 14 hours now. Been at church retreat, hiked, made several calls and text. Everything on except wifi now at 24%. Thought I'd need my cradle but nope. All good.

So Ive had the S for about a week. I cant go a full day on a charge. I want to use this thing as I would normally use my phone, so I have:
WIFI - on
BTooth - on
Mobile Data - on
gps - on
remote connect - on
brightness - auto
health - on
auto screen - 15 sec

To me this is a typical use for most of us with a % of the day away from my phone, but no music streaming (gotta compromise somewhere). I cant make it a day. Any suggestions on small compromises to get through the day?

I end the day at greater than 50%. I use it mostly for notifications and mostly for messages... That said a couple of things I suspect drained a lot of battery the first few days.
1) Get rid of any background image.
2) Go a simple text clock face. Mine has the clock, notifications, and events.
3) I don't use wifi- and I think it is overkill

I really think that rendering the extra data for a bright color background eats up a lot of battery, but that said I haven't tested it.

Also, how many minutes do you spend talking via the watch?

Been off the charger at 7:30. Same moderate use no change and amazingly at 68%. Wow

Off charger from 9am. 14% left at 11:10pm.

Mobile - auto
Bluetooth - on
WiFi - off
Wake motion - off

Well I turn off all motion I think it's pointless anyway. If I'm going took at my watch I can press one button to see it not a biggy. So that saves b life right there.

Also i don't turn on Bluetooth on it. There's been conflicting effects of that through other comments here on ac but for me it seems to extend my battery life throughout the day 10 fold. I truly can get 2 days.

Lastly I really only use it to

*check texts and reply. (forwarded)
*answer calls or make them
*see my pedo steps
Check the time and temp.

I have all other notifications turned off. Don't really need them.
