I dunno if I am just being nit picky or not, but while the rep at Best Buy was activating my phone, he pulled off the clear blue plastic stickies that were on the silver trays for the SIM card slot and micro sd slot. He said he removes them because they can melt.

Is there any adverse effect of removing them outside of it being a little sticky to the touch now.

It might sound stupid, but I'm almost tempted to exchange the phone for another one cause he did that.

I hate it when store people do that. It would be like buying a new car, and when the dealer was preparing it for you they steam cleaned it to remove the new car smell because they think it's bad for you.

I'm not sure of the answer to your question. But, I will say this, I HATE when a rep takes the plastic off MY device. Just place the SIM in the device, and power it on, then make sure it can receive a call. I'll do the rest :)

Yep, OCD a bit?

I'm with you. I don't let anyone do anything to my gear when I purchase it. Give me the box and I can unpack it and do the rest. And I will do it better. If the fellow had done that to a phone I was buying it would have never left the counter nor the money from my pocket.

Wow, happy I am not the only one that feels this way. It is like someone else is opening up my Christmas gift. Then when I say something, they look at me weirdly like I have a problem or something.

i dont think your suppose to take them off.. i think theyre there to keep dirt out

They always put the case and the screen protector on too.

I do like the Best Buy Mobile folks at my local store for their help in applying the screen protector film with no bubbles.

l let them set it up, if there a scratch then they bought it..:D

I guess that I am not the only one who feels that way. I would rather do that myself, to make sure that it is done right.

I tottaly agree with yall about not letting anyone set up my phone... I like to do it myself just to be sure its done the way I want it.... Thank God Im not the only one.... I mean we are are paying top $$ for OUR devices, right???:)

That's probably a rep that used to work in a different department some where. A lot of TV's or monitors, or really any electronic, come with plastic films that cover the glossy bits. They're there to make sure it doesn't get scratched during shipping. When I worked in computers, when we first started getting tablets besides the iPad, a few came with that kind of thing on the back or bezels. For customers that were taking the tablet out of the box right away, I'd explain what those were for and ask if they wanted me to take it off and throw it out for them since they'd be using it right away. A lot of people said yes, very few liked keeping them.

That said, those blue films on the SIM/MicroSD card slots are located in a way/place that shouldn't be a problem to leave it. Maybe it's some habit the person developed from a different department.

That's a great explanation and makes sense.

I am usually really picky about such things, but I was on my lunch break and didn't really pay much attention when he did it.

My thinking is that Samsung put them on there for a reason, and not to just cover something for shipping purposes. Being that they are on the inside, they are there to serve a purpose.

Plus the top of the silver covers are sticky now from the left over glue.

Yes I do realize I am probably being overly OCD, it's just the odasity of the dude to just start taking things off the phone that is really irking me.

I like the analogy Quantum made in this thread about steam cleaning a new car and removing the new car smell.

I'm gunna sleep on it, but I'm thinking I might exchange it in the morning. I just feel violated in some way. Hehe

Nah, the better car analogy is when they take off the plastic covering on the wheel covers or sometimes the solar chargers that keep the battery charged in transit. You do realize they wash the car and put in a tank of gas too right? Would you rather they not?

Come on, none of us are newbies buying our first smartphones. If it bugs you that much, tell them when the box comes out of the drawer and they're starting to prep it. No big.

Also do they take it in a back room and secretly remove all the coverings? No, they do it right in front of you. Just say something!

I ended up exchanging it this morning. It really did bother me that much.

This time I asked the rep to not even take it out of the box, just do the exchange. She was cool about it and said no problem.

So now I don't feel violated anymore and have the fresh phone smell again. :)

If there is a moral to the story, I guess it would be try not to be so OCD as I am, and to make sure you get things done right the first time as you want them to be.

When ATT did both of my of my phones they let me unbox it and they let me pull the plastic off of it. To me its a respect thing. BUT I asked them to change out the SIM for me. But they gave me the choice. Some people are just morons. Plus part of the fun of having the newest device are the small things...Like opening it up! Sorta like Christmas morning IMO. :)

My local ATT store was great about it. So I don't deal with our local BB. Because they are sometimes just as you said...Outta line IMO.

But just as a warning. If you have a good device that works and has no working issues...IF you return it then you place your self in what could be a hellish issue. Getting a bad device. Take what they did with a grain of salt and move on if its a perfect device in your eyes. Just shop else way in the future and call and complain to the manager. That's what I would do if you felt disrespected.

Just a last minute thought!

Cheers! Hope your enjoying your S3.

I always prefer to do it myself. I don't like anyone touching my phones. Multiple times when reps were doing something to my phone, they would place it smack down on it's screen on the desk with no care in the world... And I sit there in horror asking myself how they could be so careless to just plop it down like that. I don't want scratches and I do EVERYthing in my power to not scratch them.

A few months back AT&T got into hot water. Someone returned a Skyrocket, and AT&T RE-SOLD it without sending it off, etc. On the device is had porn photos from the person who had it before...

So, now when AT&T sell you a phone, they open the box IN FRONT of you. Have you noticed? Gone are the days they come from the back with the seal already broken...

Just one more reason for preordering and having it sent home.
