Be careful buying usb type C cables

That's 100% incorrect. Just because it's a third party doesn't mean I HAVE to support them. That's where your statement falls apart. I'm not saying only buy official, but if the price is exactly the same (along with everything else), what am I gaining from the third party? except the chance that it could ruin your device or cause a fire. I bet my salary that if one of these crappy cables ruins your device, you're not going to run back to the cable company to replace your device for free, you will go to google.

Good aftermarket vendors not only provide options for quality parts, but keep OEM prices somewhat reasonable. But that's your choice.

Nope. Same vendor. It's $6.00 more than it was 2 weeks ago.

Yep you are right, for some reason I thought it was someone else. Just double checked and that's the vendor I got it for 14.99 a few weeks back. Order now at 20.99 and you can get it just in time for Christmas!

We don't always have a lot of choices. I live in Mexico and ordered my Nexus 5X from a company in New York by way of Amazon.mx. When I got it I discovered it the phone had originated in the United Arab Emirates and the charging plug would not plug into the socket here in Mexico. Adapter plugs aren't readily available in Oaxaca, Mexico, but I found one. I wanted some USB micro to USB c adapters and there is only one source in Oaxaca. Apple. Insanely expensive, of course. So, I got on line with Amazon again.

Amazon.com in the U.S. had the adapters I needed approved by the Google tech and every single one said, "Will not be shipped to Mexico." So, I went to Amazon.mx. I ordered two that came from the U.S. and they arrived in four days. They aren't on the list of approved items but they work. I don't use them on "fast charging" but I don't really need or trust "fast charging". I used the adapter with my power pack that I carry with me and with my older USB micro charging plugs and cables. Works fine.

I wanted a few more adapters--one for the car charger, for example--and the brank I'd already bought had moved to the not being shipped to Mexico list. I ordered others from two sources. They're coming from China and will be here in a month...maybe.

I'm rarely "cutting edge" and so far I don't like it. I do like my Nexus 5x and Android N, though.
