Be on the lookout for IMM76Q OTA

There is no new baseband. The difference between IMM76K and IMM76Q is the dumbed down search. The i515.09 or .10 is just the hardware version.. the baseband radio files are still FC04 and FC05.

This. 9 v. 10 is simply a hardware revision; both are listed because of that discrepency. The FC## baseband is exactly the same as IMM76K. Also, there was a rumor that the next radios (found within the source code, but I sort of doubt this) are "FF##".

From what I've gathered, this is simply to get around any sort of patent issues with search. Could it be more? Quite possibly. Is it JB? No.

But what do I care if I haven't been having any issues with signal since IMM76K?

I'm so happy that everything is working perfectly for you. Now all you have to do is flash a JB ROM and you can have the best of both worlds. As for me, I'm already running JB on my GNex but I have the aforementioned signal issues. So, even though JB is fantastic, I'd rather have quality signal first. What good is an (awesome) OS if it's not usable because the network connection is constantly dropped

If you can root and backup using TB BEFORE unlocking the boot loader, sure, show me the way. Otherwise, it's too late. Not worth losing all my Angry Birds progress just for Google Now.

There was actually a tool available--I believe it was called "CASUAL"--that allowed you to root without unlocking the device. Unsure if it works for 4.0.4, but it was working for 4.0.1/.2.

Also, in my experience with JB it's a big time advancement over ICS. I couldn't imagine running anything else to be quite honest.

If it gets better for EVERYBODY then why would you complain? Did you consider that new radios, or this, may in fact be the stepping stone to JB? Or that this update has been in the works for long before JB has been announced?

But there's nothing new in this update except for gimped search. XDA took a look at the OTA leak and found nothing new except for a different search .apk and some padding files that simply change the version numbers and build dates.

I heard somewhere that Wug's toolkit will backup your device before unlocking the bootloader. Is this true?

Yes, it will. I have not used that function personally but I'm sure others have and can chime in. Wugs toolkit is a phenomenal piece of software and is very, very powerful and flexible.

Theres an app on the market that backs up your angry birds progress.....just sayin... :)

Plug your phone into PC and transfer your sdcard to your PC. Then your backed up and free rom factory wipe and unlock and root.

Not that easy for app data. App data isnt stored on your SD card.

This whole thing kinda drives me nuts, even though it doesnt pertain to me as im rooted and running JB already. the GSM Nexus is in the process/has already been updated to JB OTA while Verizon is just now getting ready to push out an ICS update. I hope those of you that bet in the other thread that JB would be on our VZN Nexus by august/september didnt actually bet money, you're gonna be disappointed.

If you've ever tried to beat all 4 Angry Birds games, you'd know exactly why.

Other than Now, JB only offers performance tweaks. I can live without those if my only other option involves deleting everything and having to start over AGAIN.

haha, I felt the same way about Defender II, but eventually gave in.

Yeah I'll stay on jellybean goodness I have great signal on WiFi and 4g no reason to go back to ICS.

Fwiw.. If there is ever a new radio, update, or something like that, we will post a flashable version in the root section. You'll never have to go back to stock to receive anything ;)

By the time they get radios fixed and things tweeked there will be another Nexus on the market. Verizon needs to move a lot faster .... 6 months is an eternity with cell phone technology. I don't really understand why we can't get direct updates from google....why do we have to wait for Verizon?....I'm not a phone techie so I don't understand.

Because the CDMA stuff is proprietary. It's not open source in any way, shape, or form.

That doesn't mean anything. It wasn't available on AOSP (the Android Open Source Project) because it's not Open Source (otherwise it wouldn't be called that). Phone devs are given everything required to make CDMA phones. It has nothing to do with the licensing of the code.

Some of radio software is tested--and AFAIK--"owned" by the carrier. Source didn't have radios, it merely had binaries. When there's an OTA, the radios/baseband will be included (in theory). Verizon has the rights to the stuff that let's you on the network, or at least that's how I understand it.

Verizon owns the code for devices that access their network. They have decided (probably due to their licensing agreements) that this code is not available.

Not that it matters but, I believe Qualcomm actually 'owns' the CDMA licenses rather than Verizon. But yes they are not considered open source.
