Best buy demo units

i have to go best buy and look at both phones I can't make up which 3 I want ,the color I know .

I went by 2 different Best Buy stores today and I noticed that the colors on the Pixel 3xl were washed out compared to my Pixel 2xl and the regular Pixel 3. The display settings were set the same, Adaptive. My pixel 2xl has a setting called Boosted but on the new phone it is replaced by Adaptive.
I pre-ordered the 3XL but now I am not sure if I am going to change it to the regular Pixel 3.

Has anyone else noticed this?
I will post a picture and you will notice that the colors are less vibrant, it is worse in real life.

Thanks bhatech for getting the word out and to you and Mike for sharing pictures.

Stopped by Best Buy this evening. I really didn't expect anything to be out yet, as when the Pixel 2 came out it was nearly 2 weeks before they had their display up. But lo and behold, they had the pixel 3 in black and the 3XL in not pink on display

I've been considering the Pixel 3, as I'm wanting a smaller form factor coming from a Note, I loathe the notch trend and I especially didn't like seeing the leak rumors turn into reality with that deep notch on the 3XL. Having seen it tonight, I have to agree as others have mentioned that it's not as bad in person. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's bad, but after seeing it in person and spending about 10 minutes with them both side by side, I'm leaning towards the 3XL now more than the smaller 3.

The phones look and feel like a more solid build.

The screens are gorgeous. The blue tint isn't as noticeable as the 2XL (is no longer an issue and up to standard with other phones regarding an off-axis view). I do agree with marcocb8 regarding the 3XL seeming a little washed out right next to the 3. On its own though, I didn't notice or think "what a washed out screen" on the 3XL.

The bigger concern was the front wide angle lens (I'm going to figure out a way to make use of this for landscape [non-selfie] images). This is where I noticed something different (even though the front lenses and sensors are to be the same in both phones)...

I'm not going to say exactly which did what yet as I don't want to create bias, but if you go to test both phones out, play with the front wide angle lens on both phones, making sure to toggle the portrait setting (top left) on and off with various images, and also to ensure no excessive smudge on either. *Pay attention to the difference in contrast and exposure between the front wide angle lens on the 3 vs the 3XL*, and please share your findings here.

Bear in mind these are demo units and I only spent 10 minutes with them. So... it could be nothing. But... I'm really curious if anyone else also notices what I found in my experience.

All that said, I'm looking forward to upgrading to one of the two soon.

Went to BB this AM - looked at both phones - came home cancelled P3 - ordered XL - whoever started this thread owes me 100 big ones.

Im going to go out on a limb and say something is wrong with the settings or it is defective if you found the display washed out.

Thanks for the feedback, let's hope that mine will arrive with a good screen.
I have been happy with the screen on the 2XL. I still think that the IPhone Xs Max has a way nicer screen then the pixel 3 to my eyes, I really like the true tone feature but I cannot live with an IPhone.

whoa! didn't know they would already have demo units out! time to go best buy!

And they actually have a decent display set up compared to when they had the Nexus 6P, OG Pixel, and Pixel 2. It's not as big as Samsung but it was a decent setup of Pixel 2s and 3s. That was at my local store. The store where I work in Manhattan probably had a bigger display.

I don't know if I want to call it washed out but I did observe the Pixel 3 screen was more saturated compared to Pixel 3 XL. Both are on adaptive display mode and just open Google calendar and you will see events highlighted in different color and I can see the pixel 3 screen is more saturated than 3 XL.

For me it was the other way round, that actually made me push my choice more towards the XL as it looked more accurate compared to 3. Also, if you just check them out standalone without next to each other I don't think you will have the washed out feeling.

Could be due to panels from different OEMs or also a result of resolution difference. Not entirely sure but either way just on their own both Pixel 3 and XL displays look stunning to my eyes.

Yeah it is probably not a big deal. My 2XL always had a great screen though. I bought it 5 months after release so they probably fixed it.
I don't know why they changed the mode from boosted to Adaptive, I wonder if the adaptive part adjust the color vibrancy on the fly so maybe depending on what was running, it changes.

I was just expecting a way better screen then my 2xl, at least everyone is saying that but it is not to my eyes, not even the regular 3.
As long as the touch sensitivity in the corners is OK then I am fine with it, and as far as I can tell it is much better then my 2XL. I always had some issues pressing the keys all the way in the corners.

Visited my local BB a bit ago and played with both. Smaller Pixel 3 is perfect for me. The screens on both are much better than both Pixel 2 and 2XL. I did notice that the smaller Pixel 3 shifted to pink and the XL to blue. Shift was more disturbing to me on the smaller Pixel. Verizon store across street also had display models and same results. But the shift was much less pronounced than on most Pixel 2 XLs I've seen.

I could not look for black crush because the phones weren't connected to internet.

Hopefully my smaller Pixel 3 won't have terrible pink shift :/ I hate hate hate pink shift. Considering all 3 Pixel 3s had it to some degree, I'm concerned.

If the difference is really $4 per month, IMO a person would be nuts to go for the smaller one without another reason to pick smaller.
