Best Buy Finally Called and Asked Me To Return The GN

Highly doubt that. They'll go after Bb for bigger cash then him.

It's not about the money it is about the fact that this device hasn't been certified for the network yet. There are issues with it and Verizon. Pre release devices have experienced network connectivity issues and none of us are network engineers so we don't know what the phones may be doing to impact the network. I'm not saying for sire that's the problem but we can't rule that out. As much as we don't want t to be the case Verizon had a reason for delaying the launch of this device and it was NOT Google wallet.

::sigh:: you must be bworley50's kin.

No but I do recognize that he is one of the few in this thread who actually knows what he is talking about because he lived a similar situation.

"...because we want to make sure you don't have a faulty phone." Yeah. This is where any sympathy I have for Best Buy goes away. Listen, I'd return it if I knew it was going to cost someone their job. I think that's the right thing to do. But the fact that they pull out BS lines like that about how they are doing it for the customer's sake just pisses me off. It has nothing to do with bad software or faulty devices...they sold a device they weren't supposed to, are feeling the heat because of it, and lying to the customer to induce a return. I'd have a hell of a lot more respect for a rep trying to get a phone back if he looked at me and just honestly said "look, we really shouldn't have sold it. We're really getting reprimanded because of it, and the situation becomes a lot easier for us if you return it."

I agree I flat out told them this. If he was in trouble ill sell it back no questions asked. "No no he's fine, its the software" they all looked like they were in a panic and even had my contract just sitting on the counter for when I came in. Everyone there knew what was going on and they were all whispering to one another trying to formulate a plan on how to get me to give to to them.

I did, however, agree to give that info to Motorola's President of International Trade Secrets, as I was asked to join a conference call with Verizon's Head of Corporate Security and him to resolve the matter.

So where's the part where you gave your IMEI number to President Obama?

Good work my friend. You brought it back on good faith, they wouldn't even give you the courtesy of any type of discount or offer for your troubles. . .glad you walked away, they did get what they deserve in this case. I'm sure you can return the phone (once they actually release them) as it would still most likely be under warranty. You did the right thing, BB (as usual) proved they are a bunch of morons. Long live the Galaxy Nexus Unicorn!

Here is my video Unboxing, thanking Best Buy mobile for selling me the phone in advanced.

WOW!!! 1:15am EST and OP finally tells us!!! YAY!! battery is at 9%. Can't feel the pads on my index finger screw you F5.

It WAS A TRAP!!

And btw, you have no legal obligations, which is why there was no police officer there waiting for you. You purchased the device. You didn't pick it up at the bar. You didn't sell it months early (er, wait!) to an online magazine. And no, Verizon won't BRICK it. Sounds like it might have a poor screen calibration issue? Tmobile and some of the other GS2's on carrier networks had it.
Some T-Mobile Galaxy S II Models Suffering From Poor Screen Calibration?
Anyway thanks for allowing me to go to sleep. Oh crap battery is at 7%.
Now that BB screwed you or wouldn't even budge, it's TIME TO DO A FULL VERIZON LTE REVIEW OF THE PHONE (w/video!)
have a big sign on the side saying "Thanks to Best Buy for letting me purchase this early. Without you it would have never been done." and then the address.

There aren't that many test devices also they most likely would have had to be sent back now if release is imminent.
PS. Bricking does not always mean it can't turn on. I can be bricked in a bootloop

The test devices will have the new software by now, negating the problem.

How do you know most demos aren't activated? I know the one I saw was.

The one I saw today wasn't. Also there have been posts in various places mentioning both activated and not activated. Most of the ones people seem to be seeing are taken out of retail boxes at places like Radio Shack and Best Buy.

Makes me wonder how the bionic got approved.

Bionic has connectivity issues yes but the phone itself wasn't adversely effecting the network. Some of the stuff floating around during the outage last week sated that activating demo GN's was part of the cause of the outage (don't personally believe that, bit you never know).

Ya Id have a tough time taking it back at all, probably the only reason would be if someone was going to be fired. But then to have them treat you like ****, no way Id return it, but with that screen issue I liked what someone else said, return to a different best buy tomorrow. But you got 30 days no way Id return it until the official release happens

Sigh...Verizon is not going to blacklist the phone...Verizon doesnt care that 10 got sold or however many it is...Verizon is pissed Best Buy a major retailer broke their contract with them and most likely told Best Buy they have to pay contractual damages for allowing them to be sold. Best Buy is trying to mitigate that problem and most likely some employees/managers might be heading to the unemployment line.

Best Buy wants the phone back NOT Verizon...because I am kinda sure that Verizon has his number...I am sure they would call if they did.

I never said that Verizon was contacting him or even told BB to contact him I was directly addressing the point that me made that VZW would never blacklist a phone and providing a situation where they would.

I went to best buy to deal with this in person and spent two hours there trying to negotiate even the smallest of reward or gift card or even a discount on something else and they wouldn't do it. I spoke to a manager and three reps. All were freaking out about it and had a look of fear in their eyes needing to get the phone back "Because we want to make sure you don't have a faulty phone" but in reality, I could tell someone was in trouble. I told them, work with me and I'll return it. I spend an hour and a half activating the phone and trying to purchase, an hour total drive time dealing with this and the two hours trying to negotiate the return, and they wouldn't work with me. Not even a $50 discount on anything. they tried to push the razr on me. I said "If you can discount it, you have a deal"they wouldn't, then I said I might consider if they had the 32 Gig iphone 4s which they didn't and said all they could do is order me the 16 gig to pick up tomorrow. I said I didn't want it and the guy said he would call me back tomorrow. I told him not to waste his breath and I won't be returning. then I left.

The only problem I face now, Is I did notice a screen defect where you can see burns in the screen on low lit setting and while on white backgrounds. It's like 4 or 5 burn lines from top to bottom of the screen. I might just take it back for a refund as now that I notice the problem, I don't want to be stuck with it.

BB was making it sound like this phone isn't coming out anytime soon and they were trying to do me a favor and protect me from the "Software Problems" that have delayed the phone. I asked flat out if the rep who sold it to me is in any kind of trouble and they said no. So I don't know what the deal is. I can tell you the guy I was dealing with tonights face dropped when I said no and walked out.

If you really want to screw with them, when he calls back tomorrow tell him that Verizon has contacted you and they would like you to meet with their Regional District Manager. See if this motivates them to compensate you for the return of the phone.

Then stop saying Bricking. Or Brick. Or any derivation thereof. Because that IS NOT THE SAME THING!*

*To everyone else: Sorry about the shouting. It seems its the only way to get this through.

Dude settle down I already clarified in another post. I was taking bworleys term and yes I know it is not the same thing.

Growing up did you always want to be bworley's personal cheerleader or is it you are just happy to have a job in a tough economy?

Can't make a valid point so you resort to personal attacks... gee that's mature.

If you read my post history and his you will find that we disagree quite often, most recently in http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-nexus/139536-vzw-employee-view-delay-16.html about Google Wallet being the cause of the launch being pushed back, but in this thread i think he is dead on.

Most of them have not actually been activated yet. I saw one at the store today and it was over wifi.

That is not an accurate assessment. There have been numerous posts by many retailer SMEs that activated their stores demo units. If they are running wifi, that's more likely by choice, than actual need. Which may or may not be related to the phone. Case in point, my nearest retailer uses wifi more often than not, on their demo units, more than LTE cuz they have a huge issue w/ LTE connectivity inside the store. LTE signal spends more down time more than up on any given day.

They asked you to take it back. Now you have an obligation to do so. I would do it. There is NO downside to returning it, but for the loss of use of it for a few days.

If they asked him to jump off a cliff, would he be under some sort of "obligation" to do it?

THEIR mistake. THEIR problem.

First, I'd ask them what kind of deal they would offer me.

THEN (and only then) if I LIKED the deal, I'd ask them what time they were planning on swinging buy to pick it up.

But there is precisely ZERO obligation of any kind to take it back to them. None.

There are reports of both situations. My pioint was that it is not as if every store has an active demo. Some do some don't.

I'm glad this is all cleared up, or sort of anyways. I think you did the right thing, screw them.

In the situation I probably wouldn't have even tried to negotiate with them, I would have just said 'thanks for your concern, but I'm keeping it. bye' and if they continued trying to contact me, I'd tell them to stop harassing me or i'd call the police.

to those who got all up on their moral high horse, buzz off. Best Buy is a huge corperation who's history clearly indicates they don't operate by petty morals. They clearly went out of their way to sell him the phone. how many people went to radio shack only to not walk out with a phone because their computer said no? the best buy employee knew better and was just trying to make his sales goals. he did something stupid and should face the consequences, which apperently there aren't any according to op.
aside from that, corperations already have too much money and power. stick it to the man! :P

rant over.
