Best Buy Finally Called and Asked Me To Return The GN

Honestly the screen burn problem isn't too bad. I was reading up on the same issues with the GS2 and it's a screen calibration issue that affected nearly all t-mobile versions and some in Canada and AT&T. It's only noticeable to someone like me who obsesses over screens making sure they don't have dead pixels and such but it's really not that bad and screen calibration issues could potentially be fixed in an OTA update. We shall see!

He didn't do anything "immoral" he went into a public establishment that sells goods to the public. He didn't force the sales person to sell him the phone, they sold it to him willingly like any other product. He didn't steal it nor did he bribe someone to sell it to him earlier and now they want it back? No..they made the mistake not him. That means they will sell the used phone (it is used now since he activated and has been using) as new? He's actually keeping Bestbuy from doing the "immoral" thing by keeping the phone.

Keep the phone, even if there is a defect...let them sweat it out. Once the phone is released, go to another Bestbuy and do an exchange on it if you think there is a defect in the screen. As long as it's within the 30 days (might be longer now since the Holidays are here) you won't have a problem.

So keeping a screwed up phone just to be a thorn in the side of a few BB employees sides = winning? And if VZW does get wind of this and decides they want the phone back all they need to do is send a kill signal to the thing and it will be bricked.

You can't remotely brick a device. Please understand the correct terminology before using it.

Sent from somewhere using something to send it.

nothing like not even stopping to think for 2 seconds before posting...you seriously don't think that VZW knows about this yet? ROFL

Also, there's no good that can come out of bricking the phone for VZW. That's going to be terribly bad press for them, if not lawsuit worthy.

Have you watched any 720p videos on the phone yet? I know that's going to be a big selling point for some (AKA me) and not something they can test out in the store.

Won't happen. If they did this then they would have a bigger issue on their hand like a lawsuit by the OP. The OP did not steal it and paid for it from an establishment that is authorized to sell phones for Verizon. He has a receipt and was able to activate it on the Verizon Network. If Verizon was that hell bent on keeping the phone off their network until they are sold, they can easily mark the consumer phones from their "soak test" phones and not authorize them to activate.

Now if the OP broke into BB, knocked off a truck to get the phone or "found" it in a bar, different story.

If they did this, I would love to see Verizon's answer to the judge when asked why they deactivated the OP's phone that was legally purchased, has a receipt for it and was able to activate it on their Network with no issues in the first place.

in addition to being a legally sold phone, what would happen in an emergency situation if VZW deactivated his phone to the point where it couldn't even make 911 calls? is that even possible?

I seriously do not think most of the people in this topic knows what "bricked" means. Having a device deactivated does not mean it's bricked, it's still fully functional and working as intended, it's just not connected to the network.

Having his phone "bricked" would mean he can't use it whatsoever, it wouldn't even boot up most likely. Verizon can't do that, they don't have super secret powers that lets them delete important system files from someone's phone.

As it was discussed earlier in the thread, all phones even deactivated ones still must be able to get through to 911. Now, the Samsung Vibrant with custom rom - that's a different story

Question, and my apologies if I missed this juicy point, but did anyone who got activated at BB for a Verizon Nexus get the updates?

The reason I ask is that I was sitting in class today and look to my right to check out a friend playing with his Nexus with Big Red's logo on the back! I was shocked, and quite jealous, so I questioned where he got it. Apparently, his father is an engineer over at Samsung and he was given a test device. Upon activation, it has undergone several ota updates since his obtaining the phone 5 days ago, including up to 4.0.3 this morning (Tuesday the 13th). While I have been tracking this debacle for some time, I did at least find his situation distinct in what I have been reading about those who snuck an early phone.

I make no propositions and no assumptions about what this means, and really, while excited for the possibility of a Thursday release, am not holding my breath. If this is already discussed, my apologies. Just figured the anecdote was worth a mention.

Good luck for continued sanity!

As stated before you can call 911 from a phone with out service.

Screenshot or it didn't happen.

I'd keep it, I wouldn't worry about doing BB any favors, they wouldn't for you.You paid for it, it's your property, tell them to get lost. Besides, what if you were an unaware customer who came in and bought it, not knowing it wasn't released yet?

I would have laughed at them if they called and asked me that, especially after the experiences I've had with them in the past.

As of yet no updates for my purchased device. Still on 4.0.1

guinnkevinr: Any calls from BB today as promised?

Nothing yet. But it's only 10:30am my time. The rep who sold it might not be in yet or they could be waiting for a manager. I'm sure it will come. I will keep everyone posted on what happens.

If you have ever worked in retail you know that they can and should give you something to make up for the hassle and mistake on their part. I have seen stores give out gift cards all of the time to irate customers with much less severe mistakes than this. The fact that they have offered you nothing would be an indicator to me that they don't need the phone back that bad or you aren't talking to the right person (i.e. a manager).

I would tell them you want the money that you have paid plus something for your time and efforts, in addition to a deep discount on another model phone (or another gift card to cover those discounts) or they need to stop harassing you. I would be sure to use that language too so that they know that you are feeling stressed over the situation. If they are unwilling to do that then tell them you wish for them to quit contacting you and calling you especially while you are at work. You have listened to them up until now but either they need to make the situation right with you or they need to leave you alone.

Trust me, I have dealt with stores like this before over much less than this and walked away satisfied with the arrangement I received. You just need to stand your ground and word things in such a way that they know you want to help them out but you also expect them to make things right with you. Otherwise, you want to be left alone.

Just my $0.02 from someone older and wiser. ;)
