Best car dock for Note 3?

Re: best car dock for note 3?

Hi folks - great discussion here and lots of good insights.

Just got my GN3 and needed a new car mount. I replaced an iPhone 4S and was using an iOttie mount: Amazon.com: iOttie HLCRIO102 One Touch Windshield Dashboard Universal Car Mount Holder for iPhone 4S/5/5S/5C, Galaxy S4/S3/S2, HTC One DROID RAZR HD - Retail Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

The iOttie was very nice, good one handed operation, excellent suction cup attachment but as a result of my dash layout (2011 Sienna) my options for a suction mount point was a bit limited given I REALLY don't like my devices to be in my line of sight above the dash between me and the windshield. The real problem is was that the version I have was too small for the GN3 so something new was required (I first looked at the XXL version of the iOttie - that would be a simple option).

This time around I am going to try a CD slot mount and after a little research decided to also try the magnetic route at the same time. It came down to a decision between the Mountek and InfinitApps options and I just ordered: Amazon.com: InfiniApps Slyde CD Slot Mount for Smartphones, Cradle-less Universal cell phone holder with Quick-snap technology, magnetic cell phone mount: Cell Phones & Accessories

I will report back once it arrives and I have a chance to set it up!

Proclip all the way.

I looked at the Proclip options but it always looks like I have to either have my GN3 naked (which I never do) or try and guess whether some of their more generic docks will work with the particular case I happen to be using at the time - am I missing something?

I got my magnetic dock and it is AMAZING! Amazon.com: InfiniApps Slyde CD Slot Mount for Smartphones, Cradle-less Universal cell phone holder with Quick-snap technology, magnetic cell phone mount: Cell Phones & Accessories

I was a bit skeptical and frankly thought it was a good possibility that this would end up getting returned but I was very pleasantly surprised. The dock is very well designed and easy to setup. I was concerned about the effect of the magnet an the metal plate might have on the phone. After some research it appears that unless the magnet is massively powerful it has NO effect on a phone or memory card like the 64GB microsd card I have. There are valid concerns involving wrapping the back of your phone in a metal case and interfering with the antenna/reception but the metal plate for this dock is fairly small has ZERO impact on my reception - I have in centered so it appears that it is not interfering with any of the antennas.

I don't have my GN3 in a full case but rather prefer to use a good bumper so the one I use is: Amazon.com: Bear Motion for Galaxy Note 3 - Premium Bumper Ring Case for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Note III (Black) (Black): Cell Phones & Accessories and as a result the stock back panel is exposed. I installed the metal plate inside the stock back panel right in the center (I used a bit of tape to hold it to the inside of the back cover so it doesn't move around) and once installed you don't even know it it there. I really like the fact that if I change back panels or put on a new case this dock should still work fine.

The dock installed into the CD slot very securely and once tightened down it does not move at all. I tested the hold of the magnet before installing in the car and it holds very well - the GN3 will not move or slide around at all and there is no wobble like I have seen with other docks . I was more than a bit nervous the first few times I drove with it because it just "looks" like the phone is floating there but even in relatively bumpy roads it was locked on - very impressed!

I agree the Ibolt is very good. Just one Problem. When I receive an incoming call I can't see who is calling me. Do you have the same problem?

When I am Driving I have it in Hands free Mode so it tells me who is calling.

How's it work in landscape mode? Just as well as portrait?

Re: best car dock for note 3?

I'm not a big fan of the suction cups nor the ones that stick to the dashboard via adhesion. I saw one that sticks to the car's A/C vent. The one I have mounts to the CD slot and I find it a little better than the alternatives.

If you place the phone on the car vent it will overheat and stop charging when the heater is on. Not a good idea.

Yes, there is a problem with Samsung's phone.apk. I have the same problem.

Re: best car dock for note 3?

I am planning on getting the Zero lemon 10000mah battery which is going to add some thickness. Does anyone know if the ibolt has enough space for the extra thickness and is strong enough to hold some extra weight?

Yes, plenty of thickness space

You should be able to turn that vent off though, and if you've got the heat on, it's typically because it's cold outside and you're trying to get the inside of the car set to a comfortable temperature. The suction cups still make me nervous. I had a suction cup mounted bluetooth speaker fall on me just this morning.

The iBolt one is very good.

Re: best car dock for note 3?

Go ahead and buy one so you can be the first one to review, LOL.

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw it.

iMagnet works phenomenally well. I've tried the iBolt, and much prefer the magnet. I use a proclip mount, with the iMagnet system attached to the ball. Plate sits nicely inside the stock back on top of the battery. I've had no trouble with magnet strength with standard TPU cases. More than that, and you just stick another plate in behind the case, easy!

In my opinion, no other setup looks as clean.

Does the magnet not interfere with the phone's functionality when using navigation or other apps?

A magnet shouldn't affect GPS, but it could delete data. I wouldn't put a magnet near a computer.
