Well, I've persevered through yet another proven HTC dud. First was the Eris, which was as quickly abandoned by Verizon as it was adopted, and then the Thunderbolt - which met pretty much the same fate. One of the things I've really liked about the TB though is the ability to use the internet and talk at the same time. Back when AT&T was running those ads I thought it was a needless feature, but I"ve used it a lot and want my next phone to have that option.

What's the best option out now or coming out soon that will let me talk & use the web and will be a phone that will be reliable and supported. Clearly I've chosen poorly the last two times....

I would be shocked if the HTC One were not to be 'well-supported', considering what HTC has said about it so far. I'm not entirely sure about simultaneous voice and data, but depending on the carrier you should be able to.

Samsung Galaxy S3 is still one of the best phones out for Verizon. It supports voice/data. Would seem like the Note 2 would as well but I haven't looked into it.

The note 2 supports simultaneous voice and data on 4glte, but not 3g. The gs3 sports simultaneous voice and data over both 3g and 4glte

I don't understand why Verizon just can't standardize on eHRPD (which supports simultaneous voice and data) for 3G and be done with it, but I guess since they are phasing out 3G anyway there's not a LOT of point trying to maintain it.

Looks like you and I are one of few remaining holdouts for that ill-fated Thunderbolt (I'm rooted, so things are better). I'm going to buy a used phone at some point and right now, I think the Nexus (bad battery) and the SIII (sketchy reports on reception) are the best options (new or used). I eliminated the Note II as an option because I just bought the Nexus 7 and it's got all my tablet needs covered.

Compared to the thunderbolt, the gs3 blows the thunderbolt out of the water in regards to almost every aspect, reception included, for me. My gs3 was pretty close to my Razr maxx. My note 2 seems slightly better than my Razr maxx.

Still using and liking my TB.
I'm not sure why some think it's a dud.
I'm also eligible for an upgrade.
I'm still not quite settled on what to get.

I expect there are quite a few Thunderbolt owners left out there. I know of a generous handful of them at work, but none of them geeky enough to find the processor, screen size, memory, or OS to be an issue.

I'm marginally happy with it since I did the factory reset - it runs Ingress OK now, but Ingress really pushes its limits pretty hard. :)
