I've been switching between messenger and textra. As well as google keyboard and swiftkey. I find that I'm getting some keyboard lag in messenger when I tap too fast. Also while a text is sending and I begin typing again I will get some keyboard lag. I switched to textra and did the same and phone that it was messenger causing that.

Trying to find a lag free sms app and keyboard combo.

I like Google Keyboard. I've tried others but always come back.

I've mostly converted to IM (WhatsApp, signal, Hangouts) for communication but when I need to send an actual text, I just use Hangouts since it handles it reasonably well.

I've been an avid Swype user for years. I've tried other keyboards, even Swift Key, but they always left me missing something that Swype had. Plus Swype seems to be the most forgiving if you're off a bit when swiping through a word. It doesn't lag a bit on my G4.

For text, I'm using the last version of the original Handcent app before it was pulled from play. It's been replaced with Handcent Next, but I don't like how they changed the smiles (which I think is what caused the old app to be pulled, for copyright issues). Other than that, it's extremely customizable. I also love the fact I can add a delay after pressing the send button. That way if I hit send by mistake, I can cancel it before the app actually sends the text.

I don't use the phone for messaging but I prefer the Google Voice app and the Google Voice website on the computer. For keyboards, I like ai.type keyboard plus as it supports swype and also the chinese language when needed.

I'm another one using the blackberry keyboard...love it!!! This is coming from a long time blackberry user. But I find it the best so far. Flick to input words gets very fast after it Kearns your behavior , swipe back to erase words is awesome but it's not like the original one where 2 fingers would erase two words and so on. Flick down to access quick numbers or other character's is also very useful. Not having a number row doesn't bother me anymore either.

Another vote here for the Blackberry keyboard. Seems smoother than Swift or LG, the ones that I had been using, and has one great feature: when you are in a password field, the number row automatically appears (hidden at other times), making it easier to enter complex passwords.

No swipe, so if you are a fan of that, this is not for you

I'm no fan of the swipe style of entry, so it's no big deal to me.

Another benefit of the BB keybaord is that it has the BB layout (2nd row of characters flush to the sides of the screen). Of the touch keyboards with which we're familiar, only Fleksy has that style layout. I've not been able to stick with Fleksy, even though the layout made me really want to.

TouchPal keyboard and evolve for messaging.

I'm trying the Blackberry keyboard after reading this. Going to take some getting used to but swiping up the words is really cool. I always wanted a BB10 phone but never pulled the trigger. This is really amazing how predictive this is. This is growing on me quickly! I have been using SwiftKey for over two years. Thanks for the link!

I realized I didn't answer the OP question.

I'm a big SwiftKey fan. I'm using both the Beta version of that, plus have been trying out their Greenhouse project Neural keyboard. I am also using the new BlackBerry keyboard from the Priv. There are things I like about each.

If I had to choose only one (obviously the longer term goal), it would probably be SwiftKey (beta or stable) all things considered.

Textra is my texting choice, hands down.

I absolutely love the LG stock keyboard. I find that its predictions and auto correct is better than the competition. That said, I think Swype is really good in its own right. I've used SwiftKey a lot, but its predictions are way off and I find myself having to do far too much editing when I use it.

I've been a Swype user since 2010. Tried a few other keyboards: Swift Key, Touch Pal, Fleksy, Google Keyboard etc etc, but I always come back to Swype. I'm not that into predictive typing, I value a correct and forgiving swype much more. Plus I find myself missing its gestures whenever I switch to another keyboard.

As for texting, I don't use third party apps anymore, just make due with the stock app lol.

I've been using Textra and Google Keyboard. There are others, like SwiftKey, that are good, but don't work on the lock screen like the Google Keyboard does, so I stick with it. Just wish it had some different themes (only has four boring ones).

Another day with the Blackberry keyboard and loving it more each day ! This should be in the Google store. I forgot how much I loved blackberry.
