Better audio quality when recording video in auto mode?

Hi! Has anyone else noticed that the audio is quite a bit crisper and clearer and not distorting as easily when recording video in auto mode?

I seem to be getting all kinds of phase issues when trying to change the direction of the mics in manual mode... It's quite a bummer since I'd like to have both the awsome manual controls AND good audio when recording video.

Hmm, not really and I use the crap out of manual video mode. Several factors can affect video and audio quality. What's your SD card model and class? What other audio settings do you tweak besides direction? What bitrate do you record videos in?

I just tweaked gain level and mic direction... Are there anything else that can affect the audio quality?

I read this on gsm arena:
"Regardless of resolution, the audio is recorded in stereo at 156Kbps. While we would have appreciated a higher bitrate, the mics are very good and you can listen to minute details in the scene."

So it doesn't seem like the bitrate should affect it?

I don't have an SD card yet, everything is going to the internal memory.

Is it just that the audio is more compressed in auto mode? I don't get it.

I'll try to post links to the videos I've taken so you can listen.

I'm having this issue as well on my V10, though I hadn't thought of auto mode to see if it's any better - but unless I'm missing something, auto or simple mode doesn't work for lengthy shots, i. e. music rehearsals....
I'm having horrible phase issues as well and have to turn mic levels down significantly to avoid distortion.
Anyone find solutions on this yet?
