Bingo! I finally figured out how to get things straight in my Droid X 2.2 update

I synced all of my apps with appbrain and when I went to install from appbrain, when it directed me to the Market for the install, it still said it couldn't find the apps. VERY FRUSTRATING. I called VZW, they transferred me to Moto Level 1, the to Level 2 where the guy never came on the line.

I'm going to keep searching these threads until I find an answer as to where I can find my paid apps.

Im having the same problem, I cant find 2 of my paid programs in the market after doing this. I went down to verizon and said the 2.2 upgrade screwed my phone up and have a new one on the way now.

Thanks for the recomendation...this has resolved a lot of small issues plus some bigger ones (like unreliable WiFi and FC on Battery Screen)

OK, I did the reset and all is well, BUT when I go to log on to my google account it says I am using the wrong combo. Ugh...online with google is my indco.net email address, so I tried that one and it says that type will not work, so then I tried my Gmail email address, I have the passwords wrote down, so that is not the problem.. What am I doing wrong?

Ugh...Ok, Nevermind...I finally figured that one out...

Sorry no one helped in time. The whole point to doing a reset here is to let the phone fully boot WITHOUT logging into an account. Once you skip all of the log in prompts, you..

Go to Menu-->settings-->privacy.

Make sure "back up my data" is checked, then uncheck "automatic restore", the you need to uncheck "back up my data".

After you do that, then log into your gmail account.

If you logged into an account before it fully booted and changed the privacy settings, then I would do a reset again.

Thanks, no I did all that without logging into anything, But now that I have only like 3 contacts came back to my phone...Are they lost forever?

I don't know what is synced with the backup assistant, but if it's just contacts I think you're good.

It's Verizons backup program that comes preinstalled on the phone

I just did the factory reset, after I formatted my sd card. I then realized that in a later post you stated that we should power down, remove battery and then hold power button down. I am going to go ahead and factory reset again, but want to know, should I format my sd card again (I haven't done anything since the first factory reset that I just did).Sorry, I'm a noob. Also, I know that I need to skip setting up my accounts, but what about the "Use Google Location" screen, do I need to uncheck these as well and click next?

Thanks for all of your awesome help!

Edit - One other question, I do keep my contacts in Google. How do I get them back onto my phone? Which reminds me, how do I get all the info that I moved to my computer from my sd back onto my phone? If this is not the place to ask this, I apologize. I haven't had to do any of this before.

1. No you don't have to reformat the card, can't hurt though. I think the ~3 default folders it creates are empty anyway.

2. Google locations = yes.

3. Once you log into google (after you've unchecked restore/backup in privacy settings), it will sync your google info automatically. You can go into settings-->accounts, tap on your google account and verify there if they sync options are checked.

4. You can either put your Micro SD card in a Micro SD-->SD card adapter in a card reader or just plug the phone into your computer. Drag the notification window down, tap USB and choose the mass storage setting. Your SD card will be listed as a drive on your computer. Copy, paste, move, etc..

I did make sure I had my contacts synced with Google but once I finished and logged on only 3-4 contacts came back on my phone.

Wow!! Sorry for all the questions. I am totally new to this.. I think I have got it figured out. I just went the long way about it. I had used the App Mybackup and saved the files within the main file that is on the SD card.. but not the main file..not smart..lol, but once I had the app save something again, I had the main file back to put all my info and apps folders back into..Whew!!!! All apps and contacts I saved I now have again.

Didn't think I needed it, but WOW what a difference!

My Droid X seemed to be working fine, I'd only had it a week and didn't have any grand expectations (ignorance is bliss). It did seem a little smoother prior to the 2.2 update, so I went ahead and gave this method a try. WOW am I surprised at how stonkin' fast this thing is now. I've only had it "cleaned up" for a couple of hours, just finished reinstalling everything, but the responsiveness is crazy fast now. Thanks for the thorough instructions, you should be receiving royalties from Motorola and Verizon! Anyone considering resetting their X this way it is definitely worth it.

I'm trying to format my SD card before going through the restore process; but, the option to format is grayed out and whenever I tap "unmount" it just says "unmounting in progress" but the format option remains grayed out.

Any advice? Thanks.

What I've noticed is that it will be faster than it was prior to the full reset... but after a couple of days it will start to slow a bit.

I just used your method for a factory reset and have to say so far everything is running much smoother. Also it gave me a chance to see how many apps I wasn't really using. I also got a chance to recustomize the phone into a whole new layout that seems to be working better for me so far. Thanks a lot for this post.

Just finished a factory reset as per your instructions before you clarified them. Do you think it worked even though I didn't do the pre-reset things (other than initializing the SD card)? I followed all the other directions regarding skipping the longins and backup unchecks. So far, all seems to be OK.

My major issues were/are? multiple "phone contact" links with my google contacts list. They seem clean now.

PS -- I suspect the Verizon contacts backup as the problem, but I can't verify that. I have no way of finding the "phone book" that seems to be central to all contacts -- other than suspecting the Verizon backup. This time around, I have not activated it at all and don't intend to. And,before I did the Factory Reset, I went into My Verizon online and deleted ALL the contacts listed there.

Ya, I'd say your fine. I also agree the backup assistant was causing problems for you too.
