Bingo! I finally figured out how to get things straight in my Droid X 2.2 update

Where are these steps everyone is talking about. I'm just getting to this thread and read all the posts, but didn't see where any steps are listed. I'm excited to try this, but seeing how I'm new to the Android world with my X, I'm kinda lost, lol. Thanks!

So I did this and everything on the phone seems to be working great, however, I'm having one major issue.

My apps that I purchased are no longer showing in my downloads. Not only that, I can't even find them when I search for them in the Market.

The following apps are the ones that I cannot find that I already purchased. Can someone go in and see if you can find them in the market on your X?

1. MLB at bat
2. ESPN Radio
3. ESPN Fantasy Football
4. GolfCard

Those are the one's that I've searched for so far with no luck. I really want these apps as I use them all the time.

Here's my question before I jump in... After I reset to 2.1, does the update to 2.2 automatically start? If not, do I have to wait until 2.2 is installed before I restore my contacts, apps, SD card etc. In case it isn't obvious, I'm a little nervous about this process, but I'm not happy with Froyo as I've received it & am willing to do all of this to make my phone better... just trying to minimize the surprises after I start.

After the clean reset, immediately install 2.2. That way, anything you install after will be configured to run on 2.2, but if you install the OS after you've loaded apps, contacts, etc, then they'll be configured for 2.1.

Reset > Install 2.2 > load contacts and calendar stuff > then apps.

OK, I'll try again. Thanks.

Ok, after reading through this entire thread, I have had more problems with my X since doing this. Since completing this procedure, now I don't have access to all of the apps that I already purchased and cannot find them. I've done a factory reset twice since I did it and can't even locate the apps via search or barcode scan. It's like they completely disappeared. Please help for any advice.

Right now I'm about to run sbf to remove root and start from stock to see if that does anything for me.

Ok, total noob here. I am ordering my X on Monday. Do you guys recommend following Fabrian's instructions literally out of the box or should I just update to 2.2 immediately and not worry about the rest because all apps will only be installed on 2.2?

Thanks in advance for your input!

lol, at least they gave reference to this forum. Thanks for the link.

Ya know, as much as this "fix" made a big difference, this official 2.2 is still buggy. I'm getting tired of it tbh.

I talked to Motorola about some of these issues and was supposed to get a call back from level 2 or 3 support in "24 hours". That was 48 hours ago... At least they documented (so the rep said) the bandaid I found so they can do something about it. I even told them where to look here, so they can see it's not just a handful of people that fall into the 2% tough luck crowd.

I had actually found a better way, rather, a cleaner way to do the reset. It has always seemed to me that a battery pull before anything is better - and this is because by doing so releases any residual energy in the circuitry, thus being certain no data (good or bad) might be residing in memory (this applies to most any computerized device).

What I did different was.... Instead of going through the menu and doing a factory reset, I just shutdown, pulled the battery for a few seconds (always hit the power switch when the power source is removed to dump residual energy quickly), put the battery back in and booted to recover. I did a reset from there and then made sure to boot without logging into any account..etc.

After I did that it ran even smoother than before. Screen transitions were almost as smooth as LP or ADW. For a while anyway.. I think this release has a memory leak.

Is it me or is everyone else having auto brightness issues?

BTW, I'm still getting the "stuck on M logo" once in a while, but it's only when I install or reinstall an app - and it's random too, it doesn't happen for every install/uninstall. As long as I'm not doing that, I never get that logo overlay.

Well...before this whole thread started, I wiped my phone, just not Fabrian's way. I didn't need to because I was not having any problems. Ran a little better, but I decided to try Fabrian's way just for kicks.
I have to admit, I was little nervous about doing a complete wipe and a reformat of my SD card. Don't ask why, just paranoid and weird I guess.
Definitely see a difference. Not much, but significant.

Question: was it decided that we shouldn't set it to back-up settings and apps yet?

I don't think there's a concensus just yet, but I personally wouldn't backup just yet. Just use AppBrain to sync with apps, google for contacts, calendar etc., and everything else is on your SD card.

I synced all of my apps with appbrain and when I went to install from appbrain, when it directed me to the Market for the install, it still said it couldn't find the apps. VERY FRUSTRATING. I called VZW, they transferred me to Moto Level 1, the to Level 2 where the guy never came on the line.

I'm going to keep searching these threads until I find an answer as to where I can find my paid apps.

That happened to me after the initial upgrade. After I did what I listed in the first post, everything was fine. Did you follow the first post? Have you checked google checkout to see if your purchases are there? Are you sure you logged into the correct google account on your phone? <?? sorry, had to ask.

I just did mine last night and I had no problem at all. I agree with Fabrian though.

What about the back up setting on LP+ settings? Would that work better than the stock back-up for now?

I know there was some question regarding this procedure and having root. I just did this a couple of hours ago and was successfull, and did indeed keep root. Confirmed by reinstalling Wireless Tether.

Am I going to negate the good of doing a factory reset like this if I set everything up skip the gmail setup and auto backup and auto sync.

and then do the backup assistant to get my contacts back?

I don't know what is synced with the backup assistant, but if it's just contacts I think you're good.

Checked Google Checkout and all of my purchases are listed in there. I did sign in with the correct log in information and all that stuff.

Currently on with Level 2 technical support and they told me to create a new google account and see if my apps are listed then.
