Bionic 9/1 release date?

Actually the bionic has been delayed. At CES Motorola announced that a phone called the Droid Bionic would be released sometime in Q2. Q2 is over and there is no Droid Bionic available. Motorola never announced an Etna or a Targa, they only announced a Droid Bionic. They announced it for Q2 and subsequently said it won't be available until Q3. That is the definition of delay.

Sure, to the average consumer the Bionic was delayed.. Except that, up until Verizon put up the Bionic sign up page, the average consumer never even knew it existed. Actually, they probably still don't. All this talk about delaying the Bionic hurting Moto is baseless since the majority of the people who are going to buy it don't know it's going to be released in the next few months. Once they start marketing it a lot of consumers are going to see the main selling points: Dual-core, upgraded camera, 1GB ram, Webtop (yes, this is an enhancement to oblivious consumers whether useful or not), LTE, etc... I think it's going to sell.

Definition of delay is when Verizon says "The XYZ phone will be released in January" or "The XYX will be released Q3" and then it doesn't happen. Motorola doesn't release phones and has no say in the matter. Verizon can release the Bionic in 2012 and it still won't be delayed.

Until Verizon makes an announcement nothing is delayed, pushed up or canceled.

Wow way to nitpick. Try googling bionic and delayed. Maybe all those sites using those subject lines didn't get the message.

Verizon did say they would have four 4G LTE phones on their network by June. Guess which one was 'delayed'?

You can't say anything to ck! He is always right so no point in trying to state anything. Even though the original bionic was given a release of q2 so guess that isn't a delay to him. And yes ck it was on verizons site for awhile with the press release of the original.

LOL face it buddy the bionic was delayed. Just because Verizon doesn't say it doesn't mean it's not true. That's like me asking you to prove that the bionic's specs are inferior...but you can't because Verizon hasn't announced them. Now I'll wait.

Seriously, are we really getting into a charade of semantics over the word delayed? Would postpone be better? How about extended? Or prolonged?

I was told by someone i know at vzw that it's not vzw that's the hold up but in fact the 4g combined with the dual core and 1gb ram, the phone keeps burning out from excessive heat. Which, i don't know if that's totally reliable, but 4g phones do make a lot of heat, and then with the dual core etc, i think it's possibly true. After all, why is it that all the other makes are releasing 4g lte phones with the same old 512, maybe the don't want to invest in the excess cause they know the problem with the combination on vzw network.

Just my two cents. Be kind if you think it's dumb.

Interesting. I can't see 1 GB RAM causing any more heat than 512 RAM. Just doesn't happen. Now the LTE will and the chip could (I haven't really looked at heat output of any of the mobile CPUs), but both of those problems should have been discovered quite a while ago in test units. If they already sent it for field testing (at least, that's what's been said) it should have already been solved. Okay, that's wishful thinking...

I don't see the extra RAM being an issue either. I haven't used LTE enough on my Thunderbolt as I don't live in a 4G area (yet) but does it get substantially hotter when using data over 4G than 3G? Anyone with a current LTE phone that can offer some insight on this?

Now you're just being ridiculous. You really think that a company like Motorola would go to an event as big as CES and announce a flagship phone without Verizon signing of on whatever was announced? Really? Really?? And even if that was the case you think Verizon would just sit idly by while that announcement gets replayed and relived all over newspapers, tv and the internet without saying "wait a minute, we're not going along with that release date" Really? Really?? Come on CK, that's just weak at best...actually saying its weak is giving it too much credit
And by the way, how often does Verizon actually announce an upcoming release date? I'm still waiting for the announcement for the D3

The delay may be a moot point for the reasons that you state, but it's far from baseless. it is indeed fact. Having a moajority of people be aware of something is not a criteria for whether or not it is delayed

I have the TB and doesn't get any hotter on lte than on 3g.

FWIW I just went back and watched verizon's presentation at CES. they announced Bionic to be coming "sometime in the first half of the year" I'm not sure what to make of that since it kind of torpedoes CK's argument. Oh for shame

Delayed or not delayed...tomato or Toe Mah toe. At the end of the day, the Droid Bionic is not out. =/

If the phone's not out on August 4th, there will be hell to pay: I will kill a small child every 60 seconds after 12:00 PM PST!!!!!!!! ;)

My shame will not be made public :'(

OMG. You went through with it and got the iPhone?

Damn, tdizzel, Verizon actually said "sometime in the first half of the year 2012." The presenter mumbled, so I can see why made that mistake. Haha jk. :)

i dunno who pissed in CK's cornflakes but it seems like he just comes over from his SGS2 forums to just stir the pot now adays. I used to like the conversations he brought to the table back when he had an inkling of interest in it but in the past few weeks seems to just come out from left field. Dude I know you got burnt by them putting webtop into the mix but ever since you swore off Bionic you seem to be taking alot more digs than usual with everyone here and masking it as just being "Critical". Now for me some objectivity is healthy but I think you are starting to make it a point to make it more than that. Mind dialing it back a notch and lets all start to play nice again. Mods will start locking down these forums faster than you can say "Delayed" if things don't cool down around here.

Ship you aren't totally innocent yourself bud, I know you are trying to fight back a naysayer but in the end it just fuels the fire and makes things worse. If I were you I would just avoid posting retorts to CK because everything adds up with the mods.

In the end I just don't want to see people banned/threads locked due to personal conflicts and arguements. I am here for the info and the comraderie that comes from all waiting patiently for an epic device to be released.

*Off soapbox*

Now back to you Jim in the studio.
