Bionic in Long Run?

Does it really matter? There really haven't been too many phones with Swype installed from the start that was outside of some Moto phones if I remember correct.

If you already have a beta account you can just D/L it to your phone when you get it. Should take like 2 min total, it's not a breaking point here.

Okay... I wasn't aware that it was easier to overclock a Droid X than an Incredible. I stand corrected.

its not easier, thats for sure. how much easier could one click rooting be? i think bushido was referencing how quickly each phone obtained root. which is funny, because the X has not been fully rooted!! i guess if you consider pseudo-rooting, rooting, well it might have been first. i actually dont know how long each of them took, but i do know i have been enjoying 2.3 for quite some time and the X hasnt and wont until moto decides to release 2.3. if thats being rooted, count me out!

Something I don't see mentioned in the forums is that while the Motorola will likely have a locked boot loader and therefore be very difficult to root (if at all), there ARE users like myself who can't have a rooted device. While it's fun playing with all these ROMs etc. that have been leaked for the Fascinate recently, I don't know for sure that installing a custom ROM would work after I remove root. I could really end up with a messed up device.

So while I'm still anxiously waiting for the Thunderbolt, the Bionic IS looking attractive from the perspective of bigger battery, like the form factor, forces me NOT to try messing with it, and LauncherPro can always fix a bad UI.

Root access is administrator access to the file system, that's it. If you can run root permission apps, then you have root. No such thing as a "full" or "half" root, unless you count the temp root on HTC devices had before devs figured out how to permanently turn "S" off.

The Droid X, and many other phones can be rooted with the click of one button. I recently purchased a used DX, rooted, bootstrapped it, flashed the Liberty ROM over WiFi while eating fries at a Bus Boy's Poets restaurant. As far as OC'ing - jrummy overclock <- is that easy enough? That's one of several methods that is used to achieved overclock, which IMO, is pointless. but that's an entirely different topic.

I'm just going to put this in my signature to avoid having to repeat myself so often.

Correct. This is a common misconception. Locked bootloader and root are two completely different animals

ALL phones achieve root eventually. All the locked bootloader does is prevent you from flashing "unsigned" custom ROMs and a few other customizations. But all Moto's still have root access at this point. The Bionic and Atrix will be rooted as well

Ya know some people are born A@@h@@@@. They can post where they want. I did not know there were Android Central police. I personally like HTC over Motorola and currently own a Droid X. I had a Incredible but love the biffer screen. The bionic seems to be a great phone but with all the release push backs it may not be out till January. I normally use all the upgrades on my plan and start handing down. I wish that the new Galaxy s ii would come to Verizon or lg optimus 3D. But to me the Thunderbolt is the phone to own.

I stand corrected on Swype, I think. From the looks of it, it doesn't have Swype pre-installed. I checked all the videos of it and none of them show Swype, and a couple unconfirmed reviews don't mention it, either.

Sorry about that =\. Fortunately, you'll be able to install the beta if you sign up.

If it's helpful for anybody, here is the direct link to the Swype beta program. You can register here and I think they are still accepting everybody that applies at the moment, so get in quick:

I may add that part to my signature as well. I can't believe how often that gets mixed up on AC of all places, where I assumed we were all experts on the Android platform. Anyway, to actually contribute something to the topic that is posted -

The TB is a very capable device. I can't see into the future, but I doubt seriously Android will undergo anything so drastic that will render the TB obsolete any time soon.
