Over at HF the great wnrussel posted this

Targa drops two months after Droid 3. No LTE for D3. This one will be worth the wait.
Motorola's new Droid Bionic (Targa) pre-release thread - Page 27

So seems like forever but SO glad to get at least some info!

also p3 just tweeted this about the D3
Quote:
"The Droid3 is on its way. It's is way with dual core omap and. Testers are running 2.3.3 I'm expecting it in next 4 to 8 weeks."
"And I hear it is running circles around he dx2"
So this is strong evidence that the bionic will probably have the same soc or better and it looks like the OMAP dual core is way faster then the Tegra2 so this wait might actually be worth it

Yeah, I remember reading that over at hofo. You can see my thoughts there, that there's still a chance he wasn't told the full story and it'll release sooner, though that is just speculation on my part.

But OMAP4 had better be a good bit faster than tegra2, after what I've been reading about the DX2, Moto may as well hang it up now if the Droid 3 and Bionic aren't any better than that.

I respect the info the guys at Hofo are putting out. But as a tester or whatever, i believe saying itll come out in a certain time is just their opinion. They may be right but in the end its still just an educated opinion. Its not set in stone.

Yup, I continue to hold to my belief that they don't know when it'll launch, because they're working to get it ready as fast as they can, and once it is, it'll launch. I definitely respect wnrussell's info, but I see no reason for them to wait another 3 months, that is ridiculous. Droid X2 appears to be a bit of a flop, Droid 3 isn't likely to make much of a splash at this point if it arrives the same time as the GS2, and a dual-core 4G phone on Sprint will likely take customers away from VZW until they have something to match it, which they won't be happy with Moto about. So I still see no logical reason for Moto or VZW to delay this any longer, once the device is completed, it should drop.

Now the only question is when will it actually be ready? This waiting game is so frustrating, my Versa is getting more annoying every day, and I will NOT miss out on unlimited LTE. So give me some reason to believe my waiting will pay off Moto, or you'll lose my business to Samsung very soon...

Mid July would be awesome.

A Dual core OMAP in July, and a Tegra 3 Tablet by October. and my life is set haha..

I still havent decided if i will try to lock into unlimited LTE if Bionic doesnt drop by then. Hmmmmm.

I am not so sure why they are focusing any time towards new 3g devices, I understand not everybody has 4g in their market yet, but the phones still run 3g, and most are better at running 3g then the 3g phones out there....

I can't speak for everyone, but I got done waiting for this phone and picked up a Dinc2. I don't tether, and I won't be doing any mobile hotspot. I also can't imagine why I would stream video and such on my phone either when I have a 42" 1080p panasonic plasma and a bluray player that will play any and all video files. :p My phone is amazing, and its battery life is awesome. I also didn't like the large size of all the 4g phones. 4.3" is too big. When 4g phones are smaller, lighter, substantially more power efficient (which will come as the radio tech improves ... just not there at all yet), are dual core, can all do voice and data at the same time over 3g and 4g, and are all around better spec'd than they are now, then they might be worth getting, at least in my opinion. And a lot of users out there, at least pretty much all my friends, think that way. Good luck to everyone on here, I'm sure the Bionic will be a fine phone. But I'm happy Vzw released the Dinc2, and I couldn't be happier. A 4g phone loading a webpage a couple seconds faster is hardly a big deal to me, and if I want to download music or big files, that's what my macbook is for. I think the focus though on 3g phones is warranted for the people who want smaller/lighter phones with better battery life. Good luck to you all though!!! :)

Same here. I'm simply done waiting for this phone, we've been left in the dark long enough and I'm sick of it. If the GSII comes to Verizon before the Bionic, which at this point is certainly possible, I'm jumping on that.

thats what I am saying they are continuing to develop and put money towards 3g when they should be making the phones smaller, more powerful(battery) and every phone coming out right now on VZW should be svdo(talk and surf 3g at same time), its not like they havent had almost a year to this point to know what the specs of LTE were, and almost 6-8 months worth of time of actual LTE up time, including testing phase through VZW for it, You're right the 4.3 is too big, but I dont think they are going to go back to 4" anytime soon, because they think we like it

Well all the reviews seem to praise 4.3" devices, and talk about how great it is to watch movies and read things on such a large screen. The thing about reviewers is that they tend to forget that regular people tend to actually put phones in their pocket, rather than leaving them all over their desk until the next device comes in, so they somehow completely miss the fact that a large phone is just as big when you're looking at it as when you're carrying it around in your pocket.

Oh, definitely, we totally agree. I think vzw kind of dropped the ball and released some subpar phones. I just got my dinc2 a couple days ago, when my upgrade was available back in March, and it was a painful wait because I had been using a BB Curve 8330. I'm not entirely sure if it's vzw thinking we like 4.3" though, or whether the tech is so new that it's just too big to fit into a smaller form factor. To my knowledge the 4g phones have to have the LTE radio, a 3g radio, and then plus room for all the other usual items, it may just be impossible to make anything smaller until a new gen chip comes along. When they integrate the radios all onto one chip and scale the size down then maybe the phone sizes will be more reasonable. That's all my personal speculation though, I really don't know if that's at all close to being right. If vzw was married to 4.3" I'd imagine the dinc2 would be 4.3" then. Who knows though. :-\

But we are in agreement I think. I was really disappointed that all the LTE phones would be so large, disappointed again to read about the poor battery life, and again disappointed in the neverending bionic delays, which I always considered as the best one of them all. But if the x2's battery and performance are so seemingly bad, I basically reasoned that the bionic would be even worse if it was substantially just the x2 plus an LTE radio, dragging down battery life even more. That plus not liking the size, all in light of how I will use it anyways, led me to my dinc2. I spent a lot of time monitoring this bionic board, and my thanks to everyone here. I'm sure when it does come out it will be a powerful device. I hope by the time of my next upgrade that LTE will be fully developed and efficient. I'm almost certain it will by then, and I will then be hoping for the dinc4 LTE by then. Hahahaha. :p But good luck to everyone willing to wait it out in the hopes that the bionic will be great. I'm hoping it will be for everyone here waiting!!

This is exactly right. I don't get why a large screen should be so controlling, especially for something like watching movies. I don't watch movies on any of my ipods, and not even on my macbook. Watching movies is what I do on a tv. I get that watching a movie may be convenient for those who travel on say long flights, but that's hardly all droid consumers. If you want to watch a movie on a flight, use your laptop I say. hahahaha. But come on, it's a phone, and I want to be able to sit comfortably with my phone in my pocket. My dinc2 is already pushing it, but it's still comfortable. I can feel it there for sure, but no big deal since it's also very thin and light. But I also don't like belt clips and can't stand to use them. I much prefer dropping it in my pocket. I suspect many think the same way. 4.3" was a drawback for me flat out, and it always will be. I really hope the reason for the large screen is because of necessity rather than desire. I hope as LTE radios develop that vzw and the manufacturers will get real and start scaling back the sizes of their phones. In any case, I'm confident there will be a market for both 4.3" screens as well as 4" screens and smaller. I'm hoping it's just not possible to fit LTE into a 4" screen and smaller form factor.

Soon they will be adding straps to cell phones and we will carry them around like backpacks. Carrying cell phones in your pocket is so 2009 : )

It?s not just watching videos. Web browsing on a larger screen is nice, and for those of us with big, fat, knuckle dragging fingers, onscreen keyboards will never be big enough.

That said, after a trip to the VZW store yesterday, the DInc2 is the clear favorite for my upgrade. If VZW spent effort to maximize the potential of all their phones (instead of just their LTE darlings) by getting Netflix and Google Talk running on it, I would have gotten it for sure.

I?ve got a pretty steady 5Mbps wifi at work and 12Mbps wifi at home, and by all accounts 3G is enough to do Netflix while stuck away from home. 4G sounds great, but I don?t really want any of the phones available and the Bionic is MIA, despite what a lot of people here want to keep chanting to themselves while plugging their ears with their fingers.

Any word if Motorola will release a revision of the Droid 3 with LTE later this year? An LTE Droid 3 is my perfect phone right now, and seems so close, and yet so far.

Now that I've experienced 4G on my Thunderbolt and now my Charge, it would be very hard to go back to 3G. But I also miss the keyboard from my Samsung Epic 4G. Makes me kinda wanta go back to Sprint. : /
