Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

Honestly I've gotten so freaking tired of waiting, and I'm out of contract, that I think I'm just going to get the Charge for the time being and then sell it and get the Bionic or whatever else is coming down the pipeline.

I seriously can't believe the total mediocrity of Verizon's lineup though.

Once you buy the Charge you may just end up keeping it. I didn't expect it to be nearly as great as it is, but I haven't found it slowing down on me yet and I'm still on the stock ROM and kernel (though I did root it and freeze the crapware). I've very quickly become attached to the screen, and everything else just looks bad to me now, haha. By the time the Bionic actually does come out, development for the Charge will be far along enough that you will have a selection of stable kernels and ROMs to make the phone fly, most likely faster feeling than a stock Bionic.

Trust me, this is not a case of sour grapes, as I really wanted the Bionic and waited a long time for it. And again, if its coming out in June, I'll consider taking the Charge back. But once my 2 weeks are up, I highly doubt I'll be selling the Charge. But regardless of when it comes out, its gonna have to equal or best the Charge in most other areas, as well as having the better processor. If its an Atrix/DX2 pentile screen, has shorter battery life than the Charge, or is still locked down like other Moto devices to prevent custom kernels, Moto can forget it.

Have you tried running a live wallpaper, had Google maps navigation going WITH pandora running(plugged into radio with bluetooth or aux etc), and minimized all of it to answer a text etc while charging? I have yet to see an android phone that didn't struggle heavy with that task (pretty hefty lag). It's understandable, sure. Just saying, some people have a reason they want a dual core. If the charge doesn't, that's fantastic. Give her hell and let me know what happens :)

I feel like I've been in this situation before - hitting F5 on a web forum, waiting for any information to pop up on the next phone I want to get. Scouring the trades (or blogs if you must). Seeking out every leaked morsel of info on a phone that may or may not even exist.

Oh yea, I remember what phone it was for - the OG STORM. The same POS I've had since it's release date (albeit I've gone through 1 or 2 extra since then - who's counting at this point?). What the hell was I thinking?! Getting up at 5:00a on its street date, only to be the 3rd person in line to get one. Let's just hope when this phone finally does drop it doesn't have NEARLY as many issues as that one has.

What's funny is that based on peoples comments in this thread, I'd say 80% of you were right there with me that Summer/Fall 2008, and here we are again almost 3 years later.

Also, I've been thinking about tiered data lately. I went back and looked at my data usage over the past year and, despite the fact that I use my phone a lot, I've still only managed to suck down an average of 70-90 MB / month. So if I were to hop on a 200 MB (or even 2 GB) plan, I'd still be paying less than the current unlimited rate. I know it's great to have the unlimited data "just in case" you need it but why pay more if the phone you are buying is going to have WiFi capabilities anyways? You could sign up for a more suitable data plan, save some cash each month, and then link up to a WiFi hotspot whenever you need to suck down some serious GB's.

I know I know I know - what if I'm in an area that only has 3G/4G service? Let's be real, you can pretty much find a wifi connection just about anywhere these days, haha. Maybe it won't be so bad after all :)

BTW blackberries use like 5 times less data than you would doing the same thing on Android. SO that 70-90mb is actually like 350-450mb.

While I didn't wait in line for it, I had the Storm 1 for a while before upgrading to the Storm 2, where I am now. There are several things to consider when comparing data usage between your current Storm 1 and an Android device.
  1. If I understand it correctly, Blackberry compresses data better, meaning that with the same usage, you will consume more data on an Android device than a BB (I think...).
  2. You currrently don't have wifi, so the addition of that may dramatically drop your paid data usage.
  3. You have WAY more limited possibilities with your Storm than you will with a new Android (both with apps and browser). The BB browser sucks, so with a MUCH faster, more feature rich browser, you will tend to use it a LOT more, which will significantly increase your data consumption.

Even with the Storm 2, which has wifi, I am SO looking forward to switching!

And yes, I am wearing my F5 key out too!

Maybe I'm a complete newbie, but I'm just wondering...how do you link up to a WiFi hotspot?

Thanks guys. I did not know this before and I'll definitely keep that in mind should this phone not make it out before tiered data kicks in. Maybe I do go with a 2 GB plan - only time will tell.

Also surely you did not do much youtube streaming if any at all on your BB. You probably will alot more on Android. Also widgets as well will suck up alot of data.

Im thinking a minimum of 10x more data than youve been using.

Preach2K asked when the keynote was. and i told him. I never said the announcement is or isnt related.

No but telling people they will hear something between 12:30 and 5:00pm (keynote times) pretty much alludes to it don't you think? :)
