Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

I'm going to be dissapointed if I come back from school tomorrow and I don't see info about the bionic from moto

Is it bad that I'm more willing to accept the end of days than any conclusive news about this device? Not even kidding...

Yes that's bad :) no worries though news will come out eventually and then you can live happily ever after.......or not.

Let me ask...if it wasn't for this phone being dual core would everyone in here that wants it have already picked out their new 4G phone at this point?

I think thats quite obvious. If it wasnt for dual core then itll be like any other 4G phone right now. We dont know how it looks, and we dont know how long battery will last.

I thought so. I am almost wishing they would have already released it at this point. I probably would have went with the phone with the largest battery...at least that is how I feel...

Dual Core, Great Battery, On VZW. The Bionic is the only one that fits that criteria.

Or at least it did

I definitely hope they announce something, but they sure have let us down so far, all we can do is wait for tomorrow. I may consider taking the Charge back if there is a definite date in June. But even then I dunno, I got it for a great price ($149), it doesn't leave me wanting anything really, and there is a TON of development already. If its still locked, or isn't likely for June, there's no chance the Sammy is going back though.

I'm about ready to jump on the Charge as well, because I think it matters more that I lock in unlimited Data than anything else - I can Ebay the phone after the Bionic comes out and get that at full retail, after all.

But I've been waiting on this phone since early February when I first heard about it, and way too many times I've been screwed over upcoming devices and settling for "the current technology" only to see the latest and greatest come out weeks after. Last time I settled for my Eris because it was my first smartphone, and at the time I had no idea how useful that thing would be and how reliant I'd become on it.

It's not that I want to have the best all the time, I just don't want to regret a purchase when something else is right around the corner. And the price difference between Charge and Bionic will probably not be much once it's launched.

Question. Why does everyone think they will be grandfathered into the unlimited data price point once tiered data pricing takes a hold? Did I miss the memo?

This, and I haven''t been hearing great things about the Bionic's screen, considering it's the same screen the DX2 uses, and that's making me even more leary of waiting on the Bionic.

Part of the issue is Verizon's utter failure to have a flagship device available for the 4g market. Seems like every single top of the line phone is going to another carrier. Personally, I just want a phone on par with the GSII, something Verizon isn't going to aquire for a while... I've been using a a terrible Storm after my orig droid kicked it in December, and it's been a loooong 6 months already

Being that my actual upgrade isn't until September, I'm really wondering if I'm not just better off buying a charge retail, and then ebaying when my contract is actually up, to decide whether I really want to stay with Big Red. They may have the best network overall, but I'm in a good area for the other carriers as well and I really don't want to get constantly stuck with obsolete phones.... A timely spring/summer next year release of the GSIII (with at least a 2nd gen LTE modem) seems like it might win me over for my next "real" device...

If you buy the phone off-contract, you shouldn't have to sign another contract or update the data plan, I think.

VZW reserves the right to change your contract at any point they wish, HOWEVER, it's my understanding that any such change has to be still re-signed off on by you, the consumer, and that the refusal to resign the changed contract breaches the contract and makes it voided... but makes it voided on Verizon's behalf, meaning no early termination fee.

That's a fairly large potential risk for a company, to potentially send out a letter saying "re-sign your new contract that offers you less or gtfo". Even the average person who only uses 100mb a month, suddenly feels like they are "losing something" if they get a new contract like that, and might resist it.

A far simpler, and easier corporate strategy would to change the policy for all new contracts, and just heavily push "New every two" people to purchase new phones/change their contracts willingly. That way, many of the customers (ok most of them, the kind that don't read the contract anyhow) won't even notice the change... Those customers that do notice the change, now have to decide between passively extending their contracts without device subsidies or just buying devices full retail while keeping their original contract. The subsidy price difference, honestly pays for the extra potential bandwidth abuse, and if Big Red really wanted to stick it to tether users, or people consuming too much data, then it's quite easy to find them, as they'll be all grouped up in the ever shrinking pool of people sticking to old contracts.

I'm no corporate strategist, nor am I privy to any of the financial data backing this decision, but it seems like the safest bet for customer retention.

As long as you don't sign, or change your contract, grandfathered. P3Droid tweeted that days ago, but
I am not to worried about that.

I feel like I've been in this situation before - hitting F5 on a web forum, waiting for any information to pop up on the next phone I want to get. Scouring the trades (or blogs if you must). Seeking out every leaked morsel of info on a phone that may or may not even exist.

Oh yea, I remember what phone it was for - the OG STORM. The same POS I've had since it's release date (albeit I've gone through 1 or 2 extra since then - who's counting at this point?). What the hell was I thinking?! Getting up at 5:00a on its street date, only to be the 3rd person in line to get one. Let's just hope when this phone finally does drop it doesn't have NEARLY as many issues as that one has.

What's funny is that based on peoples comments in this thread, I'd say 80% of you were right there with me that Summer/Fall 2008, and here we are again almost 3 years later.

Also, I've been thinking about tiered data lately. I went back and looked at my data usage over the past year and, despite the fact that I use my phone a lot, I've still only managed to suck down an average of 70-90 MB / month. So if I were to hop on a 200 MB (or even 2 GB) plan, I'd still be paying less than the current unlimited rate. I know it's great to have the unlimited data "just in case" you need it but why pay more if the phone you are buying is going to have WiFi capabilities anyways? You could sign up for a more suitable data plan, save some cash each month, and then link up to a WiFi hotspot whenever you need to suck down some serious GB's.

I know I know I know - what if I'm in an area that only has 3G/4G service? Let's be real, you can pretty much find a wifi connection just about anywhere these days, haha. Maybe it won't be so bad after all :)

Honestly I've gotten so freaking tired of waiting, and I'm out of contract, that I think I'm just going to get the Charge for the time being and then sell it and get the Bionic or whatever else is coming down the pipeline.

I seriously can't believe the total mediocrity of Verizon's lineup though.

thanks brother..yeah I'm not worried but I was curious why so many people were carrying on about this. I'm not going to worry about 10 extra dollars a month ( even if thats the case)
