Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

Well, I picked up a thunderbolt today. Found a guy on Craigslist that wanted to trade for a BB curve. That's right even trade thunderbolt for curve 9330. I wouldn't believe it If I wasn't typing this on it now. So for me it look i'd be selling this sweet piece of tech to get a bionic off contract.

guess it will all depend on prices at that point.

Hi! How's everybody doing. :p

So new stuff: Demo unit models are on order. That means the hardware's done. Set. Ready to go. Looking toward a July launch.

TTFN

ARRGGH!!! Okay, I'm gonna simmer down now. (breathe in, breathe out)

Well, there ya have it folks. It's definitively July. Unless, it's definitely August. Okay, it's definitively July or August.

Holy Crap! What...was he like some 65 year old business man who couldn't handle new tech?

Yeah you have to figure they are going to test it for at least a good month which puts it mid July. Then ASSUMING all goes well they ramp up for release. You are then looking at an early to mid August release.

Thats going to be my guess. 2.5 months from now it gets released.

Okay, but considering that there have already been issues with 4G interoperability on the Bionic and the Xoom, don't you think they may have already pre-tested before sending to demo production? Specifically, I re-listened to the conference call and these were Sanjay's exact words: "there was only one aspect which caused a delay in being all fairness to ourselves, and I?m as tough as anybody. The team is executing extremely well. We were delayed of two 4G products because we had some network interaction issues with our protocol stacks."

Or, do carriers normally dog food it with demo units?

Ah! Well, for certain you are now messing with me, ya cryptic little summonabeach! ;)

So, we're not actually waiting for the Targa, we're waiting for the Tardis!

Probably, but the units will now go into testers hands before release. Verizon will NOT just release a phone without extensive testing on it's network. Talk about a nightmare that could turn out to be :)

Yeah Winston already said they are not using Qualcomm. Care to share where you saw that they are using VIA or did you read it in passing somewhere? Don't doubt you but I like to be informed.

Thanks!

Hofo. I think it was kbman - but I know it was one of the few I trust.

Ah thats cool. CZ aka kbman knows his stuff. Good to know this info..thanks bruthaaa :)

I think that was the real problem. Just because they replaced the Nvidia chip with the OMAP doesn't mean the problem was with the Nvidia chip. I'll bet it was with the less experienced radio chip and I'll bet anything this is why Sanjay referred to burned bridges. I think something went down between Qualcomm and Mot. I recall reading somewhere something about Qualcomm giggling over Mot's dilemma. Qualcomm is CDMA essentially. If there were hand-off issues, QC could have solved them. Maybe not so much this Via company, although I admittedly don't know their line or experience in this area.

Also, do any of the other new 4G dual core phones use Qualcomms? That could explain why they don't have a problem. Maybe it was another situation like HTC experienced last year with the Incredible was it? Lack of Super AMOLED screens because they came from Samsung and Samsung was saving them all for themselves. Maybe Samsung and HTC locked in all current production from Qualcomm on the radio chips and Mot got pissed and said things they shouldn't have.

The Qualcomm chip wasn't the issue. That's never even been part of the rumors with the canceling of the original hardware. It all centered around Tegra 2's issues with LTE handoffs.

Qualcomm is also not just CDMA; they're in EVERY HTC GSM product in Europe. They sell more GSM products than they do CDMA.

You think they are just going to ship them to stores and release it? lol no way. Verizon will now be testing the handset

i dont know how you deducted that from my statement! of course they test the device. you said rigorous testing, that is a laugh. rigorous testing my ass! storm, incredible battery life, thunderbolt, many more that showed no signs of rigorous testing. in fact if they had any trend it would be the opposite.

missed the sarcasm.....

Yes, it is getting the OMAP4xxx, they are talking about the LTE chip it is getting. They are 2 separate chips. The CPU and the baseband chip.

I hear the LTE chip for the Bionic is from VIA Technologies, not Qualcomm.

VIA doesn't build an LTE chip. And Verizon hasn't approved any other chips than the Samsung, Qualcomm and LG chips.

So far the LG and Samsung chips have only been used in LG and Samsung products. If the Bionic uses anything other than Qualcomm, it would be the Samsung chip, but I highly doubt that though.
