Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

Hi there to all

Just a quick question so I dont have to go through many many pages to look for the quick answer that I want. What is the likely release date for this phone?? Ive heard July and then August, what is the more likely month? Thanks all

no one can really give you a "more likely" month, cuz no one really knows. that being said, Winston and wnrussell over at HoFo, who are very reliable in these matters, have said it will be an August release. my personal opinion is that, given we are already close to mid-June and still haven't seen much in the way of solid leaks (pics, videos, specs, etc), leads me to believe we are looking at August at the earliest. also, every indication is that the "Bionic" is really just the Targa, renamed as the Bionic because of all the problems the original Bionic was having. all prior rumors on the Targa were that it was slated for a Q3 release. now, i know that July is still technically in Q3 - but, come on, how often has Moto/VZW actually released a phone at the beginning of their targeted release time frame??!!

FYI, Just because it's Moto Blur doesn't mean it will have lag. My wife's Droid X just got the update to Gingerbread and that thing has no lag at all! Fast, sharp, and very responsive. I kick myself everyday giving it to her for her Moto Droid and her NE2. I need this phone ASAP!!! The OG Droid is sooooo slow and on it's last leg. Pa-lease Verizon release it soon or I'm going to have to go with the Droid Charge.

I've been using my dad's DX2 a lot in the past week and it doesn't even lag that much. Of course at times it will, but overall. it's fast. and it's running FroYo.

My og droid still runs super smooth. 1.2 GHz ulv kernel, simply stunning Rom, adw ex launcher. Is Ur og droid rooted? If not maybe u can get some more life out of it.

Rooting the og droid is like getting a new phone. I've had mine since the day it was released.

My phone was on its last legs. Then back in jan I finally rooted, and not only did it get new legs, but rebuilt...faster, stronger...

I also use chevy ulv 1.2 kernel, but with sourcery 2.2. Truly, a rooted og droid is nearly as good as any other single core phone out there.

Certainly, if i'd never rooted my d1, I wouldn't now be debating between d3 or bionic or sg2.

Carriers are obviously anti-rooting as it enables tethering. Carriers hate tethering because it is another step towards the commoditization of mobile internet.

I still don't understand why I need to be charged $20 extra a month if I want to use my laptop on the data connection that I pay for already. Data is data, no matter what device "consumes" it.

Yes, data is data, but the pricing model for unlimited data takes into consideration the "average" consumption per month. Because most people that tether will use significantly more than that it puts a much higher strain on the network. Since most people are not tethering, pricing for this set of users would make the cost higher than what the normal person would pay. Hence, a "tethering" fee.

Now, once tiered pricing comes out, I am in complete agreement with you and it should have no bearing whatsoever as to what device is consuming the data. However, looking at AT&T's tiered pricing, it appears the carriers are going to ride the "tethering is different" horse for as long as they possibly can.

mark my words: if i still have my D1 at this time next year, i'm just gonna say screw it, and reactivate my StarTac! (yes, i still have it... :))

You may be activating that Star Tac. Xda.cn posted a revieww of the milestone 3 aka Droid 3 and blasted it. Besides the ridiculous amount of RAM somebody FINALLY picked up on the pentiles ugliness. If the Bionic is 4.5" I feel sorry for those that buy it. Is Motorola even aware of what the competition is bringing to the table?

Are they this out of touch? I feel like shaking Sanjay and slapping him around. Wake up!!!!!!!

Inexcusable.

I've decided...if the Galaxy S II has LTE, I will be buying it the second it's available. If not...then I don't know...I guess I'll get the Bionic. I feel like a lot of the wind has been taken out of it's sails. Pentile screen, 4.5inches, webtop thing, locked bootloader...

The only good thing Sanjay did was bring the OG Droid to Verizon and focus on Android. After that, it's all been downhill.

You really call that a review??? Honestly??? What did they say? They don't like Moto's Pentile Screen, that is a matter of personal preference. Just pick up a DX2 and decide if you like it or not. The only other thing that was a negative they said was that it:
will carry a meager 512MB of RAM. A dual-core TI OMAP 4430 processor helps to make up for it a bit, but all that processing power won?t mean much if there isn?t enough RAM to handle it. Still, benchmarks report some pretty stellar performance.
Motorola Droid 3 Gives Up its Secrets in In-Depth Hands-On Review

So lets recap:
They don't like the Pentile Screen
They arent sure if there is Enough Ram even though it has steller benchmarks.

That is blasting the phone? They didn't comment on anything else, was the phone fast? Smooth? Good Camera? Like or Dislike new Blur..

Was a pretty lousy "review" if you can call it that.

Agree. Droid made me a HUGE Motorola fan. They had a chance to really do something and they have done nothing but make idiotic decisions. One after another.

It's a shame..
