I know that's a bit dramatic, but that's exactly what's happened to my N20U.
Put it on to charge, disconnected and bam! No reaction from the screen at all and all black.
I've tried all the recommendations like vol down and pwr, but no dice.
It is on, because I hear the notifications, so it's not completely dead.
The phone is less than two months and has never been dropped, blah blah.
Pretty annoyed actually and I'm wondering if anyone else has suffered this and if so, what did they do?
Thanks.

Mine been good, you try contact Samsung?

So won't go into recovery or download mode?

Sounds like the screen failed. You've already tried rebooting, or booting into Safe Mode?

Since it's so new, contact the place you bought it from to see if they can replace it; otherwise, contact Samsung for warranty replacement.

I left it overnight and this morning did volume down and power and it came back to life.
Btw, bought directly from Samsung.

I had the same thing happen to one of my older android devices but not on any of the newer devices. I believe it less the note 4 it happened to.

I can't find any info as to what exactly causes this, apart from someone mentioning it was 'maybe' a firmware issue, so I just hope that it doesn't happen again.

It's possible a firmware glitch, next time if it happens power off the phone then hold the volume button same time see if it goes in download mode.

Whew, glad it's working again! It might have been an app glitch as well.

Tonight I was surfing Instagram, phone at ~50% charge a d as I was scrolling screen went black. I could feel it being responsive because when I plugged it in it would vibrate and when I tried a screenshot it would vibrate.

However, the hard reset didn't work until like the 10th time in 30min.

Now seems good. Not even sure how to address this with Samsung or my carrier.

P. S. I just checked and the screenshots I took while it was black screen actually took screen shots of the lock screen even though I couldn't see it..... Sooooooo bizarre!

I've yet to find any written cause of this issue, but many are suggesting a firmware glitch, but without any real evidence to back up that theory. Anyway, for what it's worth, I cleared the cache partition by booting into recovery mode, so clearly the phone is working as it should do.
Mysterious, yet I'm relieved that I don't own a brick.

So last week my Note 20 Ultra (carrier model From Rogers here in Canada) was updated to Oct security patch and other updates. This morning I wake up and Nov Security update had downloaded...... I never get the updates this quickly so I assume someone realized there was a glitch perhaps.

2am Thanksgiving morning my Note 20 ultra screen went BLACK! Tried the volume down and power button multiple times and nothing worked. Tmobile tech suggested letting the battery go down to 0% and doing the soft reset. Well that was Early Thursday morning 2am and its now Saturday 9pm and that darn phone has still not lost battery power!! still try to get phone to soft reset and it does not turn off or on. It vibrates. Anyone know how to drain the battery or make the screen come alive? HELP! LOL

Hi, try holding the power button until you feel a vibration then try boot up again

How long did you hold Power and Vol Down for? Try doing it for 30 seconds straight (and time it).

I left mine face-up, not charging overnight and the following morning tried the power/volume down combo for about 20 seconds and it rebooted, much to my relief.
I think you may just have to keep trying @TV417 since I've yet to find a logical explanation as to why this happens.

Thank you and @B.Diddy for responding to my dilemma. I have a new phone coming in a few days. I really needed it for tomorrow. Oh well...🤷🏾*♀️. Seems that the N20+ is a dud. 🙁

My screen decided to not come back on after sitting in my car wireless charger. Did my research on youtube and here and did all the soft reset with no luck. I left it untouched for 24 hours and try the soft reset and it came back on. After about 2-3 hours of usage the screen died out again. Very frustrating.

Welcome to Android Central! Do you also have a Note20? Have you also tried it in Safe Mode? If it persists in Safe Mode, and if the phone is still under warranty, then I would contact Samsung about it.
