Greetings Epic Fans,

Just wanted to pop my head in here and give everyone notice that we have released v4.1.1 of Bonsai for the Epic 4G.

After several weeks of testing, I am confident we are making the best Bonsai ROM available so far. Battery life is better than ever given some of the Gingerbread kernel backports we have made and Interactive response is smooth as butter.

I look forward to answering any questions and reading your thoughts.

Just to update Randy's post for any of our newer members, Bonsai for Android | is the location you will find the Bonsai ROM located at.

Membership is free, its only used to maintain an accurate download count of their ROMs and nothing more. Donatations are excepted but not mandatory, but donations are rewarded with access to new Bonsai beta materials not available to the general public ;)

Very nice ROM indeed - from the custom boot image and recovery to the fixed silent ringer option. Smooth, fast and great battery life. Definitely a winner.

The 3G indicator in the status bar has been fixed to show 1x now also.

Looks good and I like the Zeam launcher, something not many have given a chance.

Yes, the Bonsai team wanted to replace the stock launcher with something lightweight with more/better features, but not something that would overwhelm or intimidate newer users. Zeam is perfect for this. It seems to be winning the hearts of a few Bonsai team members also.

The new recovery is very cool but all of my previous back up have errors when trying to restore. Is this because all the backups i've done were in clockwork? Will I have to create new backups of my favorite ROMs or is there a fix.?

From what I understand, the old CWM had MD5 issues (as well as many other issues). Also, the Bonsai version backs up and restores partitions that the old one didn't.

I would love to try this new rom. However, I love watching netflix on my phone. I do not think I will be able to use netflix on this new Bonsai Rom. I am going to stay for a while with the EE03 Gingerbread leak. I just love it. Hopefully, we will see more Gingerbread goodness soon.

I am currently using Bonsai v4.1.1.b38 which I believe is a beta version. My question is do I need to install the publicly released version and if so do I just install on top of the beta version. I also changed my modem to EE03 if that makes a difference.

Paul, I've been running ACE 1.7 w/EXT4, EB13 support for some time now. I'm itchin' to try Bonsai 4.1.1 now it's been updated. To go to Bonsai from ACE, just install from SD card from the CWM that was installed from ACE 1.7, wipe everything 3X's & that's it, pretty much?

You can install the public release on top of your current ROM (which is two versions old), but you must have the EC05 modem.

Bonsai auto backups up and restores your data, so just flash it. If you have problems (which you probably won't), then go ahead and wipe/flash again.

I did notice those issues using cmw. When I restored my ROMs I had to re flash the zip to correct missing items. I really like the custom recovery build for my epic.

hi all, on which epic rom is this based on? thanks

This is about the new Bonsai v4.1.1 rom . Did you mean which modem? I understand is based on EC05
Please go to the second post. Paul has a link that can help you with your questions.

Yes this recovery has a few things working that are not currently in the current version of CWM.

First of all I have to say I am LOVING the new Bonzai! Easily one of the most solid ROMs I’ve ever flashed on my Epic. Many thanks to Randy and the entire Bonzai crew for their outstanding work. Now, on to my issue.. I’m having trouble with GPS. It gets a lock but the accuracy seems to fluctuate. When using Navigation the blue circle is constantly changing size and doesn’t maintain a solid lock. I flashed the EC05 modem before flashing this ROM. Any help would be much appreciated.

GPS has always been an issue stock/custom. Not to mention Google Maps/Nav responds differently than Sprint Navigator/Telenav. If your getting a reasonable lock and accuracy I would really be happy with that, many people still to this day can't get a good lock at all due to GPS issues that have plagued this phone from launch. Only real solution that does seem to work is Odin back to complete stock EC05 get a GPS lock, then root/install a custom ROM and check your GPS again.

Otherwise there is GPS Status from the Market you can use to clear out the GPS cache and see if that helps.
