Bought the LapDock!

Switched to bionic from thunderbolt and very very satisfied with its capabilities. Extended battery has been amazing. I am not used to having a phone disconnected from a power source!

I purchased the laptop dock and was able to get my 25% discount on it (did not automatically ring up with discount but told them that my account always had accessories for 25% off)...she had a manager override it.

What a great product! I hooked up a USB mouse and it works like a charm. The speeds are great and loving the web browser...this will be great when I travel for work. I was able to take phone calls (speaker) while reviewing email on the nice large screen. Videos work great whether from netflix or those embedded on a website. I have used this product for several days now and I am really liking it so I thought I would share!

I have yet to see the inductive charging cover, but i find it VERY unlikely its as big as the extended battery cover. I am using the extended battery cover on my Bionic in the lapdock and it fits perfectly.

The inductive cover just makes the back of the phone flat. So it does not stick out any further then where the camera lens is located. Make sense?

Then it'll definately fit. The extended battery cover sticks up MORE, below the camera and it fits.

I am doing some battery tests while using the lapdock today. I started with my Bionic at 100% charged as well as the Lapdock. Both batteries are full. I wanted to see how long the battery would last while watching Netflix full screen on the lapdock while using bluetooth headphones for audio. I ran into something interesting. I fired up a movie I loved when I was younger, 'Demolition Man', and just set it aside while i'm watching TV. I kept looking over every few minutes to make sure it was still playing and at the 30 minute mark, it went into sort of a 'screensaver'. I guess I need to see where to disable that while playing Netflix. I hit play again and am letting it go another 30 minutes to see if it happens again for sure, just thought it was odd. FYI, After 35 minutes the 5 LED lights on the front of the lapdock still all light up when I press the battery meter button. The phone will remain 100% charged throughout the duration, so i'm curious how long the lapdock will run since its the display and its also keeping my Bionic charged to 100%.

EDIT: Yep, 30 minutes later, screensaver. Grrrrrrr. Not sure if its the lapdock (Webtop) doing this or if its something that would happen on the phone itself without Webtop/Lapdock, but I wont't know for sure until I'm done doing my battery tests and can try it while removed from the Lapdock.

The screensaver is a setting for the lapdock. I think it can be extended to 1 hour, but Im not sure if you can disable it.

Im really liking the laptop. With 4G LTE this this flies! Battery is also rated at 8 hours of usage, and it's great how it charges the phone while it's in the dock.

I'm at 4 hours and 10 minutes of streaming Netflix using WiFi at my house, i think the 2nd LED just went out a bit ago, there is one LED light left. No way i'm getting 8 hours outa it, but i bet thats because the phone is using more power streaming video and using all that bandwidth via WiFi... and since the lapdock has to keep it charged, the lapdock battery suffers.

EDIT: Wanted to add, the lapdock is at full brightness and has been for the duration. When i'm done testing i'll look at the setting for screensaver. Where is that, if you know?

I wasn't sold on the lapdock, but I used it and fell in love. So thin and portable. The TV dock with peripherals is also great. I am only getting one for now, decidions decisions. Gawd I love this LTE beastie...

After the 'stuttering' on my TV when using just good 'ol HDMI Mirroring while playing my NES and SNES games, I went ahead and also ordered the Webtop adapter. At $23 including free 2-day delivery with my 25% discount, i figured why not. I'll have it Monday. Don't get me wrong, playing those games on the lapdock is pretty awesome too haha, but I wanted to play on the TV :)

Ok, final verdict on battery life:

Bionic: Full Charge on Extended Battery (extended or not, this shouldn't matter as long as its fully charged when starting), Data service is WiFi via my home router, 4G radio off, set to 3g only mode.
Lapdock: Full charge overnight, Full Brightness on display
Audio: Connected via Bluetooth to the bionic using my Motorola S305 Headset. The headphones were on/connected through the duration of the test.

Prior to running netflix, whether it matters or not, it was a fresh boot of the phone and I then killed all running apps via Advanced Task Killer moments before firing up netflix on the lapdock.

Netflix was streaming constantly using the WiFi connection on the phone for 4 hours and 47 minutes before the lapdock's display shut off. When I press the battery indicator button on the lapdock, the first LED just blinks at me. Its dead. The Bionic's battery is 100% charged at this point, so if I wanted, I could finish watching my movie using the phone :)

i 'assume' that WiFi is more battery friendly than 4G, so i'd say that you're probably looking at 'maybe' 4 hours of streaming via 4G on the battery, but thats just merely a guess. Results would probably have been better had I not used the Bluetooth headphones for the duration.

The webtop adapter looks cool. I think I am going to fork the hundred for the TV dock. It will turn the Main TV into a fargon firefox browser! I want some Hulu. I was wrong earlier about slamming webtop, and now that Google owns Mobility's patents, I see it flourishing amongst "us" power users. The SG2 just lacked a little compared to the bionic potentials. This one is going to be fun for a good while! I am still happy with stock. The ppi is better than the SG2, and it shows with "natural" images. cartoons do look better on a Sammy though. when zoomed out, the Bionic shows readable text before all the rest. In my book, that is win.

So this is my first post on my Laptop dock (I acquired today at the local Verizon store). I won't hash through the details have other covered, but a few points I'd like to mention (and some questions). Some disclaimers: I owned a Motorola XOOM (WiFi Only) that I used to tether via BT with my phone. I sold the XOOM for $375, which buy ustified buying this at full price (-25% accessory discount that I got manager to apply since I didn't buy it with the phone and didn't want the $50 data...that took some work btw)

Overall - this is much better than having a tablet and a phone as I don't have to clear Tweeetdeck, GTalk, and other apps when both were on. LOVE THAT. The fact that this is really an extension of the phone, I am in love. I haven't watched Netflix, but do like that I can watch HBOGO now...(come on folks, get the app approved for the Bionic). Now onto the cons:

I keep having typing issues with the keyboard...primarily the Cut/Paste/Input method pops up....very annoying. I'm sure I just need to get used to the keyboard. But I also have some issues with the mouse not working smoothly. Again, I hope these are just learning curve issues.

i also have gotten several "LOW MEMORY" pop ups...only using Firefox on webtop. That is slightly annoying. If someone has a solution, that would help. I'm running Tweetdeck, GTalk, and the usual on my Bionic...it's at 71% memory use..hope that this is just something I need to reboot the phone (which I haven't done in over 4 days since I installed the extended battery)

I also would like to know how to install other webtop apps (as shown on the Motorola webtop apps page). The page shows Dropbox, Pandora, etc...but when you go to install these apps, which Linux version do you install? Is this even possible or is it simply installing to the phone?

Lastly...I wish that Google would have forced Chrome on this vs Firefox. I don't use Firefox on my desktops, and would like Chrome bookmark sync, etc. Also wish that I could get some "DocsToGo" love native on the webtop OS.

But as a frequent traveler (road warrior), I can definitely see myself traveling with just this and leaving the 14.1" Dell laptop at home.

Is Verizon sold out of the Lapdocks or something? I've been looking at the prices of the Lapdock on Ebay and they are selling for almost $400. What exactly is going on?

Definately not sold out. I went and asked a VZW rep for the webtop adapter on Friday at the store around 72nd and Hwy 370 in Omaha/Papillion Nebraska and the guy misunderstoood... and came back out with a Lapdock instead. I corrected him. I really doubt they're sold out, they're too expensive for 'everyone' to just go dropping that kind of cash on it. I assume the people on Ebay have no idea what they're worth.

has anyone tried this from start to finish?
does it work? I do not want to spend $175 and have it not work.

If you're worried about it, I could always do it for you. It'll only cost you 150 dollars labor Plus shipping And I guarantee it will look just like the 1 from the bionic when done ;-)
