I considered the lapdock, but I already have a 4G Xoom, so there really is no need for a larger screen. I just wish there was a way to synch the Bionic and the Xoom so that they can share files.
ok so I got the atrix lapdock and was supprised how easy it was to get apart. at first look it seemed I could just turn each plug 180 degrees. then I noticed that the cut outs in the case were curved just like the plugs. I had to get an exacto knife and ever so carefully shave them so that they fit. but then I noticed that they were lined up on the wrong side. the flat parts of the plugs lined up. if you look at your phone the curved sides need to line up. so I shaved a littel more on the HDMI plug and even rebend the little metel hold down in side the dock. this worked great. but not perfect. so I used some double sided tape that had a littel foam in the middle and used it to space up the HDMI port so that it lined up perfectly. now it sits and docks just like it should. no wiggling or forcing at all. I have to leave the spacer out. I am assuming the spacer that comes with the atrix dock is so that you can use the lapdock with some cases. I left that off and the phone works great. I have noticed that the sound coming out of the phone sounds better than the dock. and the phone sitts a little crooked. this is because the phone is not centered on the dock. unless someone wants to extend the cables and recut holes in the dock. this is just the way it is going to be.
sanding or grinding a littel more on the dock on the right side would allow the phone to sit level and probably dock better. but then there is no going back. not sure how I feel about this mod. it deffently works but like any mod it is not as clean as the "real" product.
in the end if you want a clean setup with no issues then buy the bionic dock.
I have also noticed that is runs way yes way slower on the dock. even surfing, playing games, etc. now I am not sure if it is because I am running the atrix dock. or because that is the the way it is going to be. it is so bad sometimes I just undock it and do what I want to do.

Tried 4 or 5 RDP apps on the lapdock last night. Best on the lapdock was Remote RDP. Worked very well except that several important keys were "mapped" wrong or didn't work properly. For example, the right shift key performed the tab function. Also, the ctrl and fn keys did not work. So close, but the developer said that these keys are only supported on Android 3.1 and up. The only way the lapdock makes sense for me is with a fully functional remote desktop app. Anyone else having success with this?
Got a brand new Atrix lapdock as well for a lot less.
Just like earlier stated, it is very easy to modify to work with the Bionic.
I was able to just flip/turn around the micro USB plug and that worked fine without any trimming of the plastic. The micro HDMI I had to trim just a little bit for it to fit through. I just used a small file.
Of course you need to remove the adapter plate for a little extra room just as stated.
Now I have the extended battery & cover so the fit is very tight and actually bends it out a little. You have to wiggle the phone into the ports carefully but it will go in. It doesn't slide super easy and the phone does sit a little crooked but I saved over $120 bucks so it was well worth it to me.

I bought the lapdock...the store sold it to me for $225 after a little haggling (I get a 25% accessory discount because of my employer, and I strong armed them into giving it to me on the lapdock because they told me about 50 times it was $199, but changed their tune at the register).
It is quite possible that is the best $225 that i've ever spent. I have a 4G XOOM with a few docks and a case that props it up, as well as the Motorola bluetooth keyboard. All that is now for sale, because it's never going to get used.
This uses my phones data plan with no extra charge, it charges my phone while being used, it is just too cool. I love being able to multi task with the web browser open on the lapdock, and the mobile view to the side (like in the pic above). Browsing the web with a full desktop browser and multiple tabs, while installing contacts and sending messages from my phone.
The only bad thing about this is that from now on I will never be able to own a phone that doesn't do this. It's be 36 hours and I'm already addicted.
I'm typing this on the lapdock now, while talking on the phone, and the phone is charging. Too cool.

I felt the Webtop experience was too slow. The Linux version of Chrome in the lapdock had some issues with sites I frequent.
My biggest issue is taking calls when docked. If I didn't have a headset or Bluetooth connected when I undocked the phone to take the call it would freeze for a few seconds and I would miss the call most of the time.
I also was told $199 till I got to the register, then it was $299 because I wasn't going to change to the $50/mo 2GB plan (I currently pay $30/mo for unlimited).
I would love an update in a month our so for your feedback.

Really when I got a call while on my LapDock I can't say I've ever just yanked it out to take the call. Normally I would answer on speakerphone, then close my LapDock and THEN undock the phone and switch off the speakerphone. Part of me is just a bit old fashioned, but it just doesn't seem right to simply just rip the phone out w/out at least first closing the LapDock.
IMHO the little "deal" that VZW has w/the LapDock is BS IMHO. Limited Data plan?!? When you guys pry it out of my cold/dead hands or make your limited data plans at an attractive price (hint: it's not at this moment!).
Not sure if this is related with your issue...
Issue: Answering incoming calls while in the Lapdock:
A user may not be able to answer an incoming call while the XT875 is in the Lapdock.
Action: This issue can be reduced if the call is answered during the first ring cycle.
Resolution: A fix for this issue is under review and will be included in the second post launch maintenance release software for this device. The tentative release date is under review.
As requested, here are some more pics of the Atrix dock and how my Bionic sits in it and a close up shot of the turned around plugs. After using it over the past couple days, I noticed the Bionic with the extended battery sits just fine into the dock and the phone slides in just fine so don't mind my earlier post. I think it just needed to be broken in or something. It's really no bother at all now. It's better to be on the tight side anyhow, as you don't want the phone to easily fall out.
Again I just filed the micro HDMI slot only, the micro USB you can just turn it around and stuff it back in.
Also I think I mentioned, the lapdock/browser is not very fast, about the same speed as my gf's netbook but it works fine for just what I am using it for, especially considering the price I paid for an Atrix dock. It is super light and acts as an extended battery when I want to browse the internet using a laptop screen instead of the phone display.

I just switched from my droid X to Bionic and picked up the lapdock, standard dock & extended battery.
The rep said he didn't have the battery at the store but if i let him bundle it all and FedEx it to me he could get me the $100 rebate on the lapdock. I opend it up yesterday and No rebate.
I Love my Droid X and was hesitant about going to the Bionic, byt i made the leap of faith because of the lapdock. I've only got to try thr lapdoak out for a little bit. So far it's ok. I'm sure there is more it can do than what I've encountered so far. I did keep having an avalible memory issue when I was trying it out. This does concern me a bit. I also just got back my xoom from the 4gLTE upgrade. I was goign to drop the data on it i fthe lapdock works out the way i hope. I have a little less than a couple weeks to figure out if it's worth it. If not, I will stick to my xoom and take the lapdock back.
I also read the other day that suposably there is another version of the lapdock coming out called the lapdock 500??? anyone heard or know about it???

I say at this point, do not get the current bionic lapdock. There are ways to allow the bionic to connect to a TV and use webtop without it. But if you must get a lapdock, wait for the other lapdocks to come out. I think there are two versions: lapdock 100 and lapdock 500 pro.
I've had my Bionic from day 1, but didn't opt for the Lapdock at the time.
I'm rethinking that and would love to hear more information on the two "new" docks... the 100 and 500. Is there any info out there what are the differences, etc?
