Excellent perspective. I really hope we still continue to have competition in the market of cellphones so Samsung and Apple aren’t the only two options we have for quality. As much as I didn’t like LG, it’s a shame that they are supposedly getting out of the smartphone industry. That’s what I’ve heard. I don’t have any news stories to support it. But they clearly aren’t close to competing toe to toe with Samsung and Apple as far as units sold. They did have a solid performer in the V series phones. They were also the last phone to have a headphone jack which paired with their dac, made for a solid high quality music device.

you’re right, at the end of the day, competition will always be a good thing for consumers Like us. It’s supposed to drive prices down. And make the product that companies offer to consumers better. Usually ha ha Ha

I agree like to see more competition out there .

I'd be more than extremely surprised if you paid this price without a trade in and/or carrier service credit. The going price on amazon is $999. You are not really making a case against the P5 when you compare it to another phone that is at least 40% more expensive.
There's no way that was the actual price of the phone without trading something in or some kind of credit. No way in hell.

I love my Samsung S10+ and I love my Pixel 4a 5G. They both have their benefits and their drawbacks. But I enjoy using them both. The camera on the pixel is hands down better than my S10+ and I have found myself using it almost exclusively for photos and video since I got it. I had forgotten how much I loved the photos on my 2xl. I like some of the photo modes on my S10+ like Single take. So I use it for those. But portrait shots are just so much better on the Pixel.

I like the battery life on my Pixel and the speed of it compared to my Samsung. I have an exynos version and it really isn't that good at times. The battery life drains away like a faucet and I have to charge it 2 to 3 times a day now. I need to get a new battery for it in the summer.

In the end the S10+ took me away from Pixel for a year but I just couldn't resist the Pixel for £399 last month and I don't regret it for a moment.

I love Dex on my S10+ and use it often. The screen is superb and the speakers sound great.

There are lots to like about both brands.

Yeah it was a trade in offer. Way too good to pass up.
Shame Google never had any good trade in deals.

The case against the Pixel 5 is pretty easy really. Overpriced and underperforms. This is from someone who had a Pixel 5 for a couple of weeks and returned it in the refund period. Was surprised and how much of a downgrade it was to previous Pixel phones. The Pixel 4a and the 4a 5G make sense as they're cheaper phones, but the Pixel 5 is twice the price of the Pixel 4a and no way is it twice the value.

That and the previous Pixel phones seem to be the reason why brand loyalty is fading. If the Pixel 5 didn't sell well, then maybe Google should consider ditching the main 'flagship' Pixel line and just focus their efforts on the 'a' line. Effectively resurrecting the Nexus line.

Why do you think you can get such great trade-in deals on Samsung phones? Easy -- because they're more overpriced than Pixels. In fact, it seems to me that huge discounts on Samsung phones are readily available from many vendors the very day they hit the market, and some carriers even give away Samsung phones for free to anyone who signs up for their service contract. Google doesn't need to inflate their prices on Pixel phones, or give absurdly generous trade-in discounts, or hand out freebies, because the product is already fairly priced, and Google doesn't care whether they sell a huge quantity.

Besides, why would you care about the trade-in discount on a Pixel phone? You've done nothing but trash Pixel phones here for at least the past four years. We get it already: You value specs and hardware and flashy features above all, so you dislike Google and its products. What you don't seem to get is that many of us value user experience more, and find Pixel phones to be the best at delivering what we want for the price. So we don't care that you're not impressed.

I cannot and would not profess to speak for others who participate here, but it appears to me that either you are a paid shill for some company that wants to undermine Pixel phone sales, or you have an unhealthy obsession with coming here again and again in a pointless crusade to make people think that your incessantly negative opinions about Pixel phones are facts, despite the overwhelmingly positive reviews of experts and experiences of actual users. I believe the fact that you resorted to a half-truth in disputing the actual price of the Samsung phone you claim to be buying only further erodes whatever frail remnant of credibility you have here.

At this point, it seems to me that your repetitive rants against Pixel phones in this forum have gone from merely annoying to pitiful. How could any reasonable person find some kind of pleasure or satisfaction wasting their time in a persistent but clearly futile effort to make people they don't know feel badly about their own personal preferences? If brand loyalty to Pixel phones is actually fading, then you should be out celebrating, right? But if you really believe your postings here are helping to drive such a trend, I think you're giving yourself undeserved credit.

Agreed! Excellent points. Well said (written).

Well, you were being a bit shady with the truth as you implied you got an S21 straight up for a lower price than a P5. The truth is that the S21 is a $1,000+ phone, so it should be worlds better than a P5. It has state of the art specs, but sometimes the sum of the whole is just as good, or better, than the sum of the parts. That is what most everyone here is saying. Also, I have better things to do than troll in forums for products I hate. So I'm going to check out of this thread as we aren't going to change each others' mind.

Samsung does offer some incredible sales promotions and trade in deals, which means to me that their products are way overpriced out of the gate. I am a fan of their smartwatches and have no outright hate for their phones. They're just not for me.
